So, because it’s a different format it means they don’t give a shit about it? That’s a pretty huge assumption, and a particularly pretentious one at that. I’m still not seeing how having a partner makes the matches any less legitimate or competitive. It’s not scramble mode, they aren’t playing anything that’s close to Brawl so don’t cry over milk that’s not even been spilt yet.
Not that it matters, but the extra ‘hype’ would come from the reactions teammates have with each other as they celebrate or as they kick their asses handed to them.
What? There’s a huge difference between your friends watching you win and lose, and then your friends being a part of the reasons you win or lose, those are completely different contexts.
That’s the thing I don’t understand, how exactly is 2v2 forgetting what a tourney is like? There’s no way that one person on each team is going to be doing the majority of the leg work, not in this game, and if they do then that just proves both of the players on one team weren’t very good in the first place. Tag outs, coordinating your combos, that all reflects on skill and the amount of time these teams are going to be practicing their stuff together.
yer but watching its going to be the same that’s my point you could show me a 2v2 match and a 1v1 and few people could honestly tell the difference
so if you think 1v1 gameplay is boring you are going to find 2v2 boring aswell , game is still the same its not exactly going to be more hype because the players high 5 every now and again
Like I said, not that hype levels even matter because they don’t. I have no doubt that if you didn’t like the game before this isn’t exactly going to change your mind. My problem is people saying that having a 2v2 match, especially a game where tagging is a constant, somehow will let one team member lean on the other and makes the match less competitive.
If anything, you could say that Team Matches like the ones we’ve had forever and a day at tournaments are even more prone to player carrying. Look at the Final Round team tournaments, some teams would get OCV’d or reverse OCV’d by a player and I’ve never seen anyone complain about that format. Obviously it’s a legitimate one as every major player from singles was also in teams.
Fine, I’ll be the idiot to say 2v2 Cross Assault is more hype than 1v1 because then it’s not totally useless to use. Beyond that, the uncertainty of tags leads to dropped tag combos that make for some otherwise unlikely comebacks. That is hype that can be seen in the match. On the other hand, Footsies and solo combos may get better because you focus your gameplay on only one character during the match. There can also be disparities between meter management that are visible to the viewer (a guaranteed K.O. is lost because of an EX that was used just moments ago).
Can you explain a little more? I hardly think Floe would have a problem with the way his Rufus uses meter compared to his Jin in 1v1 unless he has a split personality or some shit. And no, Cross Assault with the CPU putting itself in constant danger is nothing like having you and your partner doing mixups/tick throw setups behind the opponent.
watching 2v2 will be almost the same but more sloppy since people will be dropping combos or not tagging in other than that its about the same, now playing 2v2 is actually different alot different its wayy more fun but I still wish there was a option for 1v2
I’m really surprised by the 2v2 mode decision. I mean, sure, it’ll create some extra team drama, and we might see some new Cross Assault technology, but as a whole, I think this is a bad move. It feels like they’re relegating the entire competition to what should have been a side tournament.
As a spectator, I’d rather see individual players doing all they can with the teams that they’ve practiced. In a team tournament, player identity gets lost in team names, and player skill gets muddled as one player wins/loses for the other. It makes it difficult to take any of it seriously.
As a player, I get all my practice from online matches whenever I can manage to get an hour or two in. I don’t have a good way to organize regular in-person training with another player. My life/schedule just won’t allow it these days. Until this announcement, I had actually been giving some thought to making the trip to Evo this year for the first time since 2004. I’m not sure it would have worked out, but now I’m not even interested.
Good call on the gems, though. They don’t add anything meaningful.
cvs2 is a team game. kof is a team game. hell capcom wont even patch the 360 co-op. it’s not even going to be on the pc version. playing 2v2 is an option just like in mk, dont fool yourself you know it’s a 1v1 game. most people play this 1v1 and you know it. there are other games that is design for multi-player competion as oppose to 1v1 competition like fps. there are others games that have multi-player co-op, but still run 1v1. SC/madden has 2v2. imagine if they made SC/madden 2v2 from now on leaving out 1v1.
whatever they should just run scramble mode cause it’s more ‘hype.’
When I say “team game” I mean that its designed for Co-op. MK9 has it, it was just never embraced because no one ever held tournaments for the format as far as I know. 360 -can- do co-op, by the way, it just can’t do it online with two people on one console.
I don’t recall CvS2 nor KoF13 being co-op games, as a side note…And SC? Starcraft? What does that have to do with anything…?
I mean, I respect and largely agree with the displeasure of the removal of 1v1, but some of you guys are taking this whole thing to extremes.
Why does everything have to be a giant controversy in the FGC?
As a person posting in this thread I’d rather see people accept the fact that there isn’t enough time in a weekend to play this game 1v1 b2of3. The matches take too long it’s not possible. 1v1 best of 1 is way more ridiculous. With Gems yeah maybe you can eliminate some of the time out victories but then you have unban gems and then you’re back at square one. 2v2 is a REALLY smart alternative to letting Evo go on forever.
LOL as opposed to when? You realize we’re talking about Magic: the Gathering Street Fighter vs Kuro one Button Infinites Beta edition right?
just pass your controller when you lose your character. im pointing out that there are games with co-op mode, but still run 1v1 in tourneys because we want to see who the best player is, not who the best team is. fighters are like this. im pointing out that starcraft/madden are like fighters where people want to see who the best player is while fps/league of legends is not. sure there things like norcal vs socal, ec vs wc, US vs japan, but the main thing was always WHO IS THE BEST FUCKING PLAYER. hell mk has co-op, why isnt that 2v2?
It has a couple co-op modes, but I’d say calling it a “team game” is going a bit far. Using one of the bonus modes for the biggest tournament around seems pretty goofy. Though, admittedly, 2v2 is a way better choice than say, trial mode, or scramble mode.
