slp has a faster recovery compared to cr lk I think. But, I think they do it because it is a safe TK setup. I think that either mk or lk tk is completely safe in a slp > crlk > tk.
How do you guys feel about the sagat vs honda matchup. 6-4 or 5.5-4.5 sagats favor?

I actually think Honda has the advantage up close. I distinctly member Henry Cen saying that Gat isn’t that bad for him. He pretty much says fuck it, I’m going to HB over your low TS and get in eventually. But if your FB is stellar, then he can never get in.
I just attack Honda.
He can’t stop you at all really other then a risky sumo splash. EX Headbutt as well, but if you draw that out then hey less meter for him. If he has Ultra 2 then you have to be a little more weary, but a Honda will pretty much never use U2 vs a Sagat.
And as far as headbutt is concerned, it’s actually not that easy to headbutt through a low TS. I usually go for some chip then I just kinda hang out and don’t do much if I wanna zone. Sooner or later he has to try and get in and that’s when you mess him up with the usually AA TU’s, st.mk, spaced tks, etc.
Does Akuma have an unblockable against Sagat in the corner? Some guy kept demon flip kicking me in the corner on wakeup and no matter which way I blocked I kept getting hit. Dashing forward avoided the hit, but I would get sweeped after that. I’m not sure if I was doing something wrong or if it was truly unblockable.
Maybe you just attack Honda cause every damn time its Honda attacking me (and that’s wrong in all levels).
The only characters I ever have problems is oddballs that are rarely/never played (Dhalsim, rufus, makoto?) and Adon.
Is it me or his jaguar kick sometimes just rape Sagat? I don’t know if a punish exist and I find s.mp seems to beat out juaguar kick as a specific timing :\
I dont use u2 against any shoto tbh, they should be doing most of the guessing not you. I have heard that u2 is useful agianst Akuma but good Akumas anticipate this plus if your that worried about air ex fireball, late ex tu catches them easily and also combos to u1. St lk is still awesome against shotos beats most of their low forwards, and if they whiff low forward you can towards short cr jab to whatever just have to work on it mayne.
any high level shoto player is just gonna walk you to the corner try to keep that from happening

Imo with shotos you gotta be on point in reading their jumpins. Try to anti air everything. Dont let them whiff normals in your face either try to tag them with a st lk or fireball whiff punish.
I don’t get what I’m supposed to do against Ryu…
- He can keep up with Sagat’s fireball game
- He has a much better jump which he can easily jump over Sagat’s fireballs with, let alone tatsu
- His jump hk either trades or beats Sagat’s st.hk every time
- His footsies seem to be MUCH better than Sagat’s
- Tiger knee on block get’s punished with everything and it’s startup is slow so any cr.mk with go under or other pokes will beat it
- From a long distance it’s not even worth using Sagat’s U2 on reaction to Ryu’s fireball because Ryu can seem to block in time
I’ve read here that you have to zone have to zone have to zone, but you can’t possibly keep a Ryu forever. Maybe I’ll post some vids and people can tell me what I’m doing wrong.
bait and punish, once you see your tiger shot has reached him qcb+jab or wait and punish with ts when he jumps or n jumps. the point is to keep him in your kara tu range. also st short beats cr mk. if he whiffs cr forward or cr roundhouse you can punish with towards short into cr jab into whatever. Matchup is 5-5 so anyone can win. no one keeps up with sagats fireball game period and sooner or later they will jump or make a move to gain space use that to your advantage

Yeah, I know Sagat has a great zoning game, but I felt like at mid range, I just had to shut down and couldn’t pressure because it would just lead to a jump over my fireball, a focus through it or a tatsu through it.
Obviously my zoning game isn’t up to scratch and I still don’t know when to change the strength of my tiger shots. All I do is throw out hp/hk tiger shots and just mix between the two. I don’t know when I should be doing mp/lp TS or mk/lk TS as they all have the same frame data, just the hp/hk ones travel faster.
You do know if you throw out a normal like sk lk and he reacts with jump you can still dp him? Also dont let that mofo whiff normals in your face. try to whiff punish with st lk cr fp or ts. You may get blown up for awhile because you arent good at it but it will pay off
Yeah I know you whiff a normal (usually st.lp) to bait a jump in. Anyone else find the range of Sagat’s st.lk kinda deceptive? The leg goes out longer than the hitbox and it feels shorter than it looks.
But yeah, I should definitely use st.lk a lot more.
buffer that fool into ts also so either you can hit confirm if you have meter or push back. Also you dont have to just stand there with sagat move back and forth a bit so he doesnt have a solid range on you for his normals. Sagat is slow but it still works if your spacing is right.
nah I meant qcb and jab it makes it look like your doing the motion for tiger shot, but jab comes out perfect for baiting jump in. Think like moving back and down like your doing the motion but still ending up in block so your not in danger of getting tagged by ultras/ supers that go throw fireballs and or full screen ones. Bonchan and RF do it all the time agianst people who are prone to jump in. Play close attention to the Honda match.
