Just looking over Thor changelog in umvc3, and I think that if they have reduced the overall frames of mighty strike, reduced the time it takes to fully charge h ms and h ms, made mighty punish invincible from frame one and also increased the time thor can move around before the opponent gets up after mighty punish, Thor will definately move up in tiers. Thor will go from hard to get in on zoners, to one of the best rush downs with mighty strike. In fact three mighty strikes + an 8 way air dash is scary good for Thor to move around the screen with. If what they said about mighty punish is true, hopefully he is able to followup mp with an otg assist and continue his combos. I also heard that they inproved the hitboxes on his standing l., his j.l and his mighty smash. I really hope they did improve his gothic on mighty smash. Maybe now it Will be more useful as an anti air and not get beat by dive kicks.
It would have to be a little faster and less negative on block for that to happen. Otherwise, tis not the case.

unfortunately the allmighty dive kick beat a lot of dp’s so I guess I can’t be too down on thor, but still I want my Thor more gdlk!

I was rockin’ a Thor/Arthur team for a bit before Doom became my knight in shining armor, but I’d gladly go back to it just to make that happen. With my Thor/Strange/Nova team, it might go like Mighty Punish -> Mighty Thunder -> Astral Magic/Gravimetric Blaster Yeah, I can dig it.
Just makes me wonder if I could Mighty Punish, OTG assist or even gasp… Mighty Punish, Mighty Smash… That may be a bit OP though.
They should have also made L mighty smash be invincible and hit overhead. As it is currently, it useless. It’s ONLY made for might smash>mighty thunder. At least making L mighty smash invincible makes it legit for a quick-fix damage combo. It gives mighty thunder actual use and with less damage scaling, mighty smash L>mighty thunder would do over 500k for nothing. Just another option.

The only good use I seen for this move is l.ms x mighty thunder x dhc. It’s a nice way to get thor out.
But mighty thunder shouldn’t just be about “getting out” or DHCing. It should just not suck. I only use it to OTG and kill whiffed assist. Other than that, it’s just horrible.
I use mighty thunder as a dhc after landing airthrow with cap in the corner so i can x favor kill the last character >___> srsly. LOL
I wouldnt rly count on it, zoning is gonna get much stronger in umvc3 and air dashes have been slowed down (not sure if this happened to thor though since his AD is already slow) and mighty strike isnt THAT good for getting in if there’s a big distance between you. So its going to be even harder to get in on zoners now, this is probably the thing i hate most about umvc3, we dont need more powerful zoning in a game like this imo.
I just hope that they havent increased the total frames of mighty spark L since its his best long range option.
i guess with the overall weakened xfactor, thor certainly needed a healthy dose of improvements. seems like they loosened the shackles enough to balance out his overall game with the new direction, but still kept the essence of the original character design…a head bussa. haha
I don’t think they nerfed the distance mighty strike travels, they just reduced the start up and recovery frames. They also reduced the time it takes to fully charge his moves. As far as mighty spark goes I hear they improved the hitboxes and reduced the startup. One thing that wasn’t mentioned, I hope they did something useful with his mighty speech cancels. If they made his mighty speech special cancelable or jump cancelable, then perhaps we could see more variations of comboes, perhaps even some more mighty huricaine setups. It could also make it possible to cover whiffed or blocked mighty smash by cancelling it with mighty speechxx l. Mighty spark. This would also make Thor one of the best batteriesin the game.
I know they didnt but Mighty strike’s distance isnt that good to begin with so you still have to slowly make your way through against a zoner as opposed to other moves like teleports or charging star (might have slow recovery but its very fast and has a lot of range).
And even though the official change log only mentioned the hitbox and start up buffs on mighty spark, one of the user posts following the umvc3 changes mentioned that the active frames on the spark lasts longer. So if for example the start up was reduced by 2 frames and the active frames were increased by like 4 then the whole move will last longer and would be slower when it comes to rapid firing mighty spark L. But no way to tell if this is true yet since it didnt come from the official change log and its not the kind of change that can be easily noticed unless there was a big increase in the active frames (which is very unlikely).
Omg, Cap’s charging star is so good! I was playing avenger themed teams last night online and wow, it was so easy to charging star and hyper charging star on reaction. Plus he got awsome buffs and great costumes in ultamate too! Character buffs like his, ryu, mags, dorm… This is why I think that improving Thors basics is only a good start. He needs more moves!

Not THAT easy, especially on his since it sends the opponent up like 50 feet making HCS harder to hit. But yes, that’s why I said Mighty Strike should be like Charging Star. Cap has every answer to zoners.

Yeah mags got three new moves. He got a move called repulsion that pushes you away, a move called attraction that pulls you toward him, and a move that pulls you back down to the ground called… gravity or something… idk, but yeah these moves dont cause damage, but affect you full screen whether you block or not.
Pretty sure that was a joke because in spite of the repulsion, attraction, and gravitation, his main stuff got nerfed, and those new moves can be wave-dashed through by a good bit of the cast.
mags didnt get hit that hard, from what we’ve heard he still has very powerful combos, i mean i never rly learned how to do any of his loop combos but i can still get over 500K without a super in vanilla. And his disrupter still seems fairly fast even after the nerf. If his new move is as good as ppl say it is then it wouldnt be surprising if he’s high/top tier in umvc3.
