Tiers for non-fighting games?

I haven’t played Lufia 1, so I’m not too sure about that.

As for Lufia 2, you’re forced to use the same team throughout the game, aren’t you?
I’m just going to assume
A - Maxim
B - Selan, Dekar, Guy, Arty
C - Tia, Lexis (though I didn’t really use him)

I’d like to see someone elses opinion, but here’s my take on SO3 (Star Ocean 3: Till the end of Time)

S Tier - Cliff, Maria
A Tier - Mirage, Fayt, Peppitta
B Tier - Albel, Sophia, Nel, Roger
C Tier - Adray

most of it is right besides Sophia and Nel I believe. I haven’t seen a SO3 tier list in awhile let alone played it. Sophia has a lighting trap IIRC and Nel works in just about everything.

I would swap Cliff and Fayt’s positions. I believe Sophia is high on the list, too.

tbh i don’t think Fayt deserves S tier status. He’s mobile but he doesn’t have to damage potential and attack quickness of Cliff + Cliff’s Aerial assault skip cancel easily gets to 99999 damage before any other character. He’s quick, strong, and can do very good AOE damage with hammer of might which will be your god for the early stages of the game.

Ah, i forgot about Sophia’s lightning trap, but idk I’ve never really got a feel for Nel, I just heard that her Flying Guillotine and whirlwind attacks are top notch, but i felt like she could never do very good raw damage.

Fayt is just really good with nice ass skills. Also he has some silly properties on his moves. His full screen run when he goes to attack an enemy is invincible for example. Fayt’s side kick and dimension door are also really fucking good. Fayt is just solid all around.

Doesn’t matter to me though. Fayt and Cliff always roll together in my file and rape everything with stun lock combos and juggles and it’s sexy as fuck.

Don’t buy it used. All new copies of Dragon Age Origins come with a Shale Voucher.
Also, Dragon Age Ultimate edition has all the DLC.

But yeah, she is probably the best tank.

Red Knight and Industrialist are the best characters. King can be handy in Co-Op cause he can heal. Haven’t tried Necromancer.

There really aren’t that many good characters in Castle Crashers outside of the ones I’ve mentioned.

Uncharted 2 weapon tiers? From what I can gather, power weapons aren’t as good in this game as they are in a lot of other shooters.

FF9 TIERS

Tiers based on usefulness, how much damage character can dish, how they learn abilities, how they break the game, etc. keep in mind that in 9 the damage limit is 9999 and can never be exceeded beyond that.

God

Quina - When factoring everything above, this character is peeking brokenness. The moment you get Quina it’s just an immediate impact to the party. There’s a lot of people that don’t like Quina, but putting it into perspective it can do just about everything the other characters can do if not better. A powered up frog drop can dish out 9999 dmg, limit glove can dish out 9999 dmg, LV5 Death those Grand Dragons for tons of EXP (not to mention power up Freya’s DG Crest), mastering useful skills without AP, the list goes down. It’s regular attacks are unpredictable, sometimes frustrating. But once you get enough good Blu Mag spells you won’t even touch that Atk command. Quina’s trance isn’t very good, since most Blu Mag already have a set dmg counter.

Beatrix - If she was an actually party member say hello to the best character in the game, bar none! There’s no denying it, look at those abilities! Shock, Climhazzard, Holy, Stock Break, Life, tons of others already learned. She doesn’t need trance, she’s overpowered at LV30, I’d hate to see what she would look like at LV99, pure beast and a blast to play (ftm anyway)

Tops

Freya - Very useful. Why equip those auto regen-stones when she can cast regen on the WHOLE party. If Quina went on a Grand Dragon wipe-out this character becomes deadlier. Dragon Crest powers up the amount of Dragons the party kills, over 100 dragons = 9999 dmg every time for a mere 16 MP. Freya, being the games Dragoon, means that she can equip heavy armor. Jump commands are useful and even more useful in trance stages. Dragoon spells aren’t considered magic, but skills. So it can be used in places where magic are blocked (Oeilvert), overall nice ATK stat. She may not seem much at first but she’s one of the best up there and doesn’t require much setup to dish.

Zidane - Zidane is good but requires a lot of patience to build. Most abilities MUST be learned or he’ll be somewhere along the lines of mid/low tier. Soul Blade is very neat, especially on some weapons (sleep, petrify, confuse) and keep in mind factoring the 100% accuracy. Most of the whole game your gonna be using dual-bladed swords, almost never daggers if at all really. Thievery is the emphasis that must be considered, it’s one of those “take 9999 dmg every time” spells based on the speed stat and how much you stole. It takes a LONG time to power up, but when there you’ll be using this often. Being the games main character you have to use him, and he can steal some of the best weapons throughout the game. His trance is godly but shouldn’t be relied on much, just a solid if trained right.

Steiner - Steiner is pretty good if the player goes after his best weapons and armor. It takes A LOT of AP to learn his abilities though, and most of them you won’t even be using much. Early on in the game player will notice the Vivi/Steiner combo and will favor that until he gets shock/climhazzard/darkside/etc. He can equip tin armor, or toy armor I call it the games BEST armor hands down. Shock will take 9999 dmg every time, so will climhazzard when Steiner gets a high enough level. The weapons that allow these moves are well hidden though, and take a lot of work to get. Without them, Steiner is like Zidane looking at mid/low tier card. It gets worse if Vivi isn’t there for magic sword abilities, definietely dropped to low tier if that’s the case. Thunder Slash like NEVER hits lol, waste of time to learn.

Amarant Red Deadly. Simply put. I got him around the time I got the Kasier Knucks, omg. No Mercy is non-elemental! So use at hearts content, and lets talk about chakra and curse sweeeet. Countdown is useless since a lot of enemies are protected against doom but it’s there. Throwing Rising Suns, Wing Edges early on is too good. You can literally do that until Amarant’s ATK stat gets off the chain. Aura cast regen AND auto life, sweet. This character is that good and doesn’t take much time to build, and has one of the more useful trances out there. Makes an immediate impact the moment you get him. The only thing he lacks is being able to dish out a sure 9999HP attack.

Mid

Dagger Alexandros Garnet - The selling point to Garnet is that she has better summons than Eiko, but Eiko has better Wht Mag.
Dagger can’t really summon early in the game obviously, really makes me wonder why those commands are sitting there teasing me. It’s really what you prefer, the “healers are necessary” rule gets applied every time. With Quina getting White Wind though that’s not good for Eiko or Garnet. When she CAN summon though, watch out. Ark is deadly, it won’t guarantee 9999 every time but it’ll get up there and it’s on ALL opponents. Be careful though because shadow absorbers will just shrug at this attack for all its animation, I prefer Atomos with 99 amethysts or odin with 99 ores. At some point in this game her commands begin to fail, very annoying but must be considered. She doesn’t get holy either, there’s a lot of factors that prevent me from ranking her higher.

Vivi - Everybody loves Vivi, how can you not? But, he’s a character that’s…I dunno. He’s good but like nothing is set in stone or anything. Early in the game he’ll beast everything, but later on he starts to get favored for other hard hitters and becomes soft. Flare, Meteor, Bio, Comet, those are pretty good. Meteor has terrible accuracy for some reason, there’s doomsday but without proper preparation it can kill your own characters off for it hits EVERYTHING on the screen. Reflect bouncing is fun, Eiko Reflect all then have vivi bounce those spells off to the enemy. Other than that, ehh…well in trance he can double Blk Mag. Good early game, gets forgotten endgame. However, if you didn’t do any side quest he may very well be the best character on your team and depended upon.

Eiko - The selling point Eiko is that she’ll get better Wht Mag than Garnet, but Garnet well get better summoning. She’s the games PURE white mage, getting access to holy. Double Holy is beastly, but that’s only in trance. She gets Madeen, which rocks. Her and Garnet get the ribbon acc, which has always been good in many FF games. She can boost others ATK command, but has the lowest defense in the game I think. With Vivi it makes a fun pairing reflecting magic off to the enemy, she’s just a fun character to use nothing more. The “healers are necessary” rule gets taken a look at here, and Eiko certainly gets the job done in that department

Low

Marcus - The dreaded wasteland that is low tier. Marcus fits the bill, he was thrown in I guess to give the player more party members at certain points in the game. He can’t learn anything, can’t trance, he CAN steal though but for some reason I find more success stealing with Zidane. Players equip the best armor they have for him and guess what? He STEALS them!

Well, he doesn’t necessarily steal them they just forget to unequip by the time he says sayonara and becomes a NPC again. Fuck man, that happened to me once v__________v

Blank - See Marcus. He does have a cooler personality though, and he saves you from the evil forest!

Fail

Cinna - Fail. One hit and he’s a gone, and he doesn’t follow his bosses orders. Hard to imagine a more useless character.

aliensvspredator.net if I recall correctly.

Not too bad, but Amarant needs to be tops with Quina. You actually can do 9999 damage with Amarant with Coin Toss, but the level you have to raise him to in order to do that isn’t worth. Lacking 9999 damage doesn’t hurt him too much. You already have easy 9999 defense-ignoring attacks with Quina, Freya, and Zidane. His main asset is his versatility to be good for any party and in any situation. He also has the best base stats of all party members besides Zidane.

Eiko is better than Garnet because she’s much better at what she does than Garnet is at what she does. By the end of the game, Garnet’s summons also aren’t that useful since everybody has access to big damage. Eiko performs the role as a healer/support character much better than Garnet, making her more versatile than Garnet.
Double White Mage for her trance >>>> Garnet’s trance
Eiko also learns Full-Life, Esuna, Haste, and Might and Garnet doesn’t.
Eiko has a random chance of casting Phoenix for no cost when she’s KOed.

Vivi and Steiner are mid just because they are too one-dimensional. End game parties are based around versatility because the 9999 damage cap is really too easy to hit with most characters.
Vivi is easily the best character early in the game, but sadly he’s probably the most obsolete by the end of the game. If there wasn’t a 9999 damage cap in the game he could possibly keep his top spot, because Focusing to 99 Magic and Reflect-All shenanigans is ridiculously buff but simply overkill with the damage cap.

Best party is Amarant, Quina, and Zidane/Freya/Eiko depending on what the situation presents (if you don’t need healing/support, you can skip Eiko).

Oh yea coin toss forgot about that, Zidane has lucky seven but I only once got 7777HP damage with it. Eiko is the better of the two I also agree there, but honestly I only find Quina the only mage that’s useful endgame. Enemies in FF9 all have low HP, even bosses and/or super bosses. This is probably because the DMG cap is 9999, but seriously after 2 rounds most enemies are already dead for healing to be essential. The enemies in Memoria who give the highest EXP of around 10,000 (factoring all party members survived) all die from one or two hit 9999HP guaranteed moves. Battles end too quickly for the enemy to amount any threat to the party, and should it happen white wind has that covered. Ozma, for all its difficulty it presents, doesn’t have a tremendous amount of HP we’ve seen previous FF super-bosses have.

Eiko’s advantages over Garnett are somewhat misleading. Auto-Haste is superior over just casting on a party member, so you wouldn’t waste 4 turns doing that getting everybody hasted. Might is somewhat irrelevant in a game where characters can guarantee 9999HP DMG every round, they aren’t spending a whole lot of MP to do that either. Full Life is very useful but Auto-Life seems to be more preferred in this game once builds start becoming a factor and too much, you can equip auto-life but you can also learn the move in Quina’s Blu Mag set. Esuna isn’t really needed when you can equip things such as “jelly” or “body temp” to protect you from status effects. The only real thing Eiko has over Garnett to put in total perspective is Holy, and Double Holy will amount up serious damage (around 16,000-18,000)

This is the reason why Steiner gets the nod on my teams, for all holy’s worth it is very damaging, but not a guarantee 9999HP damage move even at a high level. For about the same MP price, I can cast shock or climhazzard and be more assertive. Trances are unreliable in this game, Eiko may trance but the enemies could very well be dead after she does it, wasting it’s potential to amount to anything.

Freya and Zidane are still both better than Steiner, so I don’t really see your point comparing Steiner to Eiko when they don’t serve the same purpose.
Eiko is only useful at endgame for bosses you need extra healing and support for. She’s also more useful in the mid-game than Garnet as a healer because of Might, Haste, etc. before they become obsolete

Steiner peaks in the mid-game, but the rest of the party catches up once they get their abilities.
Amarant, Quina, Zidane, and Freya are all way better than him in the end-game. Shock and Climhazzard are a waste of time and MP. His being in the party is a waste of the slot that could be filled by one of the top 4 who all do something besides just damage. Even Freya, whose Jump is mostly useless by endgame, can cast Regen on the whole party and has a 9999-damage defense ignoring attack.

Your right that’s two different perspectives and Steiner (for what it’s worth) isn’t an extreme magic user. After two rounds of shock or climhazzard his MP should be almost completely drained without some sort of supporter (ethers/etc). However, I still think he is useful enough. You will be relying on magic sword abilities early in the game along with Vivi’s magic. And as you say, he gets better as the game follows. While he does become irrelevant towards the end, he his more than useful than say Vivi who has trouble reaching the DMG cap.

There’s a lot of people who play FF9 that don’t like Quina or simply don’t understand its potential, without Quina Freya is gonna have trouble powering up that DGC since he’s the only member who can wipe out Grand Dragons early. You could simply target some other dragon in the game like some on the lost continent or a draco zombie, but what’s the point really? It then begs the question of Quina being the only usable mage ingame, I don’t doubt how good Eiko is she is a fantastic supporter but still not coming close to Quina.

Auto Life > Full-Life
Frog Drop > Holy
Angel Snack > Esuna
Mighty Guard > Protect/Shell

I can go on but some of the more noted ones, Curaga > White Wind but that’s not saying a lot really. Possibly the best party of Zidane/Quina/Amarant/Freya gets the nod, without the mention of Eiko. As you say certain situations call for different things but I think I can rape everything in the game with that team alone.

Just for shits and giggles, I’ll tier the special Infected in Left 4 Dead 2

S Tier

  • Smoker - They have the most opportunities for 1-hit KOs in the game. Their tongue also has really long range and good recharge time and their “noisy tell” isn’t as obvious as other SI. The only disadvantage they have is that they’re the huge targets since they’re the tallest SI in the game, even more than Chargers and Tanks.

Spitter (Scavenge Mode) - Setting gas cans on fire = WIN

A Tier

  • Jockey - Jockeys rock. They have the easiest time guiding survivors into hazards such as fire or Spitter goo. Jockeys are also the only SI that can force a survivor into a Witch. Another perk with Jockeys is that they’re very hard to hit when riding a survivor, so can cause accidental friendly fire.

  • Boomer - Their stats are the worst of the SI, but the fact that they can control their puke spray allows them to cover a whole cluster of survivors easily. This SI is the best at causing chaos because they summon hordes of normal Infected effectively blind survivors. Unfortunately, Boomers take a long time to recharge their puke.

B Tier

  • Charger - In some stages (ie. The Parish finale) they’re king, but in other situations, they’re useless. They are also vulnerable if they miss a charge and they’re huge targets. Their charge requires the survivors to be in a tight cluster to get the most out of it.

  • Spitter (outside of Scavenge) - All they’re good for is a joint attack with Smokers and Jockeys or to slow survivor progress. Their spit takes a long time to recharge, so if you miss, then you may as well get yourself killed to get a new SI.

C Tier

  • Hunter - These guys suck. They’re the only SI that have no control capability and they’re only good for doing damage, which any SI can do in ample amounts. Their 25 dmg pounce is the strongest attack in the game, next to 1 hit KOs. These guys are basically outclassed completely by the Jockey, especially since Hunters are loud as hell and give themselves away when you crouch. I also love how there is a 1 second delay before they do damage, giving another player time to shove the Hunter off a pounced survivor.

Total Ass Tier

  • Tank - Unlike in L4D1, there are very few stages in which the Tank has throwables, relegating them to using their fists to do damage. Also, any decent player can solo a Tank if they have a gun. I’m really reaching to find something good to say about the Tank, but their theme music can drown out every other SI’s “noise tell”

In honor of the X-men Arcade Game’s release on PSN/XBLA, do we have a tier list for it? I seem to remember seeing one in this thread once a long time ago but I couldn’t find it.

Top Tier: Colossus
Mid Tier: Everyone else
Shit Tier: Cyclops

Nightcrawler as God tier then everything else is right pretty much.

What makes Nightcrawler and Colossus so much better than everyone else?
