Things That Annoy You About Fighting Games and the People that Play Them

Post em.

Mine:
"#FGC" is a huge one for me.
It doesn’t sound right. It sounds forced. And it makes it seem too mainstream honestly. Twitter is a site about self promotion and it’s like what Fighting Gamers do is almost being commoditized and made overly mainstream. It’s nice that more people are getting into it but seriously, does everything need to be twitter-fied?

Issues at At tournaments. Organization problems due to the organizers and managers playing the tournament as well. Issues related to the tournament organizers/bracket people calling people by their net name but not specifying a simply to come to a station (mainly an issue at the last one I was at.). Tournaments being in the middle of some rather awkward settings.

“Hype” becoming “scores of men reaching nigga-moment capacity”. see mvc2.

Filipino champ using Nigga every other word.
Fchamps’ voice while saying Nigga
Fchamp in general being irritating.
Fchamp saying nigga while being filipino.

Commentators that just talk about their breakfast or some woman or whatever irrelevant topic while there is a match going on.

a lot of things about sf4. such as people purposely getting hit to fill ultra meter and then getting 70 percent damage off a single punish. it was supposedly back to basics and yet it is quite frankly the most technical sf in regards to links, frames, etc.

people playing marvel or whatever and then shying away from 3d fighters like vf for being “too technical”. or playing sf4 and calling vf too slow. vf5 is pretty darn fast.

People who use the term “Post-09er”.

People who whine too much.

cough

“[Game] is dead”

“I’d play if the game’s scene gets/was big” from like 100s of different people. This really irks me because they don’t realize if they all played, the game’s scene would be the size they want.

People that stop playing a game when a patch/update/new version is announced. You’re going to have rust and new stuff to learn instead of just new stuff to learn.

When a new update/version has its run and is agreeably worse than an old version yet, keep playing which may end up shrinking the player base over time.

Post-09ers…and 09ers.

Just mentioned over the weekend at a tourney and in another thread but VF is the fastest in terms of pace. 1-2 hit exchanges, 45sec timer that is an actual 45 seconds, DA DAMAGE. Maybe SEGA will go back to the 30 sec one timer of the old games for the next one, haha.

People using the N-Word that aren’t black will always be corny.

My biggest peeve are people in your area who don’t show up to shit but just play online. Logistics can be the biggest hurdle due to life and that’s fine, its just when people bitch about online, and don’t show up to shit when they have the time, is just nasty.

Revisions. SEGA and ArkSys need to tone it down BIG TIME the next go around. Granted the VF5 revisions were like full blown sequels compared to other game BUT there were several revisions WITHIN those revisions as well >_<.

I wanna see a split cam view of a loooooong combo between the player getting hit and the actual combo. Nothing is more awesome than watching someone sit there like an asshole while the other dude is going off on the controller!

People who play games only if there’s a lot of money in the pot.
While I respect people trying to get some something tangible out of this. You have to realistic here. How many “Pro” FG players do you know that live by THEMSELVES in a home and are able to upkeep it with their winnings in FG’s?

No one.

So please, play the game b/c of enjoyment and not because you think you’re gonna be the next justin wong, winning shit left and right.
Once some dude is living on his own in a nice home and is making it happen with income from FG tournaments, then we can start taking FG’s super seriously.

Until then, get off your ass and get yourself a job.

But GG and VF5FS wouldn’t be as good as they are without them…

People starting threads in FGD complaining about words being too popular.

It really happens a lot lately.

You know what REALLY grinds my gears?

People that make threads about people that make threads.

That’s true but at the same time, I feel it would benefit the game without so many, getting the design in a quicker more effecient way would benefit the game more. After so many people will lose interest I you always have to keep up with them no matter how balanced.

People that want non game breaking glitches to be patched once they’re known. Last I checked, some the best known mechanics, techniques and even moves begun life as a glitch.

Honestly, this is really just the way he talks in casual conversation, and it really isn’t helped by the fact that the black people he hangs out with seem to be okay with it.

This. It seems that newer folks just don’t seem to understand the “arms race” that is part and parcel of playing these games competitively.

IMO, they really should just label shit as sequels. Arc has been really bad in this regard with BlazBlue to where folks are confused on whether BBCP is a sequel or just another revision (it’s the former, but try convincing people that it is).

That’s one of the reasons I didn’t pick up BB after the first one, is having to keep up with releases. You make too many and it just seems like they don’t know what they are doing. Final Showdown is the best fighter this gen and a HUGE improvement in design over Vanilla and R, but how long did it take? Granted there are more VF players than people realize, especially compared to other niche games(there even a world tourney going in sponsored by Sega and Mad Catz right now), but the numbers are still small thanks to the constant revisions and people sick of waiting wondering if we are going to get it. The lease only option didn’t help them in Japan, but having to follow up with the success of the 4 series was no easy undertaking in the first place.

Another one is DLC characters. Even free ones. Almost bought TTT2, but passed because I still wouldn’t have a full game after the $60+.

Lack of modes and features in comparison to past versions.

People that complain about DLC characters and Revisions, is one of the stupidest things to complain about.

No man it’s legit. It’s not the revisions themselves as much as its the amount of them, that’s a turn off. DLC characters are a legit one because it’s not like it’s 2 years later and they come out it, the time of the release at which they come out.

Sucking at a game thus calling it a bad game or dead.

People that don’t keep their salt in their salt shakers.

Making some huge story or excuse why you lost a match.

People who complain about Arcsys revisions better be complaining about all the different Street Fighter IV games and about Ultimate MVC3. Otherwise they’re just having a double standard. That’s not directed at you, that’s just saying.

Speaking of Arcsys though (kinda), I hate the double standard and stigma against Air-Dasher fighters for being “too anime” and therefore awful games. I also hate that the double standards and stigmas come from people who play Street Fighter and Marvel. SF is not only anime-like in a lot of ways, but has has anime about it, and Marvel speaks for itself. I just hate when people are inconsistent with things they hate and what’s acceptable/unacceptable, such as “it’s okay for Capcom, but not for Arcsys”.

Personally, I like DLC revisions. Cuts out on having to buy a new disk, identifies it as a revision (not a sequel), and saves people from having to buy characters individually.
