Before you start an IG army, know that it is a bitch to paint all those little guys.
My recommendation is to not start with an army based on conversions. While the idea sounds cool, if you haven’t seen the models in real life before, they’re tiny. And conversions are a bitch. Unless you’re just going to paint them in their Chaos colors.
I don’t play Fantasy, but I can tell you that it’s deeper, more well-balanced, and probably more fun. 40K got really simplified - the magic phase got thrown out, armor saves don’t make sense, and everything’s more in moderation.
(and seriously what the fuck, why are Chaos Demons a separate list now? Do i have to buy another army now? rape me harder GW)
And to Irennicus: I understand your complaints, and I won’t try to defend them by giving counter examples. However, in my opinion, 40K really isn’t designed to be a competitive game - for almost any list there’s a possibility of exploiting the army and building a near unstoppable force.
It would be reasonable for GW to at least try and keep the game fun, balanced, and deep, but the new updates are really killing it. (The new CSM Codex sucks)
That’s how I see it, because I really just like the models anyways.
Watch them pull a fast one and put in Chaos Daemons instead of Chaos Space Marines. Tyranids probably won’t happen and that’d just feed the whole “STARCRAFT RIPOFF LOLOLOLOLOL” belief… But chances are the last one’ll be a Chaos faction… And most likely Chaos Space Marines. If they even do another faction.
Just imagine some Carnifexes. Not sure how they could capture their versatility, though… They could be like Necrons in Winter Assault, though. That’d kinda suck but still be interesting.
Also about tabletop. I think I’m gonna go with Chaos Daemons first thing. They seem like they’d be pretty fun and usable in both Fantasy and 40K with plenty of personality in their own way.
Wonder if it will save the game. I was always a WHFB kinda dude even though I have a pretty large necron army. The thing that killed 40K for me was the players. They were EVEN WORSE then the WHFB guys. They pretty much were the WHFB guys, minus 20 years. So you take your pick… its lazers bundled with zits and teen angst/stupidity or magic bundled with bitter, balding, virgins.
Actually I just think WHFB is a better game. Who knows, maybe the new rules are great.
Fantasy is a better game balance and rulewise, however the players in FB are a 5 tiers above 40K. I could take a windup list in 40K to a tournament and end up with a 3-0-2 drunk and not paying attention. If I did that at any of the big Fantasy tournaments I would be massacred no matter the list. Do you ever play on the Indy tournament circuit? Avoid official tournaments because they began to suck about 5 years ago.
RTT’s can be great, depending on who runs them. A well run tourney will have the orginizer say ahead of time if they make a ruling that is it, they also provide outlets for negging measuring nazis and the guys who talk a lot during thier turn to try to run the clock out. The funniest story I have heard about a tourney wasone player who ended up unzipping his pants and plopping Mr Holmes out. His opponant was cheating and being a TFG so he told him “You may as well suck it since your fucking me up the ass.”
There is a warhammer online beta and I am in it. that’s about all I can say due to NDA DoW2 looks too good though! BTW, does anyone know of any shops still selling the dwarf army box? I had to drop my shit due to being unemployed and am looking to rebuild. thank god I didn’t sell my Gotrek and Felix mini’s I don’t think I would have recovered from that.
EDIT: oh, and I’ll have 3 of those Gazbag mini’s when the collector’s edition of WAR drops. I don’t play greenskins so I’ll prob be selling them when the time comes. I’ll post up when they are in in case anyone is interested.
