Elbow? You need to specific. You talking about his rush shoulder attack?
yeah oops i meant shoulder sorry
lp version is -3. Can’t really punish on block since it gives decent pushback unless you have super. All other versions are punishable with TU on block.
st mk beats it I believe. also gives you counter hit
You have to anticipate it and have the right spacing to combo after the counter hit, but it is super easy to combo after if you get it right. If I have a Yun that really likes that move, I usually let it go unpunished the whole game until I have ultra and hit it on reaction.
Man, I’ve been eyeballing this thread for like two years now and I’ve finally decided I just want to get it off my chest*: I love the title so, so much.

hey I is there or can you guys update the 1st page with the new charator matchups this thread has helped me improve my game tremendously over the last week.
much appreciated.
Hey, everyone. I’m a Yang player and I need help with the Sagat matchup. This doesn’t seem like a matchup that I should have problem with character wise, It’s more of a problem I have as a player in general especially with the Sagats that are really smart about when they throw fireballs. So if anyone feels like helping me out, I play on PSN (CHIMAsamune). I’m not all that great so I don’t care much about the skill of whomever wants to help me out. I also learn from experimenting, so If you see me spam something a lot, I’m just feeling out how it works.
another noob question. How do I deal with frame traps/throws? I often get into a situation where im stuck in a block string and so im doing crouch tech os but how do i know when to stop? If i keep doing crouch tech os i get frame trapped, my clk misses and i get punished. If i stop crouch tech, my opponent just walks up and throws me. So i’m screwed every time i get into a block string, i don’t know what to do.
This is not something anyone can answer. This is the beauty of the high speed chess match that IS Street Fighter and all fighters in general when mix-up situations come into play.
No one can give you an easy mode answer. Play the game. Feel it out. Become stronger then you are now. If you can’t then this is where you will plateau. Harsh words but I’m keepin it 100 with you.
Don’t think…feel.
So ima bring back up one of the retro matchups up here.
Vs Sim in AE. What’s your pick? Fireball game or rushdown sagat?
I like to play this match rushdown , show sim no respect and just go crazy , although the fireball method is alot more solid , I feel like when we try and outzone sim we give him too many tools and respect , its like were fighting on his terms .If u just focus dash in and start the mix ups he can get stunned/ killed very easily.
rush him sim down, all you need is one knockdown, and make him pay for throwing out limbs few calculated Uppercut will put fear on the Sim player

how do i handle the deejay match up anyone know?
Huh, nobody posted in this for a while. Anyway, still trying to work on basic stuff with my Sagat but some obvious problems that are happening seem to be from match up knowledge issues. So, some Qs…
Dudley - First time I played a truly decent Dudley the other day with Sagat. Got outplayed but one thing was really problematic for me: Dudley’s fw.HP. This move stuffed whatever I tried to throw out…can Sagat press any buttons to counter this? Had a little success with fst.MK, but…yeah. Also, one time, the Dudley player went under a fireball and I was able to punish with fst.HP. Does this mean poorly spaced ducks can be punished with, say, cr.MK xx HK Shot?
Akuma - Obviously a bad match up but I don’t know how to approach it at all. Any help here is nice.
Dee Jay - Quite often I found my TKs being stuffed by Dee Jay and it doesn’t seem I’m allowed to throw Tiger Shots when he has Ultra or a charge with meter? Really unfamiliar with this match up.
Shotos in general - I’m really bad at reacting to fireballs to punish with Ultra 2. Am I using this the wrong way? Should I just be focusing fireballs so I can get the Ultra twice a match? Or do I use it to discourage fireball wars?
Only way to use Ultra 2 in a fireball war I’ve found is to focus through their fireball and hit it from mid range, or land if from an EX juggle. If you manage to successfully land a U2 through a fireball, you’ve just predicted well, but I cut that shit out of my game a long time ago.
Akuma, personally I find at that mid range/close level is best to block and do nothing. Jumping Hp can trade or even beat clean his Air fire ball, this match will get a hell of a lot easier soon, with the standing spam Hk being nerfed and the forward throw nerf.
From memory I think our standing Hk can beat Duds Hp (need back up?!), but it’s timing specific. Also neutral jump mk into combo if they are spamming.
Dee jay is just a bitch all round, treat him like guile, but he’s hard to AA, and don’t be afraid to mash in his block strings, they are not tight, if you have 2 bars hit it. Ultra 1 all the way. You can’t catch deejay with U2. Focus is not a good idea in this match as he will break glass with his Lp kick. Don’t jump on him on knock down either and be wary of his slide with crouch block. I’ve found some success with lk Tiger knee but better Sagats will be able to shed a bit more light on the match.
dudleys hp beats sagats hk you need to make him whiff and punish it. you beat it on startup but thats not wise as he can react punish by shk buffer ex machine gun blow.
the dudley matchup is all about patience and knowing the right time to rush him down when he has no meter his wakeup is horrible clk pressure is good his dp without ex is shit. at medium range you need to be extremely careful of your pokes/footsie game as it can have huge consequences. if the dudley contiunes to buffer shk into ex machine gun a focus attack is the best way to deal with it besides blocking the right timing always lands a counter hit crumple = big damage make sure u cmp if your going to combo as smp doesn’t always allow 2 hits for heavy tiger knee. you need to be super careful with fireballs and i suggest not using ex shots much at all unless u have 3 bars as if you get pressured you need cancel meter it is absolutely crucial.
With akuma I feel you need to stay just outside of his sweep range and us cr mk.buffered into low/ex ts. Don’t get to crazy with it though. If you time it right it stuffs the startup of his sweep. Once he gets in be patient and watch your teching because his frame traps are really good. Now if you get knocked down you really gotta watch which setup he is going for. Some of them are really tricky. Dp is really risky cause he can stuff it with dive kicks and cross up tatsu. Best just to try your hardest to block correctly. If he knocks you down in the corner more then likely he will go for the jump over unblockable. The only way I know to block it is to move your stick to either side but its hit or miss if you will block it our not. Thats just a little bit of my 2 cents on the matchup I have a little more but im at work and Im sure most of you probably know it. If anything I said is incorrect go ahead and put me on blast I don’t mind.
Also when buffering ultra waiting for a fireball. Use this motion. 1,3,1,3,6 then 3k. You won’t bob up and down and you don’t hsve to do it fast. Really good for someone sitting next to you listening to your buttons. I can upload a video later if you guys want
Unfortunately I have come here to vent(lol).
And it’s about Ryu, who isn’t even that good in this game :p. I feel now after playing some really good Ryu’s that Sagat loses that match-up without Vanilla St.lk. 5.5 -4.5
I think the shoto’s in general get into Gats ‘uncomfortable’ zone much easier than much of the caste. When I watch videos of top Sagats playing against Ryus they are often losing and easily pushed into the corner. A Ryu that knows how to safe jump Sagat has huge advantage in my opinion.
