Thoughts on EVO Tournament Format

Interesting.

Yeah I will also enter 2v2, and side tournament, most def, i’m in there (It’s gonna need judges lol). But yes, I’ll support the game in any way possible.

I dont have a prob getting a team mate but the fact is I rather go solo they should do ttt2u style 1v1,2v2, or 1v2 or just plain 1v1 because 2v2 doesnt really tell who is the best, I wish they would just make 2v2 east vs west exhibition hopefully they change the rules if not guess I will just train for sc5,umvc3,and maybe kof

If you don’t own a console and you can only practice at your buddies house then how are you paying to get into vegas or even Evo? Lol.

Hitch a ride!

I feel they should have adopted an “anything goes” style where both teams and single players play together.

This will probably end up being allowed anyway

Dude you can tag yourself in, derp!

Also according to your guys logic, football should be 1v1 so we can see who the skilled player is.

If you have two xboxs you can do breifing room which is training add them to your party and make them a partner. Otherwise just do regular training mode.

Potentially sabotage my own team? If the dude doing well I’m not going to tag myself in.

Uhhh, if they are ending a combo or land a hit with low health, switch yourself in and let them recover. How is that sabotage?

I agree that this would be interesting. But if they give the option to play as a single player, 99% of the players will decide not to partner up.

About needing a partner for the SFxT Tourny at EVO…

Also, can’t wait to see how that Daigo/Wong team will work out. :sunglasses:

What? No. Football, basketball, hockey, etc. have always been about depending on your teammates. Part of the lure of fighting games has always been the sole responsibility of the individual, not the team. I don’t see what’s so hard to understand about that. 2v2 is a cool thing to have at EVO, but 1v1 should always be an option because that’s what Street Fighter, Tekken, and fighting games were built upon.

The only issue with 2v1 would be that the 2-player team would have access to something the single guy wouldn’t - controllable cross assault. I guess the tradeoff is that they have to develop IRL synergy?

I’d still do it, lol. I’M HYPE FOR THIS GAME.

I love this. The FGC has been every man (and woman) for themselves since… Forever.

This totally flips that on its head. Requires teamwork, coordination and strategy. And the ability to vocalize and share in planning/practice.

But… No gems?

Am I the only one that realizes that Daigo and Justin Wong could enter the SFxT Tourny as a TEAM? Daigo’s Ryu and Wong’s Rufus together in a team would be an absolute nightmare in my opinion…

there are team sports and there are solo sports. so according to your logic we should have a tag team boxing match to see who’s the best boxer is.

Again,** I don’t think the fgc is about every man/woman for themselves. It’s about the competition**, and that can come in the form of 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and so on. Normally it comes in the form of 1v1, because that’s simply how the games are played. But if a game offers you a unique opportunity for 2v2 competition, I think it adds an interesting dynamic to the competition.
Another thing, winning a tournament doesn’t prove who the best player is or the most skilled player is, it proves who the best player is that day (or weekend). At EVO last year, Fuudo won the tournament, but does that mean he was absolutely the best player? His match with Poongko could have gone either way if I recall correctly. Latif reached the final and for all intents and purposes could have won, would that have meant he was the best? What if poongko had won? Forget having won, Poongko beat Daigo and placed better than him, did that prove he was absolutely better than Daigo? But didn’t Daigo beat him in a first to ten or something like that sometime after? My point is, anyone in that top 8 could have beaten someone else in that top 8 on any given day. When you get to that level of play, the margin of skill between each player is so slim, that it’s more a matter of who’s feeling hot on that day, who’s got the momentum, the confidence.
It’s like tennis (I’m sorry if you don’t watch or care for tennis). The number 1 player in the world is Djokovic, but Federer won the year end Championship last November where the top 8 played, does that make him the best player? No, but he was the best player in that tournament. Anyone in the top 8 (more realistically the top 3 or 4) in the world can win a major tennis event, but that only proves he was the best player for that tournament, because anyone of those players are skilled enough to beat one another and win these tournaments, just like with fighting games. If anything, if you want to judge someone’s skill, you should look at their consistency rather than just one main event (whether it be Evo, or sbo, or whatever).

It’s not, if someone is at low health, ball-hogging or not, its in your best interest to tag them out.

Except that SFxT is a 2v2 tag game. You’re actually saying that you should play a tag team championship match like a solo boxing match. Technically, the game was designed for this format.

Holy shit, I can’t stop laughing at this.
