What makes Engineers better than adepts?

I was under the impression the drone sucked.

Engineers have Overload and Incinerate, which very, very important powers. Adepts have Warp, and that’s the only power they have that’s worth using. Also, the Combat Drone does decent damage in addition to distracting enemies very, very well.

Engineers are good.

Thanks, that makes sense. I forgot how the new health system emphasizes the important of different damage types.

However , I disagree with your mass effect 1 tiers, especially on insanity.

God tier:
Soldier- Immunity is the best ability in the game, that combined with adrenaline burst makes Shepard immortal, this means he can melee Geth colossi, Krogan warlords and even thresher maws(!) to death. He may not have any biotic or tech powers but he doesn’t need them since he simply doesn’t die. Boring, but broken none the less. Oh, and he has the Assault rifle.

High tier:
Sentinel - ultra crowd control and stasis spam goodness. They have an answer to stop everything well.
Vanguards- have great crowd control with little damage output, especially when given singularity. Biotics coupled with adrenaline burst is pretty insane.

Mid:
Infiltrator. again, immunity is too good but doesn’t have adrenaline burst to help him maintain permanent immunity. In addition, the infiltrator can really exploit the marksman talent (with it on the pistol is the highest dps weapon in the game, no really!).

Adept - Never has to fire a round and can spam abilities non-stop come endgame becomes even better when paired with a bonus talent such as assault rifle. occasionally the only reason adepts aren’t higher is that they the occasional charging krogan warlord.
Bottom:
Engineer: Engineer’s mines, while spammable, do no damage, can’t CC very well and in addition to that only has the bonus shields provided from electronics to back him up. On insanity this means you have to run and hide an awful lot and encounters take very long.

I miss my xbox :frowning:

You do know that with Medical Exoskeleton X armor mods, an Infiltrator can keep both Immunity and Marksman active indefinitely, don’t you? Adrenaline Burst doesn’t really help much except for in clinch situations. The class that benefits most from it is Vanguard, since it helps clear out a room with relative ease(Lift+Throw+bonus talent Singularity+Adrenaline Burst).
Pistols are the most damaging weapons in the game. No build for an assault rifle can out-damage a pistol with two Rail Extension VII mods, a Snowblind Rounds X mod, and Master Marksman activated. This damage is further boosted by the Commando class, which is accessible to Soldier and Infiltrator.

An Infiltrator is a very, very, very close second in terms of damage output and damage protection(only the Soldier can dish more out and take less, and even then, only by a small margin), and first in terms of utility. An Infiltrator’s damage resistance through Immunity(which is balls-easy to keep active at all times) allows it to run around with little to fear and liberally apply Sabotage, Overload, Damping, and any bonus talents as it sees fit. No other class is so immediately prepared for any situation.

INF > SOL = VAN > SEN = ADE > ENG.

I thought there was an about 3-5 second gap without adrenaline burst, even with mods.

If that’s not the case then infiltrator is definitely much better.

yeah once you get the marksman achievement you can keep marksman up 95% of the time.

So I agree.

Edit:
Alright next game
Diablo II tiers. I have no idea how to rate them but I remember having lots of discussions as to how broken frozen orb was/wasn’t. I also think hammerdins may be high tier.

You can keep Marksman and Immunity up on an Infiltrator or a Soldier at all times. I’m not sure about any class without the Commando subclass, though. I’ll test it out on an Engineer or a Vanguard later on.

Hammerdins before patch 1.13 were by far the most broken thing in the game. It became the end all scumbag thing to have because it doesn’t matter what kind of shit blizzard added, such as uber trist, Hammerdin always mopped through everything free. However in 1.13 I think they got rid of the glitch that ignores undead magic resistance.

Frozen Orb is very good but hard to say if it’s truly broken.

ignore dis

OK, this next tier list is going to be controversial, but I’m going to take a stab at it.

Mega Man (original series from 1-10) music tiers:

S: 2
A: 3, 4, 9
B: 10, 7, 5, 1
C: 8
D: 6

I think the A and B tiers are interchangeable, but I feel that the absolute best is 2 and the worst is 6.

Star Ocean 4 International tiers. Enjoy!

S

Meracle: She is extremely powerful in both the main story and in the post-game. She does high damage, can lock down enemies, and has one of the best Blindsides in the game. X Claw is insanely powerful; it does extreme damage, and it can hit multiple targets. Chaining X Claw with another X Claw should be banned if SO4 had a Vs. mode like SO3 did. Ripper Pounce is great for locking down the enemy; combine it with Stun to increase the activation rate. Chaining Ripper Pounce into itself is also a good idea. The only real problem with Meracle is her basic attacks are all over the place, making them hard to connect reliably or link into chain combos. Also, she can?t learn Convert, but she can learn Berserk and Focus…yeah.

Bacchus: He can lock down foes pretty well too, but he can do groups of them at a time with Black Hole Sphere. This skill, combined with Irradiation, is your lifesaver in the bonus dungeons. Bacchus moves slowly, but he has the best dodge in the game. You can use it to get around the battlefield quickly, and he can attack while dodging. Bacchus has the highest HP, but also the lowest MP; however, Convert nullifies that drawback. Emergency Repairs allows Bacchus to heal himself multiple times in rapid succession, without relying on casters or items. Note that Galvanic Shock is the only skill with an instant cancel; you can cancel the startup without the move going into its attack frames, but you still get the chain combo bonus for the next skill.

A

Sarah: Easily the best healer/support in the game. Just make sure you turn off her attack magic when the AI is controlling her. Her light magic is powerful though, so if you want to deal damage with her, it might be best to temporarily take control of her. Sarah would shoot up to S tier if she could learn Fast Cast.

Arumat: He has both magic and combat skills, but he?s far better as a melee fighter. His special skills are flashy and attack several targets at once. His ultimate skill, Dragon Roar, does high damage, hits many targets, and it keeps Arumat safe from counterattacks at the right distance. Because of its slow startup, Dragon Roar is not safe at close range; it’s best if you assign the skill to its own button, and only that skill. I find his normals to be on the slow side, and his long X attack has a lot of startup, so avoid using it. Arumat has a move specifically for hitting downed enemies (EDIT: actually, other characters do, too), resetting them back to a stance where they can be hit again. His Blindside is good because he teleports directly behind the enemy, avoiding any traffic.

Reimi: Her greatest strength is obviously her long-range attacks. In addition to having superior long range skills, she also has high critical hit rates (I think the highest in the game), and the Focus skill raises it even further. The only problem is her skills have startup time, so make sure you?re a good distance away from any threats. Reimi?s ultimate skill, Savage Sparrows, does great damage, and has homing ability. If an enemy is knocked down and you use this skill, the ball things will wait until it gets up and then nail him.

Lymle: She?s the best offensive caster in the game. On top of having powerful magic, she has some great battle skills in Cerberus. Any of the Cerberus skills are good, but Hound Grenade and Trinity Blaze are recommended. Combine those with Mindflare, and you have a little girl that deals hot death, Use Trinity Blaze during a rush combo and look at the damage. Lymle has the lowest HP in the game, so set her AI to ?stay out of trouble.? Trinity Blaze is seriously good, but because of its range, don’t use it in a chain combo; Lymle won’t move into range.

B

Edge: His normals are straightforward, which is good because they’re easy to link combos with. He can use some magic, some of which are useful. The problem is his specials; Edge has a lot of trouble dealing with groups, and his specials will often miss without some coordination on the player?s part. Because most of his skills attack single targets, Edge shines best in one-on-one battles, which means he is ideal for rush combos, and he?s also a good choice for solo battles in the coliseum. Edge is great at juggling, as long as you can time the moves correctly. Edge?s ultimate skill, Scintillant Stream, is the most damaging skill in the game?if you land all the hits. Raging Strike does the most single-hit damage in the game?if you land the hit. See the pattern? Edge has some cool-looking moves like Mystic Cross and Scintillant Stream; he wouldn’t be out of place in a fighting game. But compared to SO3’s Fayt, he?s nowhere near as broken, let alone useful.

Myuria: She?s only here because she?s outclassed by Lymle and Sarah, but she?s not as bad as Faize. She has a unique normal attack where she steals MP from her target, but she can learn Convert, so there’s no need to put herself in danger like that. Myuria?s good for stun locking enemies with Thunder Flare and Plasma Cyclone, but for pure damage, you want Lymle (unless the enemy you’re fighting blocks fire). The Dark Devourer spell is handy. Extinction is OK because it’s non-elemental, and Myuria’s the only one with non-elemental magic. Myuria is a good pick if you want two healers in your party, but she should never replace Sarah. The AI for one healer might act dumb, so the other can cover for it, and vice versa.

C

Faize: He suffers the same identity crisis as SO3?s Adray. Faize looks like someone with sword skills, but he has none at all. Technically, he’s a pure magic user, but he’s outclassed by the other casters. Outside of trophies, there isn’t a single reason to use Faize.

What’s great about this list is that it’s very close to how the games stack up against each other in playability, with only perhaps 8 and 1 switching positions (and for the record, I think 8’s music is a bit better than 1’s).

Surprised to see Lymle above Edge on your SO4 list.

Lymle’s more useful than Edge overall, that’s why I placed her above Edge. Edge can’t deal consistent damage, and all of his attacks are close-range…that’s a big problem.

Here are tiers for a very good and underrated game I bet very few people heard of:

Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator

S Tier

  • Araym - Araym is easily the best character in the game. He’s the fastest character and his physical attacks do a lot of damage, which is great since his normal attack hits every enemy in a line. His magic, while not superb is passable, so he isn’t a serious hindrance to your Core rating. The only bad things about him are that his Lv. 3 skills are his best skills, but they are learned late in the game and he dies pretty easily because his defense is bad.

A Tier

  • Grubb - Grubb kicks ass. He’s kinda useless before you get a lot of Fate Cards, but once you do, he’s a great addition to the team because he’s only slightly slower than Araym and his magic does lots of damage, especially since the game makes weaknesses obvious. He rapes robots for free because you can spam his Repair skill to one-shot most robotic normal enemies and he does very fast damage to robotic bosses. If you do Led and Grubb’s romance sidequest and you do the smart thing and save Led, he learns the LedCombo skill, which is also pretty spammable and does lots of damage to single targets, but requires that Led be in the party with Grubb, which is okay since Led kicks ass as well. He does wonders for your Core totals. He’d probably be the best character in the game if he didn’t take a long time to get levels.

  • Maya - Maya is slightly above average in all attributes and is the most useful character in random battles because damn all of her skills hit multiple, if not every enemy in battle. Maya loses usefulness in boss battles because most boss battles are against single targets, relegating her to support. She can never leave your party, so it’d be wise to give her all of your best gear. Of course, the fact that most characters use Engines for their weapons is a pain in the ass.

  • Selina - Selina rules, plain and simple. She’s fast, has high physical attacks and her magic and Core ratings are only bested by Led and Grubb, and all of her skills are useful except Charge. Her stats are comparable to Maya’s, except that she favors magic and Selina levels up the fastest of every party member. Outside of Fate Cards, Selina has only one way to hit multiple targets, and that skill sucks because it doesn’t do enough damage considering the Core cost. Selina is the most versatile character and can work well with any party member except the robots and Corgan, before you do her and Corgan’s sidequest.

  • Led - Led is almost as good as Grubb, but she’s slightly worse because her skills as a whole aren’t as useful as Grubb’s and her slightly higher physical stats are moot since she’s still the second physically weakest character, barely edging out Grubb. Her Repair skill isn’t as good as Grubb’s because even though Led’s is Lv. 1 while Grubb’s is Lv. 2, Grubb’s is more effective and Grubb’s much better speed lets him charge his bar quicker than Led does. If you have Grubb save her in their romance sidequest, she learns GrubbCombo, which is the highest single target damage skill in the game, but sadly requires that Grubb be in the party, which isn’t optimal for boss battles all the time. Since she’s forced to party with Lobo at the endgame, you need to do their sidequest or the game becomes unwinnable, since she can and will periodically one-shot Lobo with her Repair skill. Her only major weakness is that she takes forever to gain levels for some reason.

B Tier

  • Badu - Badu rocks… in boss battles only. His more damaging skills are Lv. 1 skills, which stanches his piss poor speed somewhat. He’s too slow to be really useful in normal battles and he sucks at magic, which impacts your Core rating. His Lv. 2 skills can occasionally put status effects on bosses. He’s wonderful if you can improve his speed and he has the best defense in the game.

  • Lobo - Except for being faster, Maya basically outclasses him completely since his physical attacks are barely better than Maya’s, with Maya having much better defense. All of Lobo’s skills are weaker versions of Maya’s and Lobo hinders your Core rating, though not as much as Runner. He needs to be in a party with Grubb or Led for healing since he’s a robot, but he and Led will occasionally attack each other in battle until you do their sidequest. He’s pretty good, but he’s more or less Maya-lite, which sucks since Maya is in your party the whole game, leaving little reason to use Lobo that often.

  • Corgan - Corgan is pretty bad as a whole because he’s slow, so Araym, Maya, Selina, and Lobo will often do more damage in a quicker amount of time than Corgan. His magic rating also blows almost as much as Lobo and Runner and his only really good skills are Lv. 3 skills, which sucks since he’s slow. He provides a decent amount of Core though his magic sucks. He and Selina will occasionally attack each other in battle until you do their sidequest, which is mandatory since he and Selina are forced to party together at the endgame. The only reason he isn’t in the same tier as Runner is because he levels quickly and Runner deserves a tier all his own

Makes Kongol Look Good Tier

  • Runner - Runner is a fucking loser. He has good physical stats and can steal from shops (which Araym does much more reliably), but he provides next to no Core, he’s slow as hell, can’t be used to get info from NPCs since he can’t talk, and his skills all suck. The only good thing about him is that his normal attack hits in a line, but so does Araym’s and he’ll get at least four Lv. 3 attacks to Runner’s one. He needs to be paired with Grubb or Led for healing since he’s a robot and healing items are wasted on him.

Final Fantasy XIII. Go.

lol?

At max everyone can do everything soooo…how the hell would that work unless you were just goofing off?

Although I do think some characters are better with certain moves like Sazz has a better blitz attack since he uses guns.

Those aren’t games; unless you elaborate. But, you pretty much already made the list.

Top Tier
Dragonball - Clearly the best of his works besides Sandland and (perhaps) Doctor Slump. Likeable characters, good storyline and believable growth for the main character as both a Martial Artist and person. The Personality written here is done really well for the characters; and there’s sizable amount of humor and little real life legend placed in as well. Really underrated title. I can’t praise it enough; this is probably Toriyama’s most accomplished work to date.

Garbage tier
Dragonball Z - This is just real trash. We all readily admit we ran in as soon as school was done to watch this back when Toonami was actually good but looking back at it, you can’t honestly call it a good anime. Some of Toriyama’s personality remains, but it gets completely muddled underneath the blatant powering up and drawn-out battles with doses of dumb drama. And since it takes itself so seriously the leaps in logic and plotholes cannot be ignored. It is interesting to the characters “grown up” but this is really just stuff that appeals to pre-teen boys.

Dragonball GT - This is even worse because not only does it have almost no personality, rendering it boring and pandering; the storyline is blatantly being drawn out for milking purposes. The power level is even more ridiculous but Z pushed it so high seeing it in practice is exactly the same. One can only surmise Saiyans can destroy entire Solar Systems with an eyeblink at the SSJ4 and Gold Ape levels. The new characters are annoying and possess none of the humor present in the original. The new enemies are even stupidier than Z. You can see what they meant to do here, though. Making Goku back into a kid and than combining that with the features in Z to bring the series back. I could appreciate that, but it wasn’t done well at all. It picks up slightly near the end but its too little, too late.

A common example of when less is more.

End of the day, different characters still have different stats, even with a maxed out Crystarium. I know, for instance, that the highest physical attack stat belongs to Fang, so that makes her the best Commando.

Also, certain characters don’t get certain skills. For example, Vanille never gets Haste as a Synergist, so she’s not a good choice for the job. Also, Hope has jack shit for HP or Strength, so you wouldn’t want him as a Commando or Sentinel.
