But the new boxset is lovely
Hearts dethcoptas

Uh, recently the Eldar and Space Orks have gotten pumped in power level in a big way. Ork players are beating MEQ players left and right now. The two armies that are really hurting are Imperial Guard (getting redone soon) and Dark Eldar (hopefully getting redone soon). I understand the rules aren’t perfect, but you’'ve got sand in your vagina.

You don’t happen to play Chaos by any chance?

Well GW giveth and GW taketh away…

…but yea horde armies get a huge bonus as now 5th ed. makes it possible to get cover saves like 90% of the time. That makes Orks and Tyranids very scary now despite their shitty armor. They used to die by the dozens before now… just scary.

Orks don’t just benefit from the 5th ed. rules, their new Codex boosted them from well, Dan tier to Ryu tier.

Eldar Pathfinders are gonna get 2+ cover saves anywhere. Otherwise it’s their new Codex that made them better, as the 5th ed. rules don’t change to much about them. They’re still good in their specialized ways.

Surprise, surprise, however, Space Wolves have gotten Even Better. The new way counter-attack rules work (which is really only used by Space Wolves and a few other SM units) makes them ridiculously dangerous, almost Broken tier…almost. They still fall to the Farseer-Guide Snipers, Doom Space Wolves; Pathfinder-Shooting combo quite nicely. Still my Win / Loss (Draw) to Wolves is 2/4(5)

There a lot more examples of how things were given. The best example of something taken is now glancing hits can never destroy a vehicle in 1 shot. That reduces the power of those fucking Necron Gauss weapons ('bout damn time if you ask me). Even though, against Necrons, my Win / Loss (Draw) is 6/1. Their lack of template / blast weapons, vehicles, easy to avoid special characters, and the phase out rule make them pretty easy for a good take-all-comers Eldar list to beat (even with the “Get-Up” rule and 3+ saves).

Yes and no. With BS2 Rokkit Launchas still being our main form of anti-tank, the added tank survivability is going to be brutal. Granted, I can still charge in with Nobz or a Warboss for a power klaw attack (which automatically hits rear armor now) but to do that effectively I’d need bikes.

Any Ork player will tell you that nothing kills our list like armor does. I’m not looking forward to playing against a bunch of Rhinos/Predators/Land Raiders any time soon.

Also, what the fuck is happening with the 4+ cover save bikes get all the time and the 4+ cover save the Kustom Force Field gives all units near a Big Mek? I’m thinking with the already abundant cover saves these advantages are going to become less worthwhile. I’ll probably switch my Big Mek w/ Kustom Force Field to a Big Mek w/ Shokk Attack Gun.

Speaking of the Shokk Attack Gun, horde armies are also not going to like the auto-hits from templates. I wouldn’t say it’s a huge draw back, you can still technically kill more points worth of MEQs with template weapons, but they’re more likely to survive.

The new boxset looks dope. I’d wish GW would have the stones to not include the Space Marines as one of the armies, though. We always see SM vs. X. Why not Eldar vs. Necrons? Orks vs. Imperial Guard? There are lots of cool matchups in Warhammer 40k that could be taken advantage of right from the start, Orks vs. Space Marines is not really very exciting.

You should post up your Eldar list, Yamizaki.

The fact that there is a dread AND terminators with the marines is more shocking than them not including marines IMHO

And indeed Armor ruins an ork players day, especially since they took away our looted ordnance.
Necrons with monoliths are almost ridiculously unfun to play against.

Orks suck, they took out all the fun and flecibility of the RT and 2nd edition orks and made them into a mediocre combat army. Bad Space Elves, Tau, and Space Undead killed the fluff.

On the other hand the Good Space Marine Codex is comeing out and all the things they took away from the Bad Space Marines they gave to the Good Space Marines along with a bunch of other shit. The game is still shitty, which I why I play AT-43 instead of 40K good rules and Gorillas in Power Armor. What more could you want.

Frankly other than the loss of the more esoteric ork units (genestealers, etc) orks are and have been fun. Hell making them as combatty as they were in 3rd gave the basic ork more character than they ever had in RT/2nd (sculpts aside mind you).
At-43 is however still the better game.

Sorry, but you are dead wrong. The Orks were a shooty army with off the hook devices and some combat ability. They had more character in the toned down 2nd edition than every army in the shortbus 3rd, 4th and 5th editions.

Thank god for fantasy, they remained fun and competative. That was until they nerfed my poor orks. So it is back to Daemons and Lizards.

^ take it easy folks opinions are opinions. besides of all the accents orkz have the coolest one and the most swaggah.

I haven’t played WHFB since I moved to Japan. Can anyone tell me how the VC and TK fare these days?

VC recently got a new book which is quite nasty. They play similar but not the same as in 6th edition

New Stuff:
No more bloodlines or necromancers (lvl 1 only). Have some bloodline flavored units like the Vargulf think regenerating Strigoi thrall and Blood Knights which are frenzied (sucks) that replace the killy Blood Dragons. You can also take units of Wraiths again, which is deadly nasty against some armies These are rare choices. Other new things include the Corpse Cart that you stick a lvl one necromancer on it can cast the hellish vigor spell for ASF, and you can pay for either a -1 to cast for all enemy wizards in 24" or +1 wound when casting within 6 "

Old Stuff. Grave Guard Rock, you can slap a banner on them and have them at 2+ to hit with killing blow. Black Coach is more random with a d6 determining what happens (one result makes it fly) You can take your units over their original strength and the characters are not bound by the 100 points usual for lord choices.

The people I play tend to build nasty characters and summon the hell out of zombies, so it is normal march blocking, flank charge, outnumber = fear strategy. They have gone up big time on frustration with points denial often spending the last turn fluffing units to over 50%. You must protect your vampire, so they tend to hide behind units and away from killy things.

TK are the same as in 6th edition. Big units of horses/chariots spam movement and summoning incantations break with outnumber/fear with extra units like Bone Giants/Casket of Souls/Ushabti/Tomb Scorpions for fun.

big 8gb patch up now for WAR beta testers. looks like I might get in this time around since this is guild beta along with gamesday code peeps. My god I hope so, I can’t take much more WoW.

and remember for VCs take a corpse cart and pay 200 points to do nothing vs. High Elves.

The new VC book makes me even more sad that I picked O&G. Why did my army have to have the armybook written by a child? We have some fairly good stuff and a lot of mad expensive stuff. There’s basically no reason to take regular goblins, almost everyone would go with Night Goblins. The only reason you’d use regular goblins is because every list basically requires Wolf Riders.

I feel our Animosity rule wasn’t accounted for heavily enough. 1 in 6 units will do nothing on average. That should equate to a bit more leniency in points cost in my opinion but we still have a bunch of really expensive units for what they do. So everyone just takes a shit ton of Boyz, Night Goblins, & Wolf Riders as a list with some toys attached. War machines are also required, since they’re priced reasonably. (2 for 1 spear chukkas admittedly is a nice little perk)

That’s bullshit. I shouldn’t be paying 17(?) points for a Boar Boy, the Empire cavalry at 15(?) points is strictly better in every aspect. The only way I can make him worth while makes him charge the nearest motherfucking enemy that he can see. Aggravating.

Blorcs also no longer aid other units near them, making them just another overcosted unit. They could’ve shrunk a few points in cost and been much better.

I also like the fact that Cairn Wraiths rape the O&G list. I don’t honestly know how I’m supposed to win against a magic-heavy competent VC general. Someone enlighten me on this.

I think I’m going to start playing Empire.

*Sorry, I’m really stoned right now, if my points totals are off make fun of me.

Night goblins themselves are still overcosted and little more than fanatic delivery systems.
At least the choppa isn’t trash anymore.

Goblins interrupt line of sight, and sometimes that’s enough.

Pre-E3 2008: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II Preview…get hype.

You defintely right about templates against horde armies now. Anyways my list is usually:

Farseer: Witchblade/Sprit Stones/Runes of Witnessing/Psychic=Doom,Fortune

Avatar: Rock Solid with the 12" No Fear radius :woot:

Dire Avengers: 10 man, Exarch with regular Power Weapon, Shimmershield and Bladestorm x2 squads

Pathfinders: typically 6 man, their higher AP1 chances then regular snipers RUINS Terminators at range. It is so awesome to take 3 out of 5 'em out at range in a single volley. I hate Space Wolf Terminators and their damned Runic Charms…

Scorpions: 9 man (only have 9 minis), Exarch with S-Claw and Stalker. I say that’s the Eldar’s best CC choice; 3+ Save, possible Infiltrate, 3D6 thru rough terrain and 3 S4 attacks. Really I need all the 3+ Saves I can get in an Eldar army.

Warp Spiders: 10 man, Exarch with Withdraw, Power Blades and 2x D-Spinners (no deep strike shit)

Falcon: with BL and Holofields to ferry Banshees

Banshees: Cost effective power weapon squad but ONLY carried in Falcons

Fire Prism: If you know it’s weapon, 'nuff said.

Autarch: rarely used but if so, Cheapo, Power Weapon, Mandiblaster and D-Spinner (95 points), roll him with Scorpions to supllement their volume of hits with his quality AND quantity (5 power weapon hits at I5 OR 6 I think)

I got Fire Dragons, Reapers and Guardians but I don’t use them much. I only once used my Hawks, I wasn’t impressed. Wraithguard, D-Cannon teams, and War Walkers I just don’t have

Warhammer online stuff…

MMORPG.com has learned that a decision has been made to reduce the number of Capital Cities at launch from six down to two. Altdorf (Empire) and Inevitable City (Chaos) will stand at launch as the Capitals not only of their race, but of their faction as well.”

"The four careers that are going may surprise players (and even includes one of Marks personal favorites). The list is as follows:

Choppa (Greenskin)
Hammerer (Dwarf)
Blackguard (Dark Elf)
Knight of the Blazing Sun (Empire)
This means the removal of two tanks and two melee DPS classes. "

Nooooo!! Losin careers and cities to get it out on time. I’ll still be playing but dammit I wanted to walk through Karaz a Karak!! The class thing doesn’t bother me too much as they are still coming in some form or another and I didn’t plan on playing any of the ones they cut.

I’m actually lookin into starting Warhammer 40K tabletop. I know two people in the area who are gonna start with me. One’s playing Tau, the other 'Nids. And I have been completely stumped for the longest time about my first army choice. Obviously, I don’t want to go with the same thing either of my friends are picking. That’s just lame.

I kinda want a difficult, yet rewarding army. Dark Eldar comes to mind and having a rape party once I get the hang of it sounds fun but I’ve been recommended to keep the hell away from them at first. I’m not really too interested in normal Eldar or any of the Marine type armies to be honest… While Necrons seem cool, apparently they only have one way of being any good which is absolutely boring.

I’m thinking about doing a Chaos themed Imperial Guard army (Since LatD are illegal now…) and have lots of fun with conversions and whatnot. Gonna use some fantasy Chaos Beasts as Rough Riders, have some gross, Nurglic Guardsmen, etc.

Or maybe before we make the plunge I can try to convince them that Fantasy may be a better choice? It’s a bit more well balanced, right?

Wait… Seriously? That’ll address the whole “What happens if one conflict is way too unbalanced?” deal but seriously? That will take SO MUCH flavor out of the game. Unless those other cities get released later…

Edit:
Are there any tier lists for TT? Won’t really influence my choice but just curious.
