Things That Annoy You About Fighting Games and the People that Play Them

Thanks.

I am a big fan of Smash because I love the idea behind it, the game mechanics, and the chaos that it brings. I am not a fan of players who shoehorn it into something it clearly isn’t.

Yeah, that’s a personal problem that I need to work on. The funny thing is, it only happens with VF5. In my mind, trying to use everyone in a game where 1) each character has a large moveset, 2) knowing their frames is very important, and 3) some of your effectiveness depends on foot positioning, just seems like an exercise in futility.

In both SF4 and MvC3, C. Viper is a very high execution requirement character, and defended as such under the flawed argument of “better things should be hard” (instead of the much more valid “better things should have drawbacks and not necessarily arbitrarily high execution requirements”).

Which is a damn shame, because the measure of how well a character fits a player really should lie in that characters’ tools, mechanics, playstyle, etc. and not in some masochistic headspace where you need these muscle memory tests just to play a game or a chosen character. And hey, maybe there are people who actually like this for some weird reason, but I dunno, nothing’s stopping them from playing one-handed or something.

I appreciate all of this.

I agree with this. I think that the difficult to learn and easy to learn characters should be equal in terms of viability at a highly competitive level. I just wish more people had the competitive desire to dive into a game playing the most difficult characters to learn first.

u pussies. I only hit men.

With women, you gotta scar them emotionally. They can get back up from an uppercut, and run their mouth or call the cops. You remind them how little they really are, and that shit sticks. Let them know how fat they are. Tell them about all the pussy you got on the side. Remind them that their daddy beat them and drank for a reason.

Hitting is for high schoolers. You need to send them to fucking therapy, not a hospital.

wow, 4 likes and i posted this in the wrong thread :stuck_out_tongue:

People that hate the Snoop Dogg stage.

the ever-present, pervasive sexism and racism in fighting game communities

the idea that having a higher post count on a forum grants you greater authority

the massive amount of insecure manchildren that use wear the title “gamer” as if it meant something

the cult of forum “personalities”

You’re doing it wrong. The most important frames that you should know of the top of your head are P, Elbow, 2P on offense on block, hit, counter-hit. On defense you need to know the Frame Block of when you can Fuzzy Guard, CD Fuzzy Guard and Two Choice. As long as you know those, its easy to pick up another character.

Foot positioning is better for knowing half-circulars and which side to evade against them. It’s a lot easier to look at it as “do I see their back or stomach” instead of looking at their feet.

People who cry because they join a community yet don’t know how to be respectful and instead act like assholes who know everything and then get mad when older members of said community call them idiots

You mean like “Asians are good at Street Fighter”, or “King of Fighters is a game for Mexicans”, or “Black people are only the best at Marvel”? Because if so, then yeah, I think pidgeonholing an ethnicity, gender, sexuality, or even a certain stereotype in general into a type of game and using that to try and discriminate against said game and the people who play it is wrong. But really, discrimination like that, especially over something so realistically trivial in the grand scheme of things as video games seems wrong in and of itself.

the black people marvel thing is really weird considering jwong and yipes…

Foot positioning also affects your combos. When you consider that many moves change your foot position, it’s more information you have to be aware of, otherwise you’ll drop combos and not know why.

Well, to be honest I was just trying to make examples so people would get what I was saying. I don’t play Marvel so I don’t know if the “Black people and Marvel” thing has any truth to it.

True, but there are other combos that do just as much damage that are better without having to worry about foot positioning you should, be going for those. If you have to think about foot positioning for combos, you are doing more unnecessary work for yourself. Space control and shutting down your opponents movement is the most important for knowing Open/Close Stance. It helped me cut down on thinking smarter not harder. Do you look at the body or feet if the character?

ON TOPIC: Like you mentioned about features and training tutorials. Not sure why companies don’t build on this for the next series. In original VF5 and lack of training mode and stat tracking from VF4/EVO. The FS one is a’ight but still lacks the awesome of VF4, and it’s baffling. Do they just throw out the documents afterwards?

Why the fuck do people say this?

main thing that gets to me int he community are people not really IN the community thinking were full fo racist and mysgonist, fuck em all. Also the good ole “I’d play if more people played excuse”, heard this so much last time I was in Seattle for KOF which is weird as fuck seeing how Seattle has a GOOD damn KOF scene.

That is perhaps the most obvious example, yes. It may appear fairly innocuous, but it’s essentially gateway discrimination.

Who the fuck are you to decide if someone is “in” the community?

fuck yeah im mysogonistic or whatever its spelled, GOML @ Marvel, bitches :coffee:

I’m “in the community” and I think the casual racism and pervasive misogyny is so prevalent that I often feel the need to distance myself from the community-at-large. Specific game communities (TYM, for example) and the Evo staff/volunteers are awesome, but the internet presence of the fighting game community often makes my skin crawl.

People whining and bitching about the stuff in FS, like the throw system being “dumbed down” even though it’s a return to VF3. Luckily they didn’t make it VF2 where you could only break neutral and command grabs couldn’t be broken, haha! Or the damage being too high, which is another VF staple. Makes people look suspect when they complain about them, since its been in previous VFs.
