Who doesn’t know that. Ex Seismo can be punished. What I’m saying is that he rarely blocked on wake up instead choosing options that were generally not safe if someone begins to notice. He never won a set on Fuudo because Latif relied on EX Seismo, backdashes and FA + backdash. My second point was that Dago opted to just mash reversals in the last few rounds with Latif. All I’m asking is why are people not blocking lately.
The SF4 series creates a lot of bad habits like mashing throws and relying on back dashes as a safe option. I don’t think many people who play the SF4 series regularly will like 3S.
Apparently you didn’t because I still don’t think you understand what I’m saying… Yes, he did make 2 really good reads (one with the ultra in the corner)… But the invincibility frames on ex seismo when done at the right time on wakeup can get you out of a hella shitty situational mixup… Yes, EX Seismo was punished once or twice, but it’s still a decent option IMO… Also, I really think Daigo started to just crack at one point, or maybe he just thought “he won’t bait it a 3rd time”… Who knows…
I think what got Fuudo the win was him adapting really well to the burn kicks if anything… I noticed real quick that he started to focus the burn kicks, backdash and then punish with rekkas and he did it like 5 times in a row it…
Well,
Comparing 3’s to SF4 series is kinda crazy if you ask me!
But,
I dont think what you are explaining is why Latiff lost… If anything, Latif Neutral Jumped like 80 times in those matches and Fuudo punished almost every time! Yes, a few times he did get punished for backdashing but not blocking is not why Latiff lost. IMO, it was the neutral jumping!
Not blocking on wakeup… I saw Daigo and Poongko do that way more than Latiff!
I never said it wasn’t a decent option. A lot of characters have moves that offer some sort of invincibility. If a move that was invincible or just took a hit was always the option to go to, Fuerte would be unbeatable. It’s a good move, but it’s being used so frequently that Fuudo just waited. These sorts of adjustments happen all the time when you fight an opponent from people thinking Bison’s EX Psycho was a free get away long ago to OS choices for back dashes. If you do something over and over, your opponent will likely notice. I was just talking out loud about him deciding not to block, not making a serious stance on life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness
When I say mashing, I mean tapping throws along with an opponent’s block string - I don’t know what anything is called. And people do mash backdash when they wake up in SF4. People who say they don’t if they use backdash on wake up are lying because I’ve heard you all do it
I could go on and on about what Latif did or didnt do to win, but to make it short he missed some opportunities to whiff punish, he didnt use some less often used moves that would have actually worked in some of the situations, and he went for a few of the same mixups that most vipers go for and really good players know to look out for.
My heart sank when he fought Fuudo the first time and got hit with that U2. He was doing so well to try and avoid it then the one time he slips up, Fuudo was ready lol. As soon as I saw the flash for the burn kick I started screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I think it totally mindfucked him in the finals too. He did bait it out once, but there were also a few rounds where he established a great offense, got a big life lead, and then abandoned his mix-ups, possibly for fear of getting U2’d.
Well sometimes backdashing is a good idea, because sometimes it is just obviously going to work, but it can be option-selected in 90% of situations. If something is a strong tactic in a game, it isn’t dumb or bad to do in that game, just because it isn’t in other games, and unless you just terrible you won’t do everything the same in every game. I’m saying you can’t just do shit and get away with it, including tapping throw along with block strings. I mean, yeah… People will definitely try to play 3s just like 4 for the first week or whatever but they will quickly either realize it is nothing like it and adapt, or decide they don’t want to play it, likely because of its unbalanced-ness.
