Nice stuff man. I just finished reading the Walt Simonson run and have already read the new stuff including Ages of Thunder. Was looking for something else to check out.
Nicely said. I’m a huge Thor fan but it kind of doesn’t make sense anymore. They should’ve maybe put it in his character in the first place. But adding another projectile to the rest of his projectiles really doesn’t make sense.
Thor: Godstorm is a nice 3 part mini-series.
Thor by Walter Simonson Omnibus is THEE must pick up if your a Thor fan. 1200 pages of the bible on Thor. About $70 on amazon.
Marvel’s Siege Event from last years event is mostly a Thor story.
Thor by Kieron Gillen Ultimate Collection picks up right after J.Micheal Straczynski’s Thor run done properly. Great short run. Availble in December.
And like LegendaryDJ posted for Thor reads, here’s another site with some great stuff:http://comics.ign.com/articles/116/1166153p1.html
Siege was hella hype. I’m surprised that Sentry hasn’t been added to umvc3. Him combined with the void, not even Thor was able to stop.
Thanks for the tips guys, I’ll be looking through them in coming days.
Thor and Loki Blood Brothers the art is amazing. Mostly focuses on Loki though.
Even if its going a bit off topic here is my Thor collection
^signed the omnibus inside as well.
By Odin’s Beard thank you Capcom. My Asguardian brothers in 3 weeks they shall feel our might!!
Nice collection Kza!
J.Micheal Straczynski’s Thor run is really good, as is Siege. I’m currently waiting on the Fear Itslef TPB which should be good
I approve of thee Odinson collection.
Aye verily.
But isn’t that run about him in Oaklahoma trying to rebuild Asgard? I keep hearing about his run, but the idea turns me off. I can’t imagine it feeling like I’m reading Cap’s Winter Soldier Saga, or Iron Man’s Extremis stories. Correct me if I’m wrong.
While capcom has doneth thee well by buffing the Son of Odin. I cannot helpeth that the prince of Asgard has not been fitted with a super that sheaths thee from the threat of random supers. Though I supposeth that blessing him with the greatest of vitality in yond game does compensate for such a short hand. (I’m gonna start typing like this in the Thor forums, makes things more entertaining here).
However, it must be understood that thee not mistaketh thine fellow Asgardian for an ungrateful fool. The evil doers such as the man who dons clothing as black as night with glasses which hide his crimson eyes, the man who carries claws and harbours all his opponents to be “unacceptable”, as well as the man who incessantly informs thee to never blink (someone gets 10 points if they can figure out who I’m taking about :3), shall all feel the wrath of Asgard’s most powerful warrior. HAVE AT THEE VILLAINS!!!
Lol. Getting all Stan Lee-like writing.
And yes, JMS’s Thor run is technically rebuilding Asgard on Oaklahoma…but don’t let the idea through you off. It’s amazingly well written. It picks up where Thor died from Ragnorok, and is reborn in the his current Coipel-inspired look. What makes it amazing (aside from the Oliver Coipel’s art) is that this is one of the most grounded, humanized Thor ever seen, so it’s quite the opposite from say Simonson’s run. Simonson’s run is the best look on Thor’s Norse mythology and taking it to the zenith of that kind of caliber. JMS’s makes Thor something I always wanted him to be represented as: wise. He’s very calm and open to idealogies throughout the run, and he see’s Loki as a trouble maker to a fault, and wishes not to even listen to what he has to say half the time, knowing Loki is not to be trusted. No matter what.
And yes, Thor still kicks majory ass when he NEEDS to, not just getting angry and destroying things. Considering Ironman was the most hated comic character back in 2006 and 07…it’s profound to see Thor threatened back (yep. Not even welcomed back) by Tony and Thor literalty giving Tony a piece of his mind about Civil War.
I gotta warn you though. JMS material is “slow burn” material, so it takes time building to something. And the only negative about it (IMO) is the lackluster ending to JMS’s run. It doesn’t end properly at all, and leaves you hanging (because JMS didn’t want to continue writing Thor leading up the Siege event, so he left eruptly). And that’s why I recommanded in my list “Thor by Kieron Gillen Ultimate Collection” coming out in December. It closese and ADDs more to the ending of JMS’r run really well. And yes, Siege becomes even better if you’ve read both JMS and Gillen’s stuff.
Just pick vol 1 of JMS’s run on Amazon, and give it a try.
I would skip Fear Itself but the tie ins to Journey Into Mystery were great the main story just felt disappointing. Also for the Siege tie ins make sure you get Siege: Loki one shot.
They could make the Hammer Toss a Projectile Super. One thing he absolutely cannot do is properly punish from full screen.
Anyway I’m reposting what I wrote in the other thread because everyone seems to have migrated here:
Still no word on his supposed new move? Isn’t it some new vertical projectile?
A few thoughts on the changes:
From the looks of it I guess they really don’t want to improve his ground normals much. I guess that might be ok considering the rest of his buffs.
I wonder what they mean by “overall frame reduction” for mighty strike. Faster startup? Faster recovery? both?
Will you be able to followup Mighty Punish with an OTG assist or H Mighty Smash?
I was hoping they would improve Mighty Thunder somehow, like give it better recovery or invincibility frame, or make it so it always comes out like Magnetic Shockwave. Ah well, looks it will still have minimal uses.
Better active frames and (allegedly?) range on command throws means better resets.
Might be able to loop Mighty Sparks at the end of a combo with assists now?
Thor’s damage output will be insane with the change to Special move damage scaling. Hopefully his normals don’t scale to 0 anymore either.
I don’t use Hard Mighty Smash much outside of combos, but it should be much easier to land after an air combo. Also, a blocked H Mighty Smash canceled into Mighty Punish and DHC’d into something like She-Hulk’s air grab could be nasty. If they pushblock the smash it’s essentially safe. If they don’t, they have to jump or get thrown. If they jump, they get grabbed by She-Hulk on reaction. So dirty, lol.
The buffs are nice for sure, but I still don’t see him having anything particularly abusable. You need that to be tops in Marvel.
Yeah there is literally nothing to abuse with Thor. In general any buffs are still nice though.
Also full screen punish, light might spark xx mighty punish dhc beam super lol.
I was daydreaming earlier on today about ways to make Mighty Thunder useful. I saw it as one giant lightning bolt storming down from the sky landing in front of Thor. More like Zero’s Rekkoha instead of Mags’ Shockwave, because that’s how Thor killed Sentry, one of Thor’s many epic moments. Then I thought, “that’s cool, but this is Mahvel!” So I want Mighty Thunder to be just like it is now, with the multiple lightning bolts coming down from the sky filling up the screen, except instead of it doing it like it is now, make it completely full screen, like literally every part of the screen count as a hit box, and instead of the lightning coming down one by one, let it come down in multiple spots at multiple times, I guess I’m thinkin’ more like a full screen version of Arthur’s Great Magic Fire Dragon.
Yeah that would be cool. Make it a level 3 for all I care, just make it suck less, lol.
I. Though. The. EXACT…same thing. Not for reference, just thinking that making MT like Mags shockwave doesn’t sit right. Thor summoning 1 massive, covers %80 of the screen hard to evade lighting bolt would be cool. And instead of hitting 4 times, just doing 383k for 1 hit would be amazing.
Not just beam hypers. You could use a wiffed Mighty Punish to give your second character a free opening with their super. If Thor wiffs most characters will have to leave Thor alone because they second they press a button dhc into any super that’s good but has bad start up. I do it now with Storm’s Hailstorm. You can DHC VERY late with Punish.
I am probably saying something you guys already know, but the one use for Mighty Thunder besides a DHC is using it about half the screen from a character, hitting x-factor, then chasing the player down and mighty hurricaning while the lightning is still hitting him. For some reason during testing, I don’t know why, you can throw a character at almost any time during the blockstun of Mighty Thunder. Obviously it’s better when the character is on the ground.
It’s useful when the game is getting down to one or two characters and you want to pin a character down.I’ve used it online before.
Have any of you tried this?
The reason that’s possible is because the block stun on Mighty Punish is infinitesimally small. That is a good way to take the super’s biggest flaw and use it to your advantage, I must admit, and I may implement this some time in the future, but I typically don’t like using X-factor on Thor unless I’m facing a major threat on the opponent’s team.
Sort of Similar but I run Thor on Point or Second depending on which team i’m running. Most times vs Wolverine,Wesker,Zero or Dante I pop X factor if I know 100% I can catch them with mighty hurricane. I find a lot of times people running these characters fold hard when their Uber S tier Character gets obliterated by the Odin Son. (Sips Odin’s Beer.)
