WHOAH!? SUP CLOCK!? Get on Starcraft more often and play on East more ^_^. That humiliating defeat you gave me last time was pretty bad T_T. (NeX-Clockw0rk the noob who is using ur name!) Anywho… I just started going back to the arcade scene and jeez my strider/Doom is a mess! I’m just wondering if anyone could give me advice on playing against MSP I would really appreciate it. I can’t handle that team at all… Seems like Magneto is always all over my ass and I can’t create some room to try and start trapping him. I try calling out Doom to make magneto back off but he ussually take a Feirce to the face and if worst comes to worst he gets the snapback and Doom is dead. Any advice? The order I’m using against MSP is Strider/Sent/Doom since my Strider could probably do a hell of alot better on point against a magz then my sent.
Heres what I’ve found helpful for Clock vs MSP.
Strider vs Magneto
Call a whole lot of animals while calling the Drones assist. The bird combined with drones covers the whole bottom half of the screen so magneto has now way of quickly dashing in either by a ground dash or square dash. Basically play run away with this, putting strider as far away from mag as possible, until mag gets fed up and tries to super jump in. When that happens call doom, activate orbs, and run the trap. I only trap for two rotations against mag so that I always have the meter to activate orbs if needed. I’d also say to stay away from calling doom in this match-up except ofcourse while trapping. This is largely due to that Drones controls the space needed to keep mag away much better, as well as that psylocke goes through doom, and getting doom snapped is a ‘game over’.
Sent vs Mag
This is probably the more common and IMO in sent’s favor. However, it all really depends on how good your sent is. A good sent player shouldn’t get too much trouble from mag. I typically just run more ground traps in this match. As soon as you get some distance between you and mag just whore cr. mouth beam fly/unfly cr. mouth beam while calling doom. Then fly around a bit and try to pan handle him. My sent isn’t too good so I can’t give much advice beyond that. But fuck MSP, Strider/Doom 4 life!
eep starting doom? Say doom takes half life and then you dhc into strider. Any big combo on doom assist will destroy your game. Even a few safe pepper combos will put you in a bad situation. Like a potential snap out because you want doom to regain some of his life. Theyll hop over tron assist and rush strider down and snap in doom. Reset or kill doom and you just probably lost the game. I just dont think the risk\reward is worth it. Its strider\doom not strider ron.
I seen strider tron work because strider has tons of xup tricks. Throw tron in the mix followed by lock down pattern and the opponent has probably just lost half their life from 1 setup. Its good a s\d gimmick team. The achilles heel of that team is stider death. You have 2 mid tiers on your squad and youll be fighting mags\storms\sent etc. You pretty much lost the fight unless you have a god like doom and tron.
if you can block mags and storms and keep your doom assist life up youll always have a chance regardless of what s\d team your running.
hmm this sound pretty effective. I play a fuckn beastly magneto all the time so ill try these setups. I can picture the offense in my head. So play off the drones? bird dog etc when needed to control space. Always have a meter handy so you can back your assist up if they got hit? If mag square jumps teleport other side repeat? this sounds like some smart play. What about short bomb to cover strider against mag? wouldnt that give you more options?
I play s\d the total opposite way. Ill rush that mother fuckn shit down. I can get a quad orb setup usually no problem. I like to fuck up the gc points in striders trap with weird shit and it gives me another rotation. I like the idea of going low during an attempted GC. I’ve seen mag players do it so it only makes sense that strider should do the same. No wonder why wong blocks instead of getting for a gc. He doesnt want to get hit low.
I play s\d with extreme offense. I try to keep strider on the point character but this leaves strider open to counter. I try to teleport around the assist so i can keep him going. It works when you can do it right. I think a combination of smart play followed by proper extreme offense will make him hella nasty. thnx for the tips.
Short bomb definitely leaves some ambiguity to the opponent cause it is hard to see that bomb coming sometimes. It’s very tempting for any impatience player to take advantage of an opening that looks like that. But mag can’t do any real damage unless he’s in your face, so it’s definitely something to look into.
I don’t really have a god-like Doom/Tron still working on Tron corner combos, but call it a dream: “Become good in mvc2 without using top4.” Probably impossible, I play Strider cause he’s just my favorite character, I’m pretty sure that’s a reason why a lot of folks look up to clock and play s/d themselves. People will play mag, storm, sent cause they want to win.
yeah, you gotta watch the assist. It’s the quickest way to get countered.
Playing strider completely offensive against MSP is difficult, cause sooner or later a quick teleport will get scouted out by mag and you’ll eat psylocke AA. Against any good mag player thats basically a dead strider. I usually only use bombs against Cable (to guard AHVB) and storm (to guard hail storm, although birds do a better job of this) I never use the short bombs. Trust me, against MSP play about 70% run away with strider, Magneto is one of the only characters strider actually can against. Just build that meter and the other 30% of the time trap. Playing against a Magneto without a powerful assist is totally different, typically it’ll be MSS or MCS, both using the rocket punch assist. I trap mostly against these mags, still playing some run away, but its almost free teleports and free calls to doom knowing the worst that can get you is a cable AA.
doesn’t cable’s AA deal the same amount of damage as commando’s corridor? it doesn’t seem like it, but i think i went on the dc and checked the damage. unless by powerful you mean no combo from mag afterward. if that, then you’re so damn right. teleport in ALL DAY. haha
yea i play against a world class mag all the time. Ill trap\keep away for a while then when he has an oppurtunity to attack I call short bomb. I think mag has to repsect this because what is he going to do. If he rushes in he risks getting hit by bomb. If he dashes in and assit, he risks his assist getting hit by bomb. Bomb on assist hurts and it leads to orbs and bomb reset. Thats almost 1 character dead from that. You really have to know the bomb hit area because mag can hit strider and combo around the bomb hit sprites. I do it because its working as of right now. If my friends find a way to beat it consistently Ill drop it.
Whenever I try to bomb cancel orb strom her hail beats my bomb. Is that supposed to work? Should I play storm the same way I play mag except more birds to counter hail?
hook me up with some storm and sent strats. I keep on getting spit checked by sent and it adds up on strider. I usually do well against sent when I got drones behind me because thats means no spit check. Its just when I dont have sent Im in trouble. I have to work double jump and hope hell fall for something.
The mag strat you mentioned worked like a charm. I’m starting to notice the difference between a solid strider and a beastly strider. I have a pretty good s\d already its just sometimes I try to beast too much and hell die. I’d appreciate it if you could hook me up with a little more in depth s\d tactics.
wow never thought I’d be asked directly for strider strats. I wish Kai or Clock would post some stuff cause I know their stirders are far superior to mine. Anyhow heres some other stuff I’ve found helpful for playing strider against cable, sent, and storm.
I would say storm is probably striders hardest matchup from the God-Tier. So a strat against her is a bit complicated, especially against a good strom player. Most storm players either play her runaway or rushdown, while the best play a game of mostly running then quickly switching to rush down. Its this transition that makes storm arguably the best character in the game. I typically play a game of runaway against storm, same as against mag calling tons of animals and drones. However, you probably want to call mostly birds just incase hail storm comes out. Once you get storm away from you for a bit, call doom instead of sent and teleport in, run the trap and repeat. If strom manages to rush you down and you can’t keep her back just activate orbs and keep trying till you’re successful. This strategy is very similar to the one versus mag, but storm will most likly try to do typhoon XX hailstorm when she is kept away rather than super jump in like mag. So by teleporting in and running the trap you gotta switch from runaway to rush just like storm will try to do. Whichever player is more successful at making the transition will win most likly. Use lots of birds they just might save an assist or stirder’s life, and if you scout out a hail storm coming you can teleport in and introduce her to your J.fp aka cypher to that bitches face. If storm is running high in the sky I only chase when I have orbs activated or if she tries to do vertical typhoons. Otherwise just try to build meter on the ground, wait for her to about to land and try a teleport cross up or somthin.
For cable learn the rh bomb cancel to orbs, and rush that fuck down. Nuff said, don’t get doom shot!
I’m not to good against sent, but striders infinite and drones really help this match out. I usually call drones and try to cross up sent coming down with a fp. If it connects just infinite to the corner. Trapping sent is also pretty good cause hes so fucking big he can’t get out. So if I have the meter I will repeat the trap as long as I can.
Hope some of that helps.
What strider players are going to EVO EAST?
Strider’s RH bomb on Cable sometimes isn’t enough
When they are expecting it, sure enough they’ll bust out an AHVB when they see you do it.
Against Cable, try dashing in and super jumping with Sent assist helping your back
Afterwards try to get him in stun lock when you’re close enough after avoiding his assist and start up Orbs/Doom
When facing against Mag, you have to realize that it’s possible for Mag to kill the bomb with his FP then cancel into his HK in your face
Call out Sentinel Ground Assist when this happens while doing the LK bomb xx Orbs
good shit. I just thought I’d take your advice because that magneto thing helped me out alot. I kept on trying to rush that fucker and I always thought my trap was weak.
I dont think ill be able to beat storm until my keep away gets better. That way I can fake a keep away setup and turn it into a trap setup. I see what your saying though about switching from trap to offense. If you keep away for so long then trap then repeat consitently, all you have to do is switch between the 2 and catch your opponent off guard. It makes sense. Thats a cool idea ill have to work on it.
I noticed the bomb orb on cable only works when you can get a full screen on him. If you try that shit midscreen on him it wont work. You can do short bomb orbs when hes in range for that but thats not going to be often. Also bomb orb only works on cable when you have meter. After that your stuck playing the keep away game and thats a tough fight. Especially if cable reads your teleport jump xup jab gun ahvb done. I like the super jump Idea though that seems like it would work pretty good. Ill just option tree around that idea until something else opens up.
some extra shit I’d like to ask.
when do I go for hits during orbs and when do i go for chip?
Sometimes ill be indicisive about it and call doom and throw far bomb. If I go for hits and reset, ill lose the chip potential plus any meter building I could of done then. If go for chip, ill get some pretty decent life plus meter building and keep away. I dont know which one to do sometimes.
is it good to fake your setups sometimes?
I was thinking about this yesterday and I got drones and orb on assist because I waited a second. If the opponent sees through this though you can be rushed the fuck down while your waiting to counter.
What do you do when strider is being rushed down?
Ill try to block as good as i can and hope sentinel comes out and ill activate off that. Any good player will kick doom in the head if you try to get him in. I think I read one of clockworks post saying that GC orbs is the best way to get the trap started because it counters their setup automatically. Doesnt work against cable though. I cant remember exactly what he typed but I think it was something like that.
I put up a couple of matches of mine up on Youtube for fun. I recoreded them like six months ago, around the time I picked up marvel again. Haha, you can probibly see the rust in the play. But umm, yeah, check them out if you want. It should give some beginners a little more understanding of things since the world lacks Strider Videos.
SNAKE
wow long time no post clockw0rk!
now that I am reinterested in marvel again, teach me everything about s/d from the ground up, kthx.
ps: size=9 :-*
ok
nice avatar
Here is my strat against cables, i don’t know if most of you will go for this but here goes.
I mostly do this when i see that i can have a huge advantage afterwards, meaning, that the winning gap between me and my opponent is near fair so to say. What i do against a metered cable/sent or aaa is i allow my sentinel to eat the AHVB. I do an intentional tag in hopes that the opponent will punish my sentinel. WTF, feeding a character? Think of it, cable has no wasted all his meter and you’ve just gained some. Because i have now drained all of cables and the teams meter by letting sentinel take it, i have also gave my strider loads of meter and no worry, hense making him more aggressive. With the loss of the teams meter i have now the ability to change the match dramatically.
This really isn’t what i call a top tier strat, but it does work at times.
Another thing is, don’t underestimate cable. “No shit cisco, the AHVB… who won’t take that seriously”… well, live by that word then. Every S/D thread contains something about Strider ripping out cable easily, and all i have to say is that’s not true. Bombs are nice but not all the time, not against Cable/Sentinel… bombs would nearly mean shit and you can be highly punished for it. So don’t just call out bombs when ever cables far. Use your head, try your best to make him bump into doom (SJing around, trying to bait him in a certain position).
– now more with strider tips.
I suggest to start with sentinel 98% of the time; only start strider when the opponent starts off with Cable or Guile - sentinel does have problems against a real good guile… but it’s a damn good thing that it’s rather rare for players to start with either characters. So just start with sentinel against anyone else. Play a small lockdown chip game with sentinel/doom, don’t worry about trying to get open hit combos. Just fly back, land, c/s hp, drones with dooms assist and stuff. Play a small safe game. Dent that life and build that meter then DHC strider in. Strider/Doom’s strength highly increases when Strider is DHC’ed in, you have every time - the perfect time to lock them down with the trap.
He’s wrong. Against a good God tier opponent, you do need to ouro as much as possible because this protects you from nearly everything. Our helps you dominate the screen since you have two (?) projectiles coming out plus the fact that if you get touched the opponent gets hit. You need ouros to have less wory about strider’s vitality problems, too. Meter is very important to this character, it gets him going… saying it doesn’t is dumb.
Spiral/Strider/Doom is horrible. It’s hard as hell to keep the momentum started and going and spiral does need an assist that’s difficult to combat against. Doom does get stufffed by nearly all of the most used assists in the game.
as for Strider/doom/tron, i don’t like it. It’s fun for some, but i think that team is pure ass. You should be damn lucky to be able to land an open orbs plus tron because in real comp, it’s nearly impossible to get the opponent unblocked much. Another thing is that Tron counters very few assists, and it doesn’t help much with strider when he’s rushing against someone with a cyclops, sent, or possibly psy assist. You need one assist that can handle the AAA’s because Doom can’t handle most assists all the time. Tron gives strider high open damage but that’s where it ends (remember, you need to have successfulv open hits) but on the other hand there are just so many things you loose with tron. You can’t really teleport in on an opponent because Tron does not give the ground control for that, you don’t have an assist that can help you against attacks coming from the air… and both of your assists are only effective when near.
You need an assist that can protect and add to your aggressiveness/rushdowns. This is why Sentinel is by far the best 2nd character; drones provide all of that. It helps punish AAA’s, it allows you to come in safetly due to the ground control. That’s just about it… GROUND CONTROL. Any character that gives ground control is a must for strider. Spiral’s assist is great for strider, it helps give good ground control… but the problem is that spiral doesn’t have that much great chemistry with her team mates so she’s nearly nothing but an assist.
Strider/Doom/Cammy - this team is good, better than Strider/Cable/Doom IMO… the problem is you don’t have a descent character to start with in most matches unless you are really good/smart with cammy. A good cammy player can hold pretty well though… this is probably one of the best IMO.
strider/doom/capcom -is this a good team for storm and sent users?
Yes, you’ll get a few wins but not too long.
So what strider/doom team is best to fight sent and storm?
cisco your wrong about some of the things you posted. Strider owns cable if strider has meter. You dont need to activate as much as possible. If you can fight with strider w\o activating, you know strider. Anyone can activate and chip. Its what you do inbetween that seperates strider doom players.
cable cant punish strider for a bomb activate. Its free. Theres only 1 counter which I wont mention and I more than certain that you dont know it. Its common knowledge that strider can beat cable easily if you take your time and you know where cable is weak at. The people who invented those anti cable strats always place well at EVO. For you to say that it doesnt work just proves that you dont know what your talking about.
strider\doom\capcom. VERY VERY VERY old school team. Like when valle used to play s\d thats how old school it is. Alot of the strider doom trap has changed since then and team is more applicable to the new style than it seems. If you have beastly strider. this team becomes great because your overpowering strider. Gotta have a good doom too. Only thing wrong with this team if strider dies and you dont do enough life with him, your in bad spot. I’ve beaten quite of few great players with it recently. I dont recommend it as your best team but its a great B team for strider.
if the storm player never fights against s\d and your strider and doom are good. You can win this match. Play patient and pick your spots. This teams loses it advantages when you fight against a storm sent that knows s\d.
s\cable\doom is wayyyyy better than s\cammy\doom. I dont care how good your cammy is lol. cable is just a better character and he works with doom better than cammy would. s\cable\doom = dead assist off one meter.
s\d vs storm\sent: You should always pick sent\stri\doom for this matchup. too much to type it as far as strategy goes. One of your goals for this fight though should be to land the strider infinite on sentinel. If you can get that infinite, it could possibly be game. The thing about strider infinite is that it doesnt go full screen. Half screen with strider by himself, like 90% screen if strider times it with the drones. Learn how to trap perfectly because if strom gets out she will stay away till your meter is over.
also watch how storm comes down from the air after flying away from the orbs. If she floats at strider time a short bomb so shell land on it. If she flies away from strider time your long bomb. Sometimes storms will switch sides coming from the sky and it will fuck up your charge or make you guess which way to throw the bomb. If you run into someone that can do this, just wait her out and play patiently.
lastly the storm\sent\capcom or storm\sent\cyke are 2 different matchups for ssd. I believe strider has an easier time dealing with capcom than cyke. Doom beats capcom clean alot of the time if you do it right. Doom NEVER beats cyke.
s\d is great if you can pick your spots. Rushing in when you dont need too is just going to get strider killed.
