SF4AE and MVC3 will BOTH be double elimination, 3s will be single.

$5 cover, $5 entry fee for both SSF4AE and MVC3, $1 entry for 3rd Strike

T&G Throwdown
What: In celebration of their Grand Opening weekend, Mid-South Tournaments and Games will be holding the first T&G Throwdown! Think you are the real thing in Street Fighter, Marvel 3, or Tekken? Prove it and come down to the tournament to compete and meet new players! Cash prizes await the victors!

Games: Super Street Fighter 4: AE, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Tekken 6 (tentative). Other games TBA.

When: September 3rd, 2011, from 12:00PM – 8:00PM. Registration and Casuals start at noon.

Where: Mid-South Tournaments and Games, 1731 Dancy Blvd, Horn Lake MS 38637. You can reach them at 662-510-5027.

Registration: Venue fee is $10, plus $10 Entry per game that you intend to compete in. 100% of entry fees go toward tourney winners. Pot split is **70/20/10. **

Rules: Format is Double Elimination, best 2 out of 3 matches. Losers and Winners finals are 3 out of 5. Grand Finals is 3 out of 5.
All games except Tekken 6 will be played on XBOX 360. Tekken 6 will be played on PS3.
BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLER. This is very important, regardless of whether you play on pad or stick, the controller that you use is YOUR responsibility.
Do your button checks before beginning the match, pausing during a game will result in the immediate forfeit of the round unless your opponent does not want the forfeit applied. Note that pausing during an Ultra animation in Street Fighter 4 will also cost you the round unless the Ultra kills the opponent.

Tournament organizers also reserve the right to cancel any tournaments with less than 8 players. In this situation, your entry fee will be refunded to you.

So Catherine is seriously good thus far. Very heavy on the story, but I like the way it’s woven into it. That said, aside from the cutscenes you get as much of it as you want to put in, sort of like talking to people in RPG towns tend to be in the fact that it’s optional, but you often learn a lot about the game world or flesh out characters form doing it. And from what I’ve seen, your reactions to conversations and texts have definitely affected the story so far, even this early in the game. As for the puzzle scenes, they’re hard as shit and I love it. It’s like what would happen if you took Q-Bert and crossed it with a block-pushing game, then threw in a giant demon with a fork who wants to stab you with it. I’m playing on easy and I’ve died many times already. You don’t get that kind of a challenge much these days, except for games like VVVVVV (really, go get the Humble Indie Bundle) and Super Meat Boy. It also has that dangerous habit of making you want to see what is next, and you keep going “okay, I’ll do this and then go to bed”, but then find that two hours have passed.

Something else I appreciate is the way it really makes you think about certain things. It’s not just haphazardly crawling around or reacting to things, you have to approach stages with a serious plan in mind and think two or three moves in advance. It seems daunting at first, but the game has a method of teaching you new techniques through conversations that you’ll see and go “AHA! I wish I would have thought of that!”

So far my biggest gripe is that the marketing misrepresents the game. It’s not a big animated tit-fest like the advertisements seem to make it look, and I feel like that will turn people away from it. Give the demo a try if you like puzzle games. I know it’s only my first day playing it, but so far it feels very refreshing and original.

FFUUUU IT CAN HAPPEN IN MY DREAMS…Sorry I didn’t stop by today. For some reason, whenever I have off, all of the shit seems to happen at once. I’ll be happy enough if I make it to Hastings tomorrow. If that plan ends up falling through, I may hit you up for some drunken MvC3 matches. Just let me know what type of liquor you like.

I ended up switching Deadpool for Taskmaster as my anchor, and the change is amazing. I’ve noticed that Taskie has a ton of options for keep-away and “OH SH–!” situations. Also, dat air juggle. I’ve been trying to figure out a good replacement for Trish, but I like the block pressure and zoning with her. My buddy was pissed earlier because we played a ton of matches with his new MvC3 PDP fightpad. I won every fight. He says I’m the best hes played, but I think I still suck horribly. I love the clicking of that fightpad.

When I first heard about the game, it was labeled as an “erotic horror puzzle game.” Needless to say, I was confused and interested at the same time. I’ve been hearing that its alright.
