Thor UMVC3 changes

Have you tried the reset against live players? The thing is I had the same problem getting that reset vs. the CPU, I would fly over his head. However, when I played against others tonight when they tried to escape it put them right into the up-forward MH.

Hopefully this wasn’t just a fluke. It makes sense because vs. the CPU forward-MH midscreen works but in live play it rarely does. Try it out let me know.

UPDATE: So I made the CPU go front or back on the air recovery and sure enough, Thor was in perfect position for the reset you spoke of. It’s better than before. Essentially the way to stay away from this reset is to not touch anything… but SHHH don’t tell your opponents that.

They made him go higher to keep players from dashing away midscreen.

You guys are missing out if you haven’t tried Doctor Strange’s **Daggers of Denak assist with Thor. An awesome lockdown assist that can give Thor command grab setups if they wait for the daggers to hit them.

I’ve actually been usin’ Strange’s Bolts of Balthak assist, and it’s been workin’ out well for me too. I might try out some more assists of his, but those bolts come in handy. Especially when the first one shoots out, and then they try and attack Thor only to get staggered by the second. Then there’s the whole trying to wait for the second, and depending on the range, that’s just begging for a command grab.

Speaking of which, I know you guys have all looked at the new ranges of those grabs, right? The :l: is simply ridiculous. I love it.

Still trying to figure out how to incorporate a wall bounce into Thor’s combos. So far, I got something that only works almost close (still a good bit aways from) the corner, and that’s **Nova Strike **assist, into Mighty Smash, into BnB. I really like Nova Strike because it really functions as a nigh full screen tackle, but that wall bounce really surprises me when it hits, and I pause not knowing what to do. Needs more lab time. There’s not enough time in the day.

I really like the extra hitstun and better startup on fully charged might smash. It’s super easy to link a medium Might Smash after and go for his corner reset without needing OTG assists.

Go for the ground resets guys, you can mix them up if the opponent tries to mash out and get another relaunch,

Considering OTG’s are much stricter for the rest of the cast (Hawkeye Ice arrow is super strict for example), thor being able to create his OTG’s by himself freakin’ amazing. I don’t really need an OTG assist anymore. I’ve been focusing on more “get off” assist and anything to lock an opponent in place, ie Triple Shot, Daggars of Denak, Black Hole…it they work beautifully.

Yeah I was suprised how much of a difference they full charge Mighty smash being easier to connect makes. You can do full aircombo full charge mighty smash
smaller air combo, full charge mighty smash xx super now… The hit stun on it seems the same to me… but I don’t know maybe Im wrong.

I haven’t really noticed too much of a grab range increase, maybe I just need to test my setups. IM still trying to find new resets with these longer combos cause the opponent techs higher now. I was sad my full charge mighty strike doesn’t end up looping, maybe on like sentinel.

I think Thor was low tier but in the sense that other characters could do enough of what he does for less effort or positive reads. That doesn’t mean he can’t win, it’s just harder to land that first hit. His only positive trade off was his health. I was going to the Break tournaments but I never got past the likes of the Break Guardians. Last time I played TenStars was in mid-September. His Dante’s pretty tough.

Anyway I’m not gonna be home til the end of the month. I watched Royal’s video, the buffs look nice. I played Clockw0rk in MvC2 and I’m gonna play Strider again. Usually helps to have a tank in the start of the fight. I think teleport assist will be good for Thor too because it tracks. Everyone gets a 2 week head start, I’m kinda jealous

Since we’re at it, could someone maybe start posting actual buffs in this game that Capcom didn’t mention? I know they mention all his grabs got better, and Mighty Punish 1 active frame is invincible…but the range is much better now. That I don’t think they said anything about (I don’t have the guide either to tell me actual changes).

Hell, maybe it’s me…but does Thor’s tick-grabs feel easier too? You couldn’t cut motion-corners in Vanilla with Thor…but I feel I don’t have to complete full-motion half the time. Maybe it’s me?

Edited to add You doing a launcher after the first fully charged Mighty Smash and is this corner only or anywhere on screen?

Also want to add… Novas (Nova Strike) Assist works amazingly well with Thor I am working on something I will share a bit later today… I just want to make sure it works on all cast members before I go running my mouth. Matter of fact they just work well together in general… Thors mighty smash assist can help you get a free mix up off of Novas M centurion arts.

I have the guide and I feel like some things were left out. I cannot quite put my finger on it but Thor just feels better. I could be wrong but I think his ADUF goes further and some things that used to give me trouble with thor are just much easier this time around… the tick throw is one of them. I have also been having a really easy time using his kara throw off of an opponents blocks. The added range to L mighty hurrican is insane but most of the time you can nab them with H easily now seeing as it has the range M used to.

It only works in the corner. But its pretty sick, almost 800k for one meter.

Liking the new Thor, not sure what my team is going to be yet but I really like Nova, Iron Fist, and Hawkeye. Need to do some more training to see if they can work together.

I’m looking at Nova/Thor also. I like that if they block, I can DHC from High Speed Tackle into Mighty Punish (I also use spiderman, so If I want to spend another meter, I can catch them if they get wise to my tricks and jump)

what combo are you ending the second mighty smash launch with … I can only get :m: > :l: Mighty Spark xx Mighty Tornado to land after the second launch.

Raise of hands of people who want Thor/Hawk/Nova…because it seem’s like half of us are thinking the same thing lol

Well Nova, for me, is too early for me to either be a first-team anchor or second-team anchor. Dorm is sooooo good with Thor I’ll probably keep him as first-team anchor.

Problem is, I like my second character to DHC seamless from the first and Nova doesn’t do that with Mighty Tornado.

His skrull Super (that one that makes a big ball) ends up below if you activate mighty tornado in the air. And I’m not sure if Nova can work as an anchor. He has bad recovery on some of his moves.

I’m merely playing with Nova as anchor. To be honest, his mobilty hurts his anchor status. He feels more like a point character that needs assist to cover his basis (sounds just like Vanilla Thor) and so does Iron Fist at the moment. Like I said, Dorm is so good as anchor. And his team synergy is excellent. Dorm and Thor (now Hawkeye) are best friends.

Either I imagined it or its really tight timing cause now I can’t get it either. My new modified combo with sent assist in corner (may work midscreen haven’t tested)

cr.l, cr.h, st.s, jump mmhs, full charge smash, S + sent drones, j.h,s land full charge mighty strike H into whatever…

I have more stuff to report but its late so probably tomorrow.

I’m lovin’ the new distance to Thor’s air dashes. I’m gettin’ resets off of Mighty Tornado anywhere on the screen now.

I’ve been using Thor/Hawkeye/Cap today and its been working really well. Not sure about the order yet as Thor’s Mighty smash assist is great after Cap OTG, but Mighty Tornado into SSS is pretty awesome. Hawkeye’s arrows and Cap’s shield slash work pretty well for Thor and its also an Avengers team!
