Things That Annoy You About Fighting Games and the People that Play Them

I know, and this isn’t even considering PR Balrog, Chris G, and Infrit. Ugh, now I almost wish I hadn’t have used that example.

so yea go team white people…

what does that even mean

the only black person to win evo was sanford

which goes against the stereotype that only black people are good at marvel

Didn’t Jason “Afro” Cole win back to back evo in ST?

I hate:

  1. When people complain about me using the same character over and over again. I’m not gonna go out of my way for your own interest so that I can not have fun and use a character I don’t even like. Plus, I rarely get any decent time playing fighters, so using the same character is my only way of getting practice. Even if it was a casual match with a total scrub, I will still use the same character and take the opportunity to practice frame traps, combos, cross ups, strategies, etc. before I get bodied by a more skilled player.

  2. The saying “Play the game how it’s supposed to be played”. How about you let me play the game the way I want to play it. If i’m doing advanced exploits, either deal with it or do it as well. You’ll have a lot more fun.

3.When people try to justify their scrubiness/assness at a game by calling it a bad game. Therefore, they will feel like it’s no big deal missing out on it and will just call the game “dead” and make sure everyone is discouraged from playing it. Usually common amongst the old school community or people trying hard to be like them.

  1. “Pick a Top Tier” Fuck these people. Nuff said.

  2. Bad netcode.

  3. People who bitch about ports.

  4. “Spamming (insert projectile here) is so lame” These people clearly have no idea what high level play is all about and the strategy behind many of these lame things in fighting games and the beauty of figuring around the lame playstyles. ST for example can be extremely lame and a real scrub joy killer.

  5. “Fighting games now days are so scrub friendly.” I don’t know where to start with this all.

  6. Capcom/mainstream fanboys - Getting on top of whatever Capcom comes out with and disregarding the existence of anything outside of it by calling it an “anime fighter, etc” and calling them all ass without even playing them for more than a week/month. Or, they will just say that any game that does not make a major is automatically ass. (I have met people like this before. No point in arguing with them. You’ll turn into the asian girl screaming at the horse).

  7. Non-Capcom/indie fanboys - Getting a bitch fit over capcom/mainstream games and calling them ass/scrub friendly when they themselves sound just as obnoxious for being a bunch of pretentious FG hipster thinking they are so good playing something that not many people play.

(9 and 10 are both equally annoying people.)

  1. “Smash is not a fighting game” As a long time smash player, it just frustrates and boggles my mind how this is still an argument. I also hate how people try to trash the community for being separated and attempt to insult the community with stereotypes that were never true and rant aimlessly about a game they know nothing about. As if their little “fgc” had no faults to it. As if it weren’t as disfunctional.

  2. People who try to start drama in the “FGC” or in tournaments that just lead to conflicts and bad experiences.

  3. People who refuse to up their game or take the time to figure their way around things in fighters that are considered “cheap” or learn to deal with bad match ups and just quit because they expect everything to be on easy mode auto pilot.

  4. Balance patches/renditions that nerf high tier characters.

I was talking strictly MvC2, I dont know about other games

If you don’t participate on tournaments or gatherings on your local scene/any scene nerby you, you are not part of the community, posting shit on a forum, or watching streams doesn’t make you part of it, i would even dare to say that playing online neither, but sometimes, that is the only way that some people have to interact with other players.

Usually the major part of people complaining about this are players of older capcom fg’s not the fans of other fg that aren’t made by capcom.

I like this throw system more. Rewards paying attention to stage position and knowing your opponent’s characters throw options instead of making it just an exercise in dexterity.

The excessive amounts of internet memes. Just fuck off. If you can’t be original then don’t try to be funny.

Its hard to not start throwing out logical fallacy references here ><

What’s even more funny are the exhibition matches in VF4:EVO and VF5 showing the players doing no more than 2 TE (4 TE being the max)in high level play. I could see the complaint that having execution could give you more options to shut the players throw options down, but even then, you can still go for the weak throw and turn it into a strength provided you know how to follow it up, making what was considered a weak throw into a viable threat.

Before I bitched about the removal of them but an old VF head dropped knowledge and I started looking at old videos of previous VFs and then realized that the shit people bitch about in FS has been in older VFs. Even if you could break 4TE like nothing most characters had 5-6 inputs (grapplers for instance) so you still had 2 directions that could still work. I wouldn’t mind seeing them return though as they are fun to do, if that’s your thing. More options is never a bad thing.

I love this game.

Using this logic, anyone who doesn’t play football is not a part of the community. All those commentators and other people who don’t directly play professioally don’t count.

ARE is dumb as hell and some things are still too safe. That’s usually what people mean when they talk about Final Showdown being “dumbed down.” That or easy throw escape things.

In a way MTE dumbed down VF more than its removal. It covered too many options. With Final Showdown they turned it into 1-in-3 chance for breaking a throw, which is much better given that you can still escape throws from a failed evade. It’s made worse coupled with the other ARE still present.

1.When I’m having fun and ppl ruin it by calling me names and get abusive over nothing and threaten me
Also when ppl complain about the characters I choose I try not to pay no mind until they scream at me and then I let it before A while

  1. When ppl stare at you constantly while your playing lmaooo and think it’s cute
And they feel like I have no idea what I am doing

  2. I get it some ppl can be completive but at the end of the day having fun is where it’s at win or loose you should still be having fun I can careless if you are better then me, I procrastinate when it comes to practice but at te same time. I try my best to atleast win some matches
4.when ppl think loosing will help you learn how to win? Like are you confused do you want me to win or encourage me to do horrible
Thankgoodness I have a drill sargent/ holocaust surivior who pushes me the extra mile to do better and he can be a scary man when it comes to tourneys!

  3. Finally when ppl criticize you on everything when it comes to video games on a constant base gets MADD annoying but why let it get to me it’s just trash talk and ppl teasing you out of their on insecurities like wtf lol have FUN that’s all nothing wrong with that!

Play to win. I can’t hate on this mentality, if they’re trying to be a competitive player.

GTE is cool since it gets blown up easy, but it’s still a nice tool to teach beginners that you always do two things during defense and never just one thing. By ARE, do you mean ARM? I don’t use that and prefer to use stepping patterns and Evade Dash Guard at the very least. The only shit I hear is how FS “promotes spamming” and “defense is useless”, wish I was kidding. Maybe dudes are troll. I remember one of the complaints when 5 dropped was the ARM was nerfed. Preferred dash canceling either way.

Sometimes you just do better with a lower tier character due to certain reasons like playstyle and specific matchups, if you can’t bring out what makes a top tier character top tier then that isn’t going to help you win.

Add to that that tiers aren’t always static as new stuff gets discovered and people figure out how to defend certain things properly and you have a good case for just picking the character you play the best and are most effective with. (Which may well still be the top tier, but it also may not)

after you lose so many matches you get down on yourself and want to quit with that philosophy, trust me.

I

well then play better…

I hate the advice more than the mentality. The character I usually choose end up being High-Low Mid and there is always that one guy that will suggest for me to use this so and so character because they are better/good/have more options/can do this/etc.

Does not mean I will win. I prefer choosing characters I like. It ends up being the right character for me 100% of the time. I’m serious.
