Tiers for non-fighting games?

Isn’t everyone basically the same except for special moves? Nightcrawler’s and colossus’ cover the whole screen for the most part.

Colossus does seem stronger than say, Wolverine. But maybe its just my imagination.

I figure Colossus’ epic yell when you use his mutant power puts him into the S-tier.

Where did you come up with this?

Top: Storm. She has the longest reach on her front-facing normal attacks that lets her outreach Blob/Wendigo/Nimrod/Fakeneto’s physical attacks and any normal enemy and lock them with her melee chain until knockdown safely, has a dive attack that can damage enemies as soon as it comes out (a trait shared only with Nightcrawler), and is tied with Wolverine for second-best Mutant Power (A line-clearing piercing attack that covers 1/4-1/3 of the game’s vertical plane) Biggest flaws are a slow grounded attack (slowest in the game) and extremely difficult to get throws with.

Upper: Wolverine- Second in range only to Storm (if you can coax his straight-arm claw stab to come out) and can lock out many of the bosses in the game the same way she can. Mutant power is similarly like Storms- a little slower at short ranges but faster at reaching the far side of the playing area, and basically clears out an entire line of enemies with about 1/4-1/3 vertical reach. Very capable grabber, behind only Dazzler. Biggest weakness is all around terrible jumping attacks.

Mid: Dazzler- Only character in the game who can reliably throw on demand with practice- her throw is the only attack option that will come out at certain ranges/situations. Otherwise, terrible character. Worst ‘hopping’ jump attack, pretty meh dive attack, worst Mutant Power in the game (Slow lobbing explosive, very small active range) and worst reach in the game besides Nightcrawler. Ability to basically one-shot kill the most common enemies in the game (and anything you throw them into) on demand saves her.

Cyclops- Back attack has the best reach of all character’s normal attacks in the game, giving Cyke safer options for attacking then anyone else in the game if he’s patient and cautious. Mediocre mutant power (an explosion centered on the first enemy it collides with) and otherwise unnoteworthy attacks (if not actively terrible like Dazzler/Colossus) keep him from going higher. Like Dazzer, one strong facet that is completely abusable with a lot of practice, but difficulty getting back attacks in crowded melees puts him down around her level instead of above it.

Low: Nightcrawler- Best diving attack in the game and is one of two characters with one that comes out at the start of it’s forward movement. Very good hopping jump attack too. Mutant Power is amazing and clears the entire screen barring bad luck with teleport pattern. Extremely short range on grounded normal attacks, barring his back attack which is nothing special, making him an extremely risky character to use against bosses unless you’re token-scumming and spamming mutant powers until they die.

Bottom: Colossus- Terrible grounded attacks all-around makes Colossus very hard to work with- a strong throwing game makes him passable (if very slow- unlike every other character his normal throw is incapable of hitting nearby enemies when let go) against the most numerous of enemies, and his hopping jump attack is possible the best of it’s class for the rare occasion it’s worth it. Mutant power is a point-blank AoE panic button, which has it’s uses.

Thanks for the borderlands tier list, I thought the sniper was a bit OP and im still on my first playthrough, can any1 do a snowboard kids tier list? I haven’t played that game in ages

Also, a quick attempt at a conker’s BFD weapons tier lists

God Tier
Shotgun (only up close, beats all melee weapons if fired first, one hit kill)

Jago’s Katana (increased agility, good jump, one hit kill attack)

Throwing Knives (auto aim headshots as long as you face the target, hilarious counter for katana users)

High Tier
Shotgun (God tier up close)

Chainsaw (slower version of katana but still one hit kill)

Magnum (one hit kill, but shitty movement speed, useless for hip firing unless your really close)

m14(one hit kill if headshot, faster rate of fire than sniper and does the same damage as the sniper but without the zoom)

Middle Tier
Sniper rifle (one hit kill if headshot)

baseball bat (think about the game mode heist, and then you’ll know why)

double automatics(one hit kill if headshot, pretty much no escape when caught in line of fire due to hit animations, only shitty mobility holds it back)

Bazooka (very powerful…but awful fucking mobilty, can be good for surprises or if you have the higher ground, needs the target in front of you to stand any chance in 1v1 because how sluggish it can be)

Crossbow (one hit headshots, pretty much the same as the sniper but better up close

Low Tier
Flamethrower (lol, awful, plus you can burn yourself by being in the way of the target you just burnt, plus its shitty range means you always have to be up close meaning this will happen a lot, and last but not least, shitty mobility

feedback is welcome

In order to bump this thread, I’m revisiting the same games I always tier. Once again, I’m tiering the classes, but this time, I’m adding the best bonus talent for each class, and in the case of Mass Effect 2, the best bonus weapon as well. Keep in mind that this tier list is assuming that the player has raised the difficulty to Insanity.

Mass Effect Class Tiers

Top Tier

Vanguard + Singularity: Give this class Singularity and it becomes unstoppable. Master Lift alone can insta-kill entire groups at once, but couple it with Throw, Singularity, and the cooldown reset Adrenaline Burst, and there’s no way you can possibly lose. Game-breaking if ever there was game-breaking.
Adept + Sniper Rifles: See Vanguard, but swap out Adrenaline Rush and medium armor for Stasis. Bastion Master Stasis can stunlock any enemy in the game(any enemy, I’m not exaggerating) and you can just watch them freeze with fear as you fill them with bullets. Each of these two has slight advantages over the other, but they dominate this game. Sniper Rifles are the best bonus talent for this class because Adept needs no bonus talent. Even with zero points, a sniper rifle can serve the occasional use, and their zoom is more important than that of a shotgun or assault rifle.

Middle Tier

Infiltrator + Hacking: Immunity ensures a longer life span than any other class except Soldier, and Hacking means that, in addition to mind-controlling synthetics(of which there are thousands in this game), the Infiltrator is able to borderline rapid-fire tech attacks, keeping huge groups of enemies constantly disabled. Master Assassination, an attack that can insta-kill almost anything with legs, is icing on cake.
Soldier + Singularity: When in doubt, just give it Singularity. Soldier is functional(if blase) on its own, but adding Singularity gives the class much-needed crowd control. Singularity will cool down forever and a Tuesday, though, because the Soldier can do nothing to reduce its recharge time other than the standard-issue Medical Exoskeletons. High damage output(the highest, actually) and Adrenaline Burst keep this class fresh, but without much else, the Soldier is left wanting.
Sentinel + Singularity: Adept-tier crowd control and the lowest damage output in the game make the Sentinel a massive tit-for-tat. You’ll spend the entire game doing piss for damage, and your reward for your patience is the ability to do shit Adept and Vanguard can do, but you’re nowhere near as good at it. The addition of tech powers is cute, but the only time this is a real boon is when you’re fighting turrets or drones that can’t all be controlled at once with a single biotic power the way walking things can.

Low Tier

Engineer + Barrier: No crowd control, mediocre damage, abysmal survivability, and limited utility make the Engineer indisputably the weakest class in Mass Effect. Disabling every enemy in the room is fun, and the Medic spec makes for some interesting support, but the Sentinel is better at the “Medic” role than the Engineer is. If you like watching Ashley Williams kill things, then this is the class for you. Otherwise, roll Infiltrator.

Mass Effect 2 Class Tiers

Top Tier

Sentinel + Stasis w/ Shotguns: Jee-zus. Where do I begin? Assault Armor means you don’t need to really acknowledge the existence of cover or your enemies’ gunfire. Stasis means that “boss” type enemies are rendered trivial(especially YMIR Mechs, fuck). Add to that the Geth Plasma Shotgun, and you have a card-carrying killing machine. Insanity becomes piss-easy with this build. The only drawback is that being god is fucking boring.
Soldier + Flashbang Grenade w/ M-98 Widow: The addition of the M-96 Mattock beefed up an already effective class. With Adrenaline Burst active, the Mattock Soldier has the highest damage output in the game, and the addition of the game’s best Sniper Rifle and a bullet-time ability with a three-second cooldown means that you will constantly be blowing up heads from hundreds of yards away. The Geth Plasma Shotgun or Scimitar Assault Rifle only make things even better, and Flashbang Grenade gives the class crowd control and utility. On top of that, unlike the Sentinel, it’s fun to play a Soldier. Shit, I have one.

Middle Tier

Infiltrator + Warp/Armor-Piercing Ammo w/ M-98 Widow: A more subtle sniper than the Soldier, and a slightly less effective one, the Infiltrator adds the utility of Tactical Cloak, Incinerate, and a submachine gun at the cost of damage output. Many Infiltrator mains swap out Warp and Armor-Piercing Ammo on a per-mission basis, using Assassination Cloak to take well-timed potshots at enemy platoons and drop them dead before they even know what’s going on. It’s a very exciting class(certainly my favorite), but it lacks the raw destructive power of the Soldier and the absurd godliness of the Sentinel.
Vanguard + Reave w/ Sniper Rifles: When I say ‘sniper rifles,’ I mean the M-97 Viper Sniper Diaper Wiper. There will be times when Psycho Cru…I mean…Biotic Charge does not get you were you need to go, and for those times, there is the Viper Sniper Diaper Wiper. At all other times, the Vanguard is all about rushing in and wrecking shop, and while it’s a very exciting class to play, it’s also probably the hardest in the game to learn. Reave adds a way to use cooldowns at a distance, or to perform an impromptu self-heal when the Vanguard can’t outlast enemies all the time. Reave and the shield boost that comes with Charge make the Vanguard very durable, more so than any other class except Sentinel.
Engineer + Warp Ammo w/ Shotguns: This is much more clear-cut. Send Drones out whenever you can. Geth Plasma Shotgun slaps around stray enemies. Incinerate burns armor. Overload nukes shields. Warp Ammo lets you use a submachine gun to wreck biotic barriers. Very cut-and-dry.

Low Tier

Adept + Barrier w/ Sniper Rifles: How the mighty have fallen. This flimsy class needs the panic button of Barrier to say afloat, and while Warp detonations are powerful, and Singularity is useful, it’s no Adrenaline Rush for damage, it’s no Tactical Cloak for positioning, and it sure as fuck is no Tech Armor for breaking the goddamn game. Struggles with shielded enemies(the most common type of protection) also hinder this class, as the Adept will need to bring along a squad mate on most missions to handle this sort of thing. That might work in the player’s favor, though, if they’re gunning for the Paramour achievement and want to kill things with their squeeze…
…Attention, fans of Garrus! Roll Adept, for the love of God!

No problem, although that tiers list is outdated because I made that during basic Borderlands, meaning no expansions. The expansions change everything, due to new equipment, much higher level cap, and Eridian Guns not being utter ass. This is an updated list

Solo PvE
Top

  • Mordecai - With more talent points, he’s god mode when soloing. He can just about 1-hit kill any non-boss (yes, even Guardians) if you’re not a moron and max out Trespass. Any Mord player that doesn’t max out Trespass is playing him incorrectly, since that’s his staple talent due to Mord being a damage character. My only complaint is that Mord has too many shit talents (any talent that gives extra loot and XP is useless when soloing), so pretty much every Mord will have the same solo build. With Trespass, he benefits the least from elemental weapons, except Explosive since explosions can also ignore armor, which makes him the best Rakk and Skag killer since they literally run in tight packs, so he can 1 or 2-hit kill whole Rakk and Skag teams.

  • Lilith - She became even more fun now that a lot of her broken talents have been fixed. She can basically max out any 2 trees (excluding garbage talents, such as Striking), so her versatility became even greater than before. She has the easiest time handling groups due to her having the only viable AoE combat capability. She’s the only character that can make serious use of Eridian weapons, since the Knoxx content Eridian Guns have slightly shorter recharge time, are considered elemental for some reason, and don’t have a movement penalty.

Mid

  • Roland - He can now do decent damage with more talent points, though most Roland players will have the same build for soloing, since a lot of his Support and some of his Medic talents are literally useless when soloing.

Low Tier

  • Brick - While Brick rocks in a 1st playthrough, he’s still gimped in subsequent playthroughs. There aren’t enough bladed weapons to make his Brawler tree a main stay, making Lilith the better melee character and his Berserk will still get you your butt smacked for free, especially against most melee badass enemies, like Badass Corrosive Skags. I will give him that there are a lot more rockets available now, so he can take care of himself as a Blaster before the late game now.

Group PvE
Top

  • Roland - He’s uber in group play now that you can grab and/or mod into all of his desirable Medic and Support talents in one build. His damage sucks compared to everyone else, but he guarantees that you’ll stay healthy and never run out of ammo, unless your teammates are being retarded

  • Lilith - Group play loves throwing groups of badasses at you, so her AoE build becomes of prime importance in group play. An Elemental/Control Lilith has excellent synergy with any group because this build can disable and kill groups at the same time. Her only weakness are bosses because her best group talents don’t really up her damage too much and Phasestrike becomes too risky when you have a bunch of guys attacking you.

Mid

  • Brick - He’s the best tank available since he’s more consistent than Lilith, plus with Diehard, your team would have to be really bad or outmatched for you to ever wipe. His damage isn’t spectacular unless you have a bladed weapon (Brawler) or got lucky with a tri-launcher (Blaster), but he does a very important job and does it well. Don’t even think about trying 4-man Moxxi without a Brick.

Low

  • Mordecai - He’s a 1-trick pony (Trespass), so he isn’t too useful in group play except to fight Guardians and bosses since group play tends to throw swarms of badass enemies at you. His problem is that he can only really do heavy damage to 1 target at a time, so while his output is high, he can’t contribute fast enough. I will say for farming teams, he’s a blessing because his villified gear drop talents in the Rogue tree can guarantee lots of cash and gear for farming groups. If you’re farming, grab a Mordecai and have him respec and you’ll make money hand over fist in a short amount of time, especially now that there are enough talent points and mods that you don’t have to max out to get Trespass as well as the loot talents.

PvP
Top

  • Mordecai - I hate to keep mentioning it, but with Trespass, he can 1-hit kill anyone. This dude is basically unbeatable in PvP

Mid
No one

Low

  • Everyone else - These guys get rocked too badly by Mordecai in PvP. I will afford that Brick is the best of the other 3 in PvP because he’s literally the only person with a modicum of a chance against Mordecai, at least if you spec into his lunging charge and his HP and mitigation Tank talents, that way he can rush Mordecai down.

Trine

Top Tier: The Thief
Middle Tier: The Wizard
Low Tier: The Knight

I thought people liked the viper better than widow for soldier? It’s because widow only get 1 shot in bullet time then reload, while viper can go crazy and the bullet time damage is on each shot. I think the bioware forums did some number crunching and had the viper out-dpsed the widow for the soldier because of the bullet time. Also the revenant is really good even though it has a crappy spread imo, you just have to get the feel of the ranges a bit then you’re good to go.

And for vanguard I really like the claymore rather than snipers. Though I admit, I abuse the reload glitch that makes me shoot fast so I can take on things like the colossus (It sounds so stupid and suicidal but after I saw someone do the vid, I had to try it out myself and is probably the most badass things you can do in me2). Sure there are some spots that you can’t reach but I tend to carry the collector beam which still kills things like collectors in the floating platform part pretty fast and I don’t think you really would be running out of ammo on the collector beam that fast since it holds a lot.

Once the Firepower Pack came out, the Mattock beat the Viper at the Viper’s own job. As a result, Widow Soldiers became more dominant. As for the Claymore, it’s mostly a matter of personal preference, but the Viper outdoes it in terms of sheer utility. The Eviscerator and Scimitar are fine for what most Vanguards want to do anyways.

Have weapon tiers for Vanquish been done already? Here are my impressions of the weapons (not all weapons have been fully upgraded, and I’m not covering melee so my tiers might be a bit inaccurate):

S tier

Assault: This weapon never left my side. It’s simply too reliable a weapon to give up. Because of its reliability, this weapon should be fully upgraded.

LFE: At first, I didn’t care for this weapon too much. Then I realized that the blast pierces through anything in its path, and it will obliterate the lesser enemies, making it perfect for crowd control. I found this weapon to be particularly useful against the Unknown (it made it easy to hit the weak point).

EMP: In a game where every enemy is a robot, how could this not be S tier? Unlike the grenades, these explode on impact, making them far more useful.

A

Rocket Launcher: Great for killing the bigger robots quickly, and it will decimate the Argus. Worth upgrading so that the lock-on is instantaneous.

Machine Gun: Powerful weapon that just doesn’t have the accuracy or ammo capacity of the Assault Rifle. I found myself using this weapon often because I like the power.

B

Grenades: These are pretty strong, but only if your target is slow/stationary and your aim is good. I’ve never tried it, but I’m betting you can shoot the grenades in mid-air, which would increase their effectiveness a bit.

Shotgun: I didn’t use this weapon that much because I prefer the ranged combat. I used it more in the late game and it turns out that it’s actually pretty powerful (when up close, of course). Good for killing lesser enemies, not so great otherwise.

C

Lock-on Laser: What hurts this weapon the most is that it’s useless in indoor areas. It’s also weak, making this weapon only useful against lesser enemies. But when you have the LFE, which is more destructive, why choose this weapon?

Sniper Rifle: Like sniper rifles in most shooters, this one has a ton of power. But its uses are really situational, thus it is not something you’ll carry with you in the entire game. It’s really only good for taking out the turret gunners and the bots on the walkers, but you can do the same thing with other weapons if your aim is good enough.

D
Disc Launcher: I don’t see much point in using this weapon. I guess the best use for this weapon is to take out the Romanov’s limbs.

Disc Launcher is great against the Unknown though. Just make sure you get away from it quickly after your attack ends. I never really found much use for it otherwise though. The fact that its melee attack doesn’t drain your armor is probably worth mentioning.

Also, what about dlc weapons? I think the Anti-Armor Pistol seems like it would be pretty top tier. It doesn’t hold much ammo but it kills smaller enemies in a single shot and has great range. It’s like a shotgun and sniper rifle in one.

The Boost Machine Gun is really powerful but I didn’t ever upgrade it much. Don’t know much about the Laser Cannon.

I feel like Knives Chau has forced a revision of the tier list for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Here’s what I’m seeing:

  1. Knives: At first glance, she’s just another skin for Kim. However, once she learns the kunai throw, she immediately becomes nearly invincible. Going around chucking those makes nearly impossible for enemies to ever get to you. Plus, if you go into hyper mode, you can continually throw kunai while gaining altitude to boot! Their damage isn’t bad at all, either. One kunai will do 30 at max strength, and if all three land then they do a whopping 80! Honestly, Knives isn’t very good otherwise, but that move breaks this game.

  2. Ramona: Honestly, she barely shades this spot above Scott, and she does so because of that mallet in her purse. The range on her running triangle attack makes it such a great move both for crowd control and juggles. Her unique attacks aren’t the best, granted, but they do a good job of continuing juggles (flip kick) and breaking enemy guard (flaming palm strike). She’s slightly slower than Scott in attack speed, but her range gives her the edge. Plus, being able to go into hyper mode whenever she wants is a good thing indeed.

  3. Scott: Excellent speed on his attacks and crazy combo ability right out of the box. Probably better than Ramona in 1-on-1 situations, but seeing how often you’re swarmed, that’s not a good enough advantage. His crowd control is still very good, thanks to his tackle, burning uppercut, and dash punch for quick knockdowns. However, he can get caught up trying to keep enemies off his back, and will have more trouble than Ramona in those situations.

  4. Nega Scott: He’s still very good, but suffers a bit compared to Scott. His headbutt finisher has a better hitbox than Scott’s roundhouse, but it’s also slower, giving enemies time to block. His unique moves are pretty solid, but landing his lunging knee can be tricky, and it leaves you wide open when blocked. His fireball can cut through crowds, but being blockable hurts that. Essentially, he’s Scott with worse crowd control. Oh, and having a forced GP penalty for playing him kinda sucks.

  5. Kim: Honestly, she’s not that bad. Her one standout move is her hundred-hand-slap for the crazy damage it can rack up really quickly. However, her main launcher being on triangle and not square is an issue, thanks to combos not necessarily having a set number of hits before the ender. Her projectile is OK for knockdowns, but is really risky against crowds. Her range is pretty short compared to the three above, which limits her crowd control and forces her to take risks. Her dashing butt-slam is still good, though.

  6. Stephen Stills: He survives by the mechanics of the game’s stats. He has no factors that really help him compared to the others. His range is pretty bad. His dashing square attack is the only one that doesn’t hit grounded enemies except for fatties. Like Kim, he doesn’t have anything that’s unblockable in his unique moveset, but she at least has the damage from hundred-hand-slap to compensate. His attacks are a little slower than the rest of the cast, which can put him in a lot of trouble. Again, he’s not hopeless and he can definitely kick some ass. It’s just that the others do it better.

To put this into actual tiers:
S: Knives
A: Ramona, Scott
B: Nega Scott
C: Kim
D: Stills

Mass Effect 2 squad mate tiers re-revisited.

S+: Miranda
S: Thane, Zaeed
A: Garrus, Samara, Kasumi
B: Grunt, Tali, Mordin, Jack
C: Jacob
D: Legion
F: Morinth

Kasumi loses utility once you realize that Flashbang Grenade is better than Shadow Strike under every circumstance. Grunt lacks firepower despite being impossible to kill. He’s just a massive damage-soaking thickie. Jack gets bumped up for being essentially the ultimate anti-Collector character once you do her loyalty mission. Typically, though, characters with good loyalty powers suffer until they’re loyal. Samara is an excellent example.

Anyone have any ideas on the new Golden Sun? I think Sveta’s the best overall, then Mathew, Karis, Eoleo, Rief, then the rest, but I’d love to hear others opinions.

I’m still playing through it, but Sveta is definitely top tier. Beast mode is beast.

I’ll totally belt tiers out for SBK1&2 next chance I get to play them.

From what I remember though, Shinobi and Damien are beastly in 1 & 2 in respect, and Jam’s probably the best non-unlocking character in both games. Linda was also really good from what I remember. That Dog guy in the second game sucked.

Give me a day or two, you got me in the mood for those games again.
