I don’t think so. I think the strategy of 2v2 makes the game a whole lot more exciting. 1v1 is just kind of…boring. (not really terrible…but boring). When you have a partner and you guys go over all the possible situations in the game and the strategy for all of them, it becomes a lot more of an in depth and thrilling experience. You can’t compare playing with a random partner kind of coming up with things as they go along with actually having a partner who knows the ins and outs of both characters and knows all situations to tag cancel, cross art, super, abc chain, and knows the best ends to each beginning. Of course…this could also cause a few arguments too…and I’m sure it will.
And yeah, infiltration has a very good Hakan. I guess he doesn’t really feel comfortable using him against some of the best players in the world yet. Hopefully at EVO!
I’m not. I know what 2v2 is. If someone can lose without even having to be tagged in, I don’t equate that to fully measuring someone’s skill level. Games can happen where 1 player won’t even press a button because its either not necessary or his partner sucked and couldn’t tag him in. But you can still do Cross Assault mode using :d::db::mp::mk: and then proceeed to spend the next 5 seconds trapping someone and setting up broken mixups because instead of a braindead AI controlling the other character, its another good player. Its a broken mode in 2v2 pair play.
except cross assault is only useful for rounding out the two heath and it not worth 3 bars unless you can trap them in the corner. no where near broken and way to hard to trap someone for how it works. it way better to use that meter for tag combos and other things.
plus the team coming in and the first teammate getting the hit is just part of finding a good teammate. that true for anything that requires a teammate in any game like tf2 or left 4 dead. nothing new
Clearly you’ve never played pair play and used Cross Assault. The setup is easy. Once they’re knocked down, activate cross assault, have one player cross up the other player, surround him, do 50% damage. Its not hard to trap at all.
Except for people that don’t have partners to play and practice with in real life, which means a lot of potential players are going to get snuffed right off the bat, which is kills interest in a brand new fighter. This game shouldn’t be included in the roster if it’s because of time constraints. Do it right or don’t do it at all, this is just a dumb half assed attempt by the Evo staff. The tournament patch would allow for gems to be used, players will have stepped up their game and timeouts would be less common.
Bad move. 2v2 is great fun and all, but this game didn’t even get a chance to grow. It’s been assigned to a sideshow because people didn’t think some stream for the game was “hype” enough. Not that my presence or money mattered, but i was planning to go to evo again for the first time since '04 this year to play SFxT. i won’t be now.
So im guessing everyone thinks this game suck so bad that they giving it the 2v2 party treatment. I just feel bad for people who normally play this game by themselves being force to team up. And for those who say they eventually will find a partner at evo, I think it will be hard cause this game forces ur partner to tag cancel out. This would lead to sloppy played if you team up with randoms or a partner whom you havn’t spent enough time training with. Well anyway, the game will die out eventually cause so much hate has already been put in this game.
Agree’d that SFxT player base = Instant Gratification right now, but I do think 2v2 makes for some very interesting changes to the mechanics of the game. It makes Cross Assault not random for one. Both partners could practice mixup/throw setups beforehand, and attempt a specific “play” during the real match.
As others have said, this move alienates people whereas 1v1 makes it open for anyone in the world to join in without worrying about having to find a partner. I love the idea of 2v2, but to have it completely replace 1v1 is screwed up. The team dynamic is great, but there’s plenty of players out there (myself included) that prefer being completely responsible for whether or not we win or lose. Yes there’s the option to play 1v1 with AE and Marvel, but why rob of us the opportunity to do so in a brand new game that hasn’t been fleshed out yet? Doubles in Tennis can co-exist with Singles. I don’t see why the same can’t be done here.
It’s funny, many members of the FGC were angry with Capcom saying “There will not be a no-gem mode in SFxT.” Now we have EVO, an event built from members of the same FGC, basically telling us “There will be no 1v1 SFxT event at EVO.”
2v2 should be a side tournament that’s for fun and hype and 1v1 should be the standard because that’s what fighting games is about, 1v1. At this rate, Mario Party 15 will be a main game at Evo 2020.
Very well spoken, I agree 100%. Just sent them an e-mail asking if they’re allowing 1v1 entrants so we’ll see.
If we keep making it clear to them that this negatively effects certain people who plan on being a part of their event, then hopefully we can open up some other possibilities.
I still think that 2v2 should be a side event, sure all the top players have their partner in mind, but what about everyone else? The people who’s main partner might not be able to travel? It might seems mall, but that could turn out to be a lot of people.
