This Is All For Killing!: The M.O.D.O.K Combo Thread

what are some bnb wall carry combos? I’m trying to do a combo from awesomsaur’s vid. I believe it was air grab dash slim, fly cancel adf m, s, j.m, j.h, j.s, land, jump addf slim, S, j.m, j.m, j.S. I can’t seem to air dash in time and I keep getting S reflectors out. I’ve played around with modok in vanilla but I’m wanting to pick him up since there are no modok players from where i live. at least I don’t believe so. Anyways, I’m not sure what team i should be running since Ultimate made my team decision alot harder. Right now my modok team is with mag and sent.

edit: Do i do a jump addf slim or just a dash slim after the jump air throw. Does the height of the air throw matter?

There is a lot of other ways to get a launch besides doing a FLY cancel m into s, you can do stuff like this

You generally wavedash>Cr.M>flight cancel>IAD M>S to combo stuff if you don’t want to do that. In general MODOK’s relaunches will get to the corner in no time.

Thanks, I found that a lot more reliable since it works so well. I’d sacrifice the damage, but I’m landing the Jamming bomb for another mixup attempt anyway.

Anyone who’s good at TAC combos experiment with starting TAC combos with L Balloon Bomb? I noticed that it has potential, but my execution is crap.

I posted these combos in another thread, but I figured it would be more adequate if I posted them here. These are all solo jamming bomb combos that can be done in the corner. They also generate their own levels of understanding. Note that any more hits on these will result in the opponent popping out of standing :h::

cr.:h:, IAD j.:m:, cr.:h:, :qcb::l:, cr.:h:, :ub:j.:h:, j. :s:, :h:, :f:+:h:, Jamming Bomb, Snap Back. 436,000 damage.

cr.:h:, IAD:df: , cr.:h:, IAD:df:, cr.:h:, :qcb::l:, cr.:h:, :ub:j.:h:, j. :s:, :h:, :f:+:h:, Jamming Bomb, Snap Back. 448,800 damage. This one uses the “cr.:h: hopping” technique Nos developed. It has the advantage of being able to start a little further away from the corner, but it is significantly more difficult to do.

IAD j.:l:, cr.:l:, :m:, cr. :h:, :qcb::l:, cr.:h:, :ub:j.:h:, j. :s:, :h:, :f:+:h:, Jamming Bomb, Snap Back. about 304, 300 damage. This one is just to demonstrate that it can be done from the standard baby kicks approach. The damage depends on how many hits you do with standing :m:, with more hits resulting in less damage (I think max hits on this reduces the combo’s damage by 50k o_O). It also seems that max hits on standing :m: won’t make the opponent pop out of standing :h:, so you don’t have to change the combo or anything if you accidentally get all hits of :m:

Very nice find. The timing is stricter on Wolverine and other smaller characters on the last one, but on everyone else, it’s just as easy as doing assist jamming bomb combos.

Thanks  they are a little more difficult to do on small characters, but not by much really. The only character that these don’t seem to work on is MODOK :open_mouth:

go figure

these in theory, should work off of a j :s: as well right? I mean u just go ground bounce into l-cube, cr H, l cube, cr H, forward H, then jamming bomb?

That won’t work, sadly :(. The ground bounce is required to get the necessary height for standing H to propel the opponent high enough for the forward H to connect with the upper edge of its hitbox. In fact, if you do the combo correctly, the opponent should fall into the forward H’s hitbox after the standing H, so you have to wait a little bit to cancel forward H into jamming bomb (or else the forward H won’t connect at all!). All of that is a prerequisite if you want the jamming bomb to not whiff because of its ridiculous amount of startup. Oh well, at least it’s doable and perfectly practical. Already I’ve been confusing some of my online opponents nyahaha >:3

you can land the cube into the wall bounce/jamming bomb under certain circumstances actually, in the corner for certain. For my Modok team, I use strange impact palm, hard tag to modok, j.S , light cube, s.H, f.H ,jamming bomb. Be fast about the cancel and you should be fine. I just tested it and works without air state the palm puts you into as well. It was the first problem I had since swapping to modok at the start of the match leaves me with zero L.O.U, so adding the cube was a requirement. I don’t play online but i’d imagine it would be quite difficult with the frame timing.

Ah, good to know  I assumed it wouldn’t since I tried to do it in Vanilla and I couldn’t. Maybe it’s because of the new recovery of cubes? Maybe my execution sucks jajaja

Does this combo still work? I can’t seem to connect balloon bomb after jam session. I play this team as my main modok team. Also what assists is good at comboing into jamming bomb?

I would guess that it doesn’t work anymore due to the assist hitstun change. It now scales like other moves, unfortunately.

Yep, jam session is now subject to hitstun decay, as are all of Dante’s assists.

You guys might want to check out this handy-dandy spreadsheet if you’re wondering which assists are immune to hitstun decay. This is not to say that the other ones can’t be used to extend combos, especially if used early in the combo or if they get lots of quick hits (Strange’s eye of agamotto) / naturally have very large base hitstun values (Strange’s bolts of balthakk), but the assists with immunity will always behave the same way so you never have to worry about how long your combo was before you call them (after a long aerial exchange combo for example).

If you notice anything amiss in that sheet, let me know!

I was also wondering if you guys would like to help me create a community combo video like some of the users in the other character sub-forums have been doing? Show the various tricks and teams you’ve got going on, all the B&B’s, cube combos, maybe some information and examples, etc. I can capture anything you guys would like to see in there if you want, and of course I would give you guys full credit and shoutouts and whatnot. You’ll never see ads on my channel (I’m a not-for-profit MODOK nerd lol) so don’t worry about anything like that either… I just don’t think there’s ever been a proper MODOK video made yet, and I bet everyone would get a kick out of it?

I was just thinking about this, actually if people wanted to kick me out some vids I’d be more than happy to edit it up all sexy. Part of what I do for a living is video editing etc. Or I can just send stuff in, your call Nos you’re our guru after all.

re: Nos99

I think its a great idea and can bring more attention to MODOK from the rest of the community. Every time I play online, it seems that people are shocked to see modok doing combos or actually playing the game and always send messages, lol. Its awesome playing a less played character, but the lack of knowledge about MODOK is staggering. I hate making videos because I have to do a balancing act recording with my phone and it has prevented me from recording alot of stuff. I will help with anything but video related stuff, lol.

What sort of format were you thinking? movement, special move/normal properties, general gameplan, beginning/intermediate/advanced combos, mixups, sample teams?

Things I think should appear in a Community Video

-Solo Jamming Bomb combos, mostly to make sure that people know that it’s possible not to use an assist.

 • Starting a Combo from Super Jump heights. MODOK spends a lot of time up there, it’s worthy knowing how to do a decent combo up there.

 • X-Factor with MODOK, mostly because people should know what options MODOK has in his finger tips. Even if you don’t use X-factor MODOK, people don’t actually practice those combos.

-HBR linking trick where you can connect muttiple HBR at once. A lot of people want to learn this trick and it’s one of highest damaging combos MODOK players have. It’s worth even showing if a tutorial of this if you can.

-Resets. There a lot of cool things you can do a single EX barrier without even using a jamming bomb.

-Unblockable Setup combos using Cr.M+ his overheads. There are also characters have unblockable setups that MODOK can abuse to his pleasure such as Trish.

Or You could use THCs like Storm. Such as Hail Storm THC>X-Factor>Unblockable setup.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if Nos’s TODs on Thor still work in this game?

Pfft! I’m no one’s guru, I’m just a combo nerd! :looney:

Well… You’re talking about a complete tutorial, which is a much much bigger fish than what I was originally thinking lol I was just thinking about combos/setups/info (hence posting in the combo thread)

I’m also not sure if we want to really be preaching about how he should be played exactly, as I think the jury is still out on a lot of things, but I’m not opposed to explaining specifics and providing examples and such. I don’t know how deep you’d want to go though, because it could be HUGE, multiple parts, etc. I mean, you could potentially dedicate an entire video just to flight!

If done right (succint, concise, etc) it might not be that bad though… Hrm… perhaps this needs its own thread… ?

I bet they do… damnit, now I have to go check lol

I’d assume that the combos at least need more starting meter because of the reduced meter build.
