-THOR- The movie (2011) Thread

Saw it yesterday. No major flaws with it, some good methods were used for translating it to reality. Would have been better if made ā€˜longerā€™, as Thorā€™s revelation was WAY too short and unbelievable. Didnā€™t realize how short NAtalie wasā€¦sheā€™s like 6 inches taller than a blue mailbin it looked like HAR HAR.

Iā€™d give it a 3.5/5 - nothing wrong, but nothing great. shrug

I totally agree, Batman Begins was 140 mins and TDK was 154 (Thor was 114 so no slouch either), both were a critical and financial success. People would stand to sit for another 30 minutes to have a really great film experience.

The theature operators on the other hand would like to get you out the door as soon as possible. There politics in movie run times.

honestly, it wouldnā€™t even need to be 30 minutes, just give him ten to fifteen more minutes of real world time to make the compressed timeline make a bit more sense. They did a great job from a setup point with regards to length, and climax was timed well, the middle just felt lacking in purpose as the significance of it takes place in your own head.

Like really they were at that level of intimacy after a coupe days? Sheā€™s *EASY.

Then how will they convince you to buy the awesome directorā€™s cut blu-ray edition?

it wonā€™tā€¦Iā€™ve given up on buying DVDs/Blu-Rays, I watch them once and then they just sit there. MAybe if they lowered the costā€¦but I doubt it, theyā€™ve gotten fat off the current prices, no reason to bring it back in line (like the tape->CD transition).

Though theyā€™d be wise to do a Mahvel Box Set on Blu-ray for Avengersā€¦

My man, Hemsworth could get ANY girl to get with him in a shorter period of time. The fact that it took THAT long for her to suck his face, is hard to believe.

Alsoā€¦ Did Ebert even watch the movie?

No. His name is Destroyer, and he is apparently killedā€¦

!!

Spoiler

when Thor redirects his doom laser beam back into his face via Mjolnir, you dumb old man.

So is the general consensus on this movie to wait for DVD?

I get that most people are comparing it to Spider Man/Iron Man, but I should add that Iā€™m not up for wasting my money on mediocre movies. I normally go into a movie with low expectations, but seeing as though these movies are going to be a part of the eventual Avengers movie, my expectations are raised.

If I have to question whether or not I enjoyed the movie, itā€™s a waste of money. It seems most people are saying itā€™s average, right?

He did NOT watch the movie if he thinks thats how Destroyer gets destroyed hahaha. I bet he thinks Aladdin died to Jafar.

Its exactly what it is, a summer action movie featuring Thor, one of the most powerful averngers with the most weird storyline as the whole Norse mythology concept is foreign to everything else ā€˜Mahvelā€™. Youā€™ll laugh, youā€™ll smirk, and youā€™ll see some stuff get blowed up. You more than likely will not clap, but you wonā€™t feel cheated when you walk out the theatreā€¦assuming you donā€™t see it in 3D. Capcom fai;led though - they should have modeled Thor in MVc# after movie Thorā€¦he was quicker and used the hammer betterā€¦and has a goateee, completely mindfucking any argument.

  • :bluu:

Ya, I donā€™t agree with ā€œwait for the DVDā€. See it in the theatre.

See in theature. This movie was fun and Asgard was great on the big screen.

agreed, they IMO did a great job with Asgardā€¦Iā€™m still o nth fence about the costumesā€¦but the set was spot on.

  • :bluu:

I liked the costumes. They didnā€™t ever look out of place or ugly. Nothing was glaring. I dont think it will any awards anything but I thought the cohesion over all worked. Thors buddy with the stache needed to rock that coat he wore on Joutunhiem more tho. Dude looked like a boss lol.

Well the costumes blended well wit hthe set, I just honestly didnā€™t like them. Hell Thorā€™s cape was an eyesoar whenever it was on screen. And walking around all day with metal clothing just seems too over the top. Going into combat foresureā€¦but eating wild boar? Bump that my belly is gona grow, Iā€™mma need some sweat pants and a wife beater. They were straight form over function.

After reading more of the Ebert reviewā€¦ He has to be trolling.

Despite finding much fault with the film, Iā€™m with the ā€œsee it in theatersā€ crowd.

BUT not in 3D! This filmā€™s 3D is garbage!

Zat eez all.

Batman Begins was? When the Dark Knight was out I heard everyone talking about it including some of my teachers, but I heard nothing when Begins was out or at the time that The Dark Knight was out/coming out.

What?

They wore their work clothes when they werenā€™t at work. When you are home you dress more casually, not run around in body armor. Heā€™s complaining that they went for cool instead of what made sense.

Correct. I mean even the Greek/Roman gods switched clothing based on what they were doing. And its a real small detail that Iā€™m not actively trying to bitch about - just saying that I wasnā€™t a fan of the costume design in general, nor the logic in it. The only outfit that I trully liked was Lokiā€™sā€¦I think he was nailed pretty spot on costume wise. Thor seemed to be a cross between what would really be worn and what was in the comicā€¦and that bright red cape ā€˜makes senseā€™ as a royalty marker and because of what he rocks in th comic, but by no means does it look good, it crosses that line into cheesy IMO.

Hell Iā€™ll go on record and say Loki was portrayed the best outside of the whole ā€˜self history revealā€™ angleā€¦didnā€™t like the way that worked, but everything else from him was wel lexecuted (and that wasnā€™t bad either just not my favorite). The Gatekeeper was boss.
