Play to win has less to do with tier placings and how you fight.
I can pick sentinel and try to rush you down with fancy fly/unfly/refly combos but why waste my time doing that when laser flyxxunfly laser and drones+commando will work?
Basically, do whatever is necessary to beat the opponent.
-People who complain about players doing the same combo over and over again.
If I can do lots of damage with a simple Day 1 Sentinel BnB in UMvC3, why should I bother learning more complicated combos, especially if a game has an unstable netcode? Just to show off? It’s one thing if a hard combo is more damaging, but why should I refrain from doing a simple combo that’s EFFECTIVE and I want to win a match as quickly as possible?!
-People who think it’s a bad thing to “play to win”.
If I’m worse than a good player, why should I get an easy win? It’s very satisfying to beat players who understand the game better than I do. If I was playing football and I whined about the other players not letting me score a goal then I would be considered an annoying weakling. I hate sore losers.
It’s the problem that people don’t really get this whole ‘game’ thing.
If your only goal is to win and you can’t have fun without winning the maximum number of times, then you’re a dummy for not playing a top.
If you enjoy a particular characters playstyle and don’t mind (or even enjoy the challenge of) struggling some, you’d be a dummy to have less fun just to win.
Which leads to another thing that really annoys me. People trying to enforce an orthodoxy.
Both people who say playing low-tier MvC2 is sucky and scrubby *and* people who say people who only play god-tier teams are losers who are afraid of losing (or whatever the anti-top tier argument is, you don't hear it much anymore), they're all doing the same thing and that same thing is** annoying as fuck**.
I’m not sure how ‘its annoying when people tell others how they have to enjoy the game, regardless of which side they’re coming from’ is a false dichotomy at all.
In fact it’s not a dichotomy at all, more “this obnoxious behavior transcends things like ‘sides’”
when I first started fighters, I am beyond competitive, I kinda gave up on myself because I was bad. I think that is a horrible philosophy, it is okay to be competitive but to a certain point, it is ridiculous.
you are missing my point; the philosophy of winning is everything is a terrible one for beginners, play to learn, play to have fun, enjoy it, etc. is a more suiting one
-Guile/Iceman/tronne players: it’s 2012, don’t be mad when you lose cause you picked shitty-ass characters. Also, up-back icebeam with iceman doesn’t work. stop wasting my time and yours, cause we both know you’ll just quit after the second “FINISSSHHHH”
