Tiers in each of the Alpha games

man, the A3 tiers are really really wacky aside from the top 3.

why is v karin so high up nowadays and v charlie so low? and i could have sworn that balrog was much higher. rolento and chun in the same rank as honda?

not like it matter since i dont play a3 as much but i always thought the top tier was like

top: v akuma, a sim, v sakura

high: v sagat, v gief, v charlie, v ryu

Why is V akuma top tier since Ryu can dizzy him easily?

Alpha and Alpha 2 Gold to fill in. Corrections please on the tiers as of now. I wont edit unless there’s at least two others that agree with it.

I mostly agree with Middlekick’s rankings, except I would move Honda up and I would move Juli and Birdie down.

Birdie ??? worse than Dan???..
Told ya’ll only real manly men wear pink.

what makes sagat mid tier in alpha 2? i’ve always regarded him as being higher than sakura. and how do you use rose? for the past five years, i’ve been hearing about rose rose rose in alpha 2, and i never seen a single video… every video i see for alpha 2 is the shotos, sagat, chun li, sakura, bison, charlie… bleh… i’ve never seen a good rose (i have seen roses, but none that even held up against random scrubs)

Sagat has nice normals, a DP, and high damage CC. Can’t be too shabby right? :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know much about A2 Rose, but I know that she has enough to be a beast. c.fierce is brainless AA (and can be cancelled into lvl1 soul throw for damage). Her sweep is huge, which gives her long range CC (and nice damage). Reflect/absorb shuts down projectiles and builds meter like crazy.

She has crossup, and good jump-ins. She has hit-confirmable bread and butter combos that knockdown. Shadows super is awesome, good for chip, and even has unblockables. Her Alpha-Counter gives you a free combo of your choice (potentially most damaging AC in the game?)

…and I’m sure you’re heard about duck strong abuse.

I’m probably missing a lot, but she just has a ton of abusable stuff.

sagats normals are decent, but no where as good as they are in cvs2 or even A3.

A2 sak has the crossup from hell, good CCs and she has the back+hp from A3 v-sak. her standing hk is the standing hk from cvs2, which means no one can duck under it unlike in a3.

Alpha 2 Gold’s tiers have to be considerably different from regular A2. Chun-Li, in particular, got raped.

I would also put Sagat in second tier.

A2 Rose has too many options. Good AC (grabs pretty much everything, with good timing…you can grab people out of supers, out of the air, etc and you can combo after it. Good normals, especially crouching Fierce (great anti-air…c.FP xx Level 1 throw super is like 30% damage) and crouching Strong.

CCs are OK, though not great. Fireball super can be used as anti-air, though the throw super beats pretty much everything anyway, even early. Shadow super (Soul Illusion) does buff damage, great block damage, and has safe unblockables. Can also be used vs jump ins (Soul Illusion ->slide, though people may stop jumping at you after you hit them with c.FP xx super a few times).

Has Soul Reflect vs fireballs, which means she can build meter REALLY quickly, and also gets some tricks like…if Ryu is halfway across the screen and throws a fireball, you use medium Soul Reflect to send it back at him, he throws another one (either out of habit or to counter the one you sent back), you CC while the fireballs cancel each other out. Level 1/2 reflect supers are nice to have vs fireballs (level 2 beats everything), and the Level 3 soul throw super is obviously insane. Also has her own fireball, which pushes her back when she does it…ie. someone is too close, you do crouching Forward xx SP fireball, you’re now further away from them, if that’s where you want to be.

Crouching Strong being so good allows you to cancel from it. Example, crouching SP xx Soul illusion, sweep -> crossup -> whatever (this can actually be done after an AC, like most of her combos).

It’s not really one big thing that she has, but she has a little bit of everything. Has a few issues vs Zangief and some other characters, but she’s clearly pretty damn good.

Guy was versatile in A1…his jump was atrocious but he had a decent ground game to rely on. One low light kick was all practically all he needed to dizzy your ass, and repeat the combo for damage/meter. His dash kicks with mid/rh had almost no startup delay and were very hard to punish save with alpha counters. He could also chain into his dash overhead which was hard as shit to react to. Throw a couple corner juggles into the mix and he wasn’t tops in the game(my memory’s spotty about tiers in this period since not too many people took Alpha 1 all that seriously, tops were Birdie/Sodom not counting Akuma)but he was upper second without really thinking about it.

I’d take A1 Guy over any of the neutered A2 or 3 Guys 8 days out of the week.

I never said guy wasnt good, im only argueing the argument that he belongs in his own god tier, or bs tier.

also yea, I dont think anyone would ever pick a2 guy if they had the choice.

Also id like to say im sure a lot of things that people use to call ā€œcheapā€ from guy wouldnt work nearly as well as they do now. Stand foward, to bushin throw, or duck fierce. That kinda shit use to be ā€œcheapā€ some people would say. Id say in genral they average player has better reflexs then back then, and they would duck fierce it or anti air it with something in way more cases now then back then.

Does anyone know the tiers for for A2G or SFA3U. I’m curious too see where Cammy from A2G fits as well as Dee Jay, T. Hawk, Guile, and Fei Long in AF3U. As well as Evil Ryu in both versions. Thanks.

I think I actually saw somewhere (probably GameFAQs, if so I’m taking that with a grain of salt) that V-DeeJay is top tier in SFA3U. Without any really detailed strategies and well-tested V-ism combos to go around, I’ve been playing him by ear, and he does seem to have some very nice anti-air and midscreen VCs.

T. Hawk sucks, I can tell you that right now. Guile isn’t anything close to Charlie as far as I can tell (can’t guard crush nearly as well), and I’ve seen him dropped into ass-tier or close to it on more than a few lists. Don’t have a clue about Fei-Long.

A2G’s top tier is probably about the same (except obviously for Chun-Li), although Rose loses her 100% CC, and the fireball nerfing hurts Ryu in particular quite a bit because he can’t CC those like he used to. Dhalsim got more powerful.

PSX Deejay was a monster.

Fei Long is good too. If he had a high damage VC I think he’d be a monster too.

Yeah, but I didn’t spend much time playing the PSX version because it was just messed up all around.

But just out of curiosity, how does A3U Dee Jay compare? I think the tier list I saw still had V-Akuma and V-Sakura at top tier, who I know in A3U fell out along with the rest of A3’s top-tier characters. Maybe that list referred to the PSX version?

I’d say that A-Guy and A-Gen are the new top tier in A3U.

how does cammy in SFA2G rank?

I can’t quite make out the names on that list. I’m seeing Gouki twice, Balrog (Claw) twice, etc. I’d say they were for different ISMs, but if that’s the case, but I’m not sure.

It also seems kinda cracked. V-Sodom 3rd best character? Blanka showing up at all? No Rolento or V-Gief? SOmething definitely ain’t right.

can’t read it… so… the price is WRONG BITCH… j/k
