Even the Evo staff knows this game is ass and wants to get it over with asap. Now make Marvel 3/5.
If they aren’t going to do 1v1 they might as well just can it.
I’d prefer having both 1v1 and 2v2. Obviously its a time issue, though. It’d be nice if they gave you more match customization options…
yeah I’m glad no one cares about the piece of shit tournament ‘SBO’ or some shit. team tournaments what a scam lol.
The Wiz has spoken, SFxT will be 2v2 for EVO. What does this mean for all the other tournaments leading up to EVO? Will they still be 1v1 or will they start doing 2v2 as well?
It’d be a little weird for players to spend the entire season playing 1v1 at tournaments to then play 2v2 at EVO. You think that other tournaments should change formats as well?
I know Seasons Beatings is going to be 2v2 only.
didn’t know that, but it’s good to know. It’ll be nice to see how it plays out before evo.
p.s. is that Kanti from FLCL in your av? badass.
I think it’s unfortunate that they’re not willing to give the game a chance in its full capacity. Makes me think they’d turn off X-factor when Marvel 3 came out, if Capcom gave them an option
Yup! Thanks!
Christ…2v2 in SFxT =/= 2v2 SBO style. When I say 2v2, I’m talking about from a gameplay perspective, not from a tournament format perspective.
CEO will still do SFxT 1v1 at least: http://ceogaming.org/blog/36-blog/162-sfxtrulesceo
If there’s a healthy selection of both formats in the tournaments, the EVO decision doesn’t necessarily mean SFxT will forever be a 2v2 game.
We already have a thread for discussing this, merging with that.
2v2 is interesting to me because it does actually require some IRL synergy and planning. Just like in tennis, you can’t just throw two good singles players together and expect them to make a good team - sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
2v2 will still be mad competitive, but distinct from 1v1. TOs should try their best to have both if they can.
I think team work and synergy will make the game much more interesting and enjoyable to watch and participate in. Unfortunate that there are a lot of people angry about it. 2v2 tag teams are the thing that i was most hyped about in both MK9 and SFxT. Glad at least one of those two games is seeing serious competitive use o fthe feature.
And why is that different in terms of who responsibility? You’re not full responsible for your team’s victory either way, and its much more likely you’ll never have to play in 2v2 teams than in 2v2 SFxT.
What is the deal with people and this “You could never play!” thing?
If you pick a scummy partner, then sure you’ll never play. If you pick a good, reliable, and capable partner your combos will REQUIRE that you both play and work well together. The most damaging combos in SFxT are Switch Cancel combos – I’m pretty sure that means being efficient and effective REQUIRES you both play over the course of a match. The fear of never playing only comes up if you are, or partner yourself with, a complete scrub.
In SBO, despite its format, when you play a match, you’re solely responsible for whether or not you win or lose that particular match. The 1v1 aspect is still maintained from a gameplay standpoint. The same cannot be said for 2v2 in SFxT. Once again, this is from a gameplay perspective, not from a tournament standings perspective.
As I’ve said before, I like the idea of 2v2. I just really wish that we could have the opportunity of seeing who is best individually and who functions the best as a team. Just a shame only one can be chosen.
Despite my disappointment with this decision, i suppose we should just be thankful that they announced it so early so everybody gets the word that this game’s been ditched and not to bother practicing it. Kind of incredible after all the advertising and hyping this site has done for the game, but hey, this shit’s about money and sponsorship and the opinions of fake youtube celebrities now, not competition.
It’s hard to believe that this is truly just an issue of time too. If they don’t think the game is any good that it won’t have many entrants anyway… right? Also they could, oh i don’t know, start it slightly earlier? Maybe go “old school” and not give a fuck about streaming it? Stream losers hate it anyway right so what do they care?
I’m assuming that they are trying to condense the number of players because of the high influx of registrations for the game and cutting it in half with 2v2 is actually an option… SFxT fills a distinct gap in the space between SSF4 and UMvC3 for a lot of people…
i dont see how people can say watching 2v2 will be more hype
the actually matches are going to look exactly the same for the viewer lol
and they defo wont be putting mics on the players and having comentry and game audio in one go so thats a no go aswell
adding two extra players isnt going to make watching it more hype
I’m not a fan… but i suppose it will be interesting to see how it turns out. If top players switch characters to compose the best team possible, i wont mind as much. I really don’t want this to turn to some buddy-buddy ‘side event’ type of tournament.
As long as we learn this game properly, which we will.
