I’ve been thinking of switching out Hulk for Hawkeye to keep my Avengers themed team but haven’t done it yet since Hulk has given me a lot of clutch wins online.
Clutch wins online keeping that standing h alive looool
is thor a viable character if i want to win against good players?
Thor’s always been a “viable” character against good players. You just had to put in the work with him and pair him up with the right assists. With Ultimate, most of the major problems he had have been addressed and remedied, and he’s even more of a threat, but again, it all falls on you. He’s certainly not Wesker or Wolverine/Akuma in terms of craziness, but he can still kill any character off of one hit and a reset.
What are good assist for Thor? Thinking of trying him out on my Grider/ ???/ Doom team because I like his mighty smash bounce to follow up with BnB for GRider when it pops someone mid match and dat health points. I’ve been using Dorm but I’m super poopy using him I’m doubting if he’s for me though dat chaotic flame.
Any beam or projectile that covers the horizontal area of the screen is good for Thor as it aids in him getting in. And when he’s in, a good lock down assist, like Dormammu’s Dark Hole, is good for keeping the pressure on folks while he’s in. As an added note, don’t give up on the Dread Lord. Thor and Dormammu work exceptionally well together. Good synergy between 'em all around. Purification or Dark Hole work good. DHCing from Mighty Tornado into Stalking Flare is so cool. And when Dorm is in a tight spot, a quick crossover counter into Thor’s Mighty Smash leads to a juicy combo.
As LegendaryDJ pointed out Beams and lockdown work really well with thor. I like Dorms Darkhole or Dr Stranges Eye of Agamatto for lock down and I really like stranges bolts of balthak for beam assist. Most characters can duck them easily but they take a while to complete and gives you ample time to set up your approach.
^this, dormammu is one of the best partners for thor imo, and i just love using mighty tornado to combo into 2 stalking flares in a row (i think its only possible with mighty tornado).
So this may lead to something or it may lead to nothing…
I was thinking about duckstrong posting he has 900k reliable and I was like hmmmm I wonder what it is so I tested my corner combo and that does around 820k
then I was like I wonder if you can do anything good with the new combo to M mighty spark
So i messed around for a bit and I have been able to get two times
cr.l, cr.h, S, jump, instant airdash uf + H xx mighty spark M (spark hits weird becomes untechable) falling H, Land, S, launch MMHS this seems to do less than other combos but you can land a full charge mighty ssmash there and it could possibly do more, right now though it seems prohibitively hard to do. Also mighty spark M does alot of hits so may ruin the combo scaling… then I thought hmm mighty spark L might work too…
cr.l, cr.h, S, jump, instant airdash uf + m xx mighty spark l (spark hits weird becomes untechable) falling H blah blah balh (except I never got to do the blah blah blah as i kept fucking it up… but this could also lead to more damage.
anyway I only tested it for like 10 minutes so if someone else wants to try give it a go.
Lol, that’s not at all what I was talking about, but it’s interesting nonetheless. I’ll play around with it.
Cool find  .
p.s. With 2 (specific) assists he can get just under 1.1 million with 1 bar
ya i just noticed the same thing about mighty spark, does anyone know what change they did to mighty spark? because it seems that if it doesnt fully connect it will put them in an untechable state like mighty tornado, i dont remember this ever happening to me in vanilla.
But right now its nothing more than an annoyance tbh, i cant recreate it consistently and it keeps happening when i want to go for a reset after mighty spark.
The only official information from the guide is that “Mighty Spark now causes more hitstun against airborne opponents”.
That still happened in vanilla, it just wasn’t this easy to make happen.
ok here’s another question, did thor’s mighty spark always eat up projectiles? as in the spark itself not the beam, i was watching one of royalflush’s matches and at one point his L mighty spark completely nullified doom’s plasma beam and i cant remember if this still happened in vanilla.
From what I understand by reading the New Testament, :l: Mighty Spark lasts 5 frames longer and has 5 more durability points than Doom’s :l: Plasma Beam.
after spending some time in training mode with thor there are a few things ive noticed:
-The increased hitstun on mighty spark makes it easier to connect a normal after it, with the M and H versions you can link any normal other than st.H but with L you have to start with a light attack. Whats great about this is that you can convert any AA mighty spark into a combo, theres going to be a lot of damage scaling because of mighty spark but its still good to be able to combo of it. Just keep in mind that you cant rly capitalize on this unless its a ground mighty spark, with air mighty sparks you’re much better off going for a reset.
-This also makes it possible to further extend combos in the corner, like instead of just ending the combo with OTG > Mighty spark H xx MT you can do mighty spark H > mighty smash M > Launch > j.H xx Mighty spark L xx MT.
-The old combo ender for thor with an OTG assist (atleast for me) was OTG + charged Mighty strike M > Mighty spark M xx MT, but now that the charging time is faster you can do charged Mighty strike H > charged air Mighty strike L > air Mighty spark M xx MT
-Now this im not 100% sure of, i think that either the recovery on mighty smash L has been reduced or the hitstun increased because its seems slightly easier to follow up with a fast OTG assist. But like i said im not sure and if there rly is a change i expect it to be very small like 1-3 frames.
Thats all for now, im planning on making a combo vid within the next few days showing off all this stuff. Ive always known that mighty spark L has a lot of recover but never rly realized the difference in recovery between the different versions until i tested this out, you recover from both the M and H versions almost immediately after the last hit but with mighty spark L there’s a lot more recovery after the move is over.
Bah, you ruined my surprise :(.
Will post a vid in a few minutes.
lol sry about that
I was actually considering keeping it to myself until i made the vid but now im glad i didnt, guess il wait to see what you have before i make mine.
Lol, it’s all good, I can’t begrudge you for figuring stuff out. My vid is uploading as I write this. Should just be a couple of minutes.
Oh, and he can actually do 3 fully charged Mighty Strikes in a row but it’s kinda hard (and a little character specific).
Edit: Ok all fixed.
