Tiers in each of the Alpha games

If you where to average out positions on the list of the duplicates in the top 15 among themselves and eliminate the outliers. You’d get the tier list to be:

V-Gouki
V-Dhalsim
V-Karin
V-Balrog (JPN)
V-Sakura
V-Ryu

Which I think is fair to say that they all are powerful characters.

Whether or not the list is correct (position: 1st, 2nd, or 3rd or characters: i.e. V-Gief), it establishes a president. This list comprises most of the upper tier characters in the game. All of them are good.

Yeah, like I said in the A3 thread, it looks like it’s a list of players and their rankings vs Characters, not a tier list. The top row has all 28 characters from the arcade version of A3 along the top, and the column going down has not only character names, but also player names.

It sorta functions as a practical tiering list, because you’re taking a bunch of good players and seeing how they rank relative to each other, but there are of course exceptions…you have entire characters missing, notably Gief. And of course, not all of the players play different characters.

From Alpha 1, we know Guy and Akuma are broken.

I’m still wondering about A2G myself.

For A2G, I would guess that it’s not much different from A2. Chun-li might be lower in the Big Four, but she’s still Big Four. The other Big Four either remained the same or got improved, and many weaker characters got worse. ONly Dhalsim and Gen (sorta) got improve. 3rd tier might have been reshuffled a bit, Gen might now be 3rd tier instead of hanging out in 4th tier with Dan, but otherwise, it’s the same as A2.

I have no idea about Cammy. I don’t think anyone played Cammy in A2G for PSX/Saturn enough to care.

middlekick’s list seems pretty spot on except most japanese people i know would tell you to switch sakura and dhalsim

the alpha 2 tiers posted by that one guy are pretty accurate.

but like i believe evil ryu is better than normal ryu for a couple reasons. evil ryu has the akuma teleport, which allows him to get out of corners well, if not telegraphed. evil ryu also has a shoryu reppa, which allows him to get pretty solid damage, and a knockdown off short short xx lv 1 shoryu reppa. also he can combo into shoryu reppa in the corner after shinku tastumaki. he also gets demon, which while may not be as good, still is a useful “fear” reversal. also evil ryus lk hurricane cc does more damage consistantly than fireball rave.

chun li is number 1 in a2 though.

imo top tier rankings are like this.

1:chun li (extremely fast walking speed, normals, crazy jumpins, builds meter EXTREMELY fast, anti airs(c.rh, s.rh, lv1 kikoshou), amazing specials(quick, invincible overhead thats safe on block lol…), great customs, pretty good supers too)

2(tie):evil ryu(fireballs knocking down point blank, allowing hit confirms leading to knockdowns, crossup, good dp, good cc, good lv1 super)/ken(2nd best ac in the game, very strong customs, good dp, good crossup, good supers)

3:rose(c.mp, lv1 soul illusion unblockables leading to like 45% life off said c.mp, very strong anti airs (lv1 soul throw, c.fp) good sweep, fireball reflect, good crossup, builds meter extremely fast, BEST alpha counter in the game)
4:normal ryu(fierce fireballs basically lol. decent customs, just general shoto shit, but its good in this game crossup, c.rh, c.mk xx fireball etc…)

chun li got severely nerfed in a2g because she lost bufferable c.mk, and her lightning leg cc sucks now.

ryu also was severely weakened in a2g because he lost his knockdown fireball, and it was replaced with shitty red fireball, and they do less damage overall.

ken is still really good though.

ken is probably number 1 in a2g.

rose didnt really change much, except for like her absorbed soulspark cc was toned down, which doesnt really matter because you arent gonna hit that on anyone with 1/2 a brain.

What exactly made Charlie so good in A1?

charlie is not that good in a1, i mean hes good but hes not top tier.

top a1 is akuma/guy/ken/rose imo. sodom has bs, but he has to knock you down first.

regular ryu has the better strong shoryuken though, that knocks the opponent full screen. Evil ryu doesnt.

and yea ditto on the ryu is worse in gold. Having the command red fireball is shitty, plus its slower to start up. So no more mashing duck kX3/4 fierce fireball for knock down and good stun. The red fireball as a stand alone move wouldnt combo from those ranges anymore.

The command red fireball still retains it’s knockdown ability at close range, but it will now only combo from moves of medium strength or higher. But yeah, no more easy knockdowns. :frowning:

Looks pretty good, but that Evil Ryu thing … I still doubt he is better then normal Ryu. He takes more damage (really deadly if you think how much some chars do with CC’s), which means less mistakes. Evil Ryu has also a weaker dp and this c.RH, qcb+ any kick/ShoRyuReppa hit confirm combos or generel Reppa stuff doesn’t make up for the lifebar and dp IMHO. The ShinkuHadoKen is good enough in combos and after a hopkick etc… You also safe meter most of the time for an CC with Ryu … I would put both Ryu’s on the same level, maybe the normal one even higher. :slight_smile: Ken is a tad bit better anyway, just thanks to his CC’s …

Oh and even if Guy was in his worst form in Alpha 2 (got better in Gold thx to reduction of of other chars) he could cancel his c.FK with a Hurricane Kick. Damn that could so nice to have in A3 …

Yeah, a cancellable c.mk was really nice to have. But in the transition from A1 to A2, they took away a lot. Non-cancellable s.mk and c.hp was just too much. In A3, you can land a slide after the s.mp,s.hp chain but you have to be really fast.

does evil ryu really take more damage? i havent really noticed it, but i havent extensively tested it either. if he does then that changes things alot, but barring that, ill take evil ryu.

regarding the top tiers in a2.

chun is pretty much undisputed #1. outside of shotos, she has a slight to heavy advantage in every other matchup.

the rest of the 4 is debatable. some days (evil)ryu will place higher, some day rose will place higher, other days ken will place higher.

gief and rolento does well agaisnt shotos and gief does really well against rose. sakura is really random. she either does really well or not.

but its common knowledge that

chun > rose
rose > (evil)ryu/ken
(evil)ryu/ken > chun

the advantages they have against each other are pretty miniscule though. they dont counter each other outright, but have a slight advantage against each other.

evil ryu and regular ryu are basically the same. evil ryu’s mp dp is worse than regular ryus and he takes a tad more damage, although not as bad as akuma. but he has more moves in his arsenal and on some versions, his valle CC was unblockable from full screen or something like that.

i personally like evil ryu over regular ryu. regular ryu is too bland for me and having a teleport to escape out of the corner helps me a lot.

Wow then Evil Ryu got an edge over normal Ryu, else nope … Anyway, pls explain how to do the unblockalbe on that distance, do I need to input something special before activation ot is it just a bug on normal activation? Damn …, I need to play the game soon again.^^
