Hey guys, I just wanted to open a discussion about SFXT’s tournament format at Evo.
As anyone who has been on the front page recently is aware, the guys behind EVO opted for SFXT to have a 2v2 tournament format.
I understand lots of people are hype about 2v2. I am a little as well. However I feel like the game needs to have a 1v1 showcase as well. I have 2 characters I am super psyched to pit against the world’s best and now to have it whittled to only 1 is pretty disappointing.
Just, from a player’s perspective, I’m really hoping there’s something we can do or organize (Side tournament?) to have a showcase of the game as a 1v1.
Yes it has its merits as a 2v2. There are plenty of new dynamics that the fighting game community deserves to be a part of (It will most likely be hype as fuck). But I really hope something can be done for a 1v1 as well… I’ll admit, my argument is pretty weak, and kind of selfish, but I REALLY just want to have a legit tournament for 1v1, like old school style as well.
So yeah, talk at me. Hopefully an Admin can come in and share some thoughts as well.
Forcing players to team up makes them play half the matches.
With 6 games this year, they must be anxious.
Hence banning all gems too, no wasting time on selecting.
Plus, since we all love some good drama, ‘player not making the tag’ will surely cause something funny.

This is just amazing, I can’t believe this. I could have bought and practiced so many other fighting games, and I choose the one game that ends up being a 2v2 tournament. Fucking typical.
Okay so KOF13 here I come! I just hope I can trade my used SFxTekken copy for a KOF13 copy for at least a small discount…

The only good thing about this is that it will be entertaining to watch this tournament. If I was feeling malicious, I would very much like to see Scumbag stickthrowing resurfacing in a slightly more violent manner in this 2v2 tourney.
Dude, they still have like another few more months before evo, They will annouce 1v1 that standard in any game. So unsure why you are getting all rangled up over a 2v2 being annouced and saying you want to trade it in for KOF and dissapointed over you a game that gets 2v2 being annouced.
I can agree with this, 2v2 will undoubtedly make for a more interesting tournament. Also this doesn’t exclude SFxT as a singles game after this EVO season, once the game has evolved a bit.
:eek: If you think about it a little and are really honest with yourself, almost anybody can come to the conclusion that Cross has no place at EVO unless it’s 2v2.
We already have 2012 in the SF slot. Marvel already has the solo “team game” slot. So many other games as well, making EVO super big this year and I can already see the logistical issues from this far away. Aside from that, though, this game truly makes its mark as a team-based game that makes use of multiple players. Teams adds an entirely refreshing dimension to the game, makes use of some mechanics that are inconsequential otherwise, and will make for some really exciting moments.
It’s not so much a question of why EVO chose to make this game a 2v2 format, but rather, what reasons they had not to. Very few, if any at all. The game has a niche and this really exploits it for the betterment of the game’s future. I only hope that other tournaments will adopt this as the main format of the game leading up to EVO and possibly beyond.
