The Ultra Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread

Interesting about Rolento originally being German. When did Capcom retcon him to be American? Are there any other examples of retconned Nationalities? I seem to vaguely recall something about Guy being originally listed to be from Japan and then changed as being from America.

I though Carlos Miyamoto was originally Venezuelan, but I may be mistaken.

I don’t know if was ever specified, FF profile left it as generic “south america”, i guess him as brazilian is all about SFV new profiles

Will have liked him to be something else (Argentine, Venezuela, Colombia etc) to get one more nation rep, but to be fair the japanese surname make sense with Brazil more than any other south american nation

Dude, that’s freakin’ awesome, where’s that from?!

Ooh, these are some treats! I always thought Rolento was German American, also I’m curious if the newspaper has anything interesting in it. Hoping for some details on Cody’s spiral and maybe something about Jessica.

Well, Peru has a sizeable population descended from Japanese. Even one of their former presidents, Alberto Fujimori, was of Japanese origin. But yeah, I’d like Capom to get their heads out of their butts and stop making either Brazilians or Mexicans only.

I just screenshotted the picture from the R25 Artbook scans I’ve downloaded but it’s from Capcom Calender 2012. Unfortunately when I try put them into my Mega folder the quality is horrendous so I’m just keeping them around on my phone.

I don’t doubt latin America got others japanese communities, but Capcom’s boner for jap-brazilians (Sean, Laura, Oro living there) is a bit justified, see the birth of brazilian ju jitsu or more recently the Machida (karate/MMA) family… Japan greatly influenced Brazil’s rich martial arts history

It does’nt help much the nationality variety but in this case i give them a free pass

About Mexico

T.Hawk - well, this could have been better as USA, but considering many were already was nice move to get a bit of variety

El Fuerte- Well, this was 100% spot on

Necalli- this SHOULD have been Mexico (Atzec), much better than usual “unknown” bullshit we got

Still 24 days of dead updates lol

How the hell do you have a character from venezuela that has Miyamoto as his last name

That’s like having someone named Chris and saying he’s from Zimbabwe

This a company that has someone from Brazil named Sean. I have never met anyone named Guile in my life.

T. Hawk was always kind of a cheat, he is by all intent and purposses a Native American that crossed over to Mexico when his land was taken by M. Bison. I always thougth of El Fuerte as the first true Mexican reprsentative for SF.

Except that there are people called Christopher/Chris in Zimbabwe and other Christian African countries so not the best analogy.

Well, they came to Venezuela many years ago it seems. It all started with oil and petroleum

Before the relations between Venezuela and Japan, in 1894, it would be approved by the National Congress, the immigration law, the state would protect European, American and Asian citizens (especially Japan) to be able to immigrate to seek quality of life and strengthen the bilateral relations

The Japanese-Venezuelan relations began in 1928, when a Japanese merchant named Seijiro Yazawa (worker of the oil company Nihon Sekiyu) traveled to Venezuela, where the government of Juan Vicente Gómez authorized the tender to open new oil fields on Lake Maracaibo for the exploitation of its oil resources in this area west of the country. The Nihon Sekiyu company won a tender in the southern part of the lake with an extension of about 200 km and Yazawa was in charge of supervising the works. Several Venezuelan workers managed by the Japanese were hired to exploit oil fields, transfer the oil to the United States and take it to Japan, and build a branch office of Nihon Sekiyu in Maracaibo, which served for almost 23 years.

That’s because Sean was obviously initially thought as an American. And Guile’s name derived from JoJo’s villain J. Geil, because in Katakana the German geil (“horny, crazy”, all adjectives reflecting the character) and the English guile are written the same way (ガイル gairu). They simply messed up the final transliteration into English - and for the better, because the original was a psychopath that I wouldn’t want associated with Guile in any way. Incidentally, there’s a good chance J. Geil named Final Fight’s J too… J. Geil first appeared in JoJo in October 1989, a few months before FF’s first launch in December of the same year.
Thus, JoJo gave Guile his name and his hair (via Polnareff); both facts were acknowledged by Noritaka Funamizu in Street Fighter X Tekken Artworks.
Cody’s article coming in a few minutes…

Wich links with basketball and easy access to Ken.
Sean switch to being brazilian just worked better for their cast building adding more nation variety

I remember read the wiki(while not being perfect) mentioned there was an interview confirming that

I know Sean’s origins. He was my favorite character in NG and SI. Then 3S happened  Guile’s name is ill fitting. The term doesn’t suit him at all. Bison has a lot of guile.

Well, let’s see the glass half full: would you’ve preferred him named HORNY in German? :stuck_out_tongue:

Well I don’t know German and I do know what guile means so…

An update for those who’ve asked me for the SFIV sound box OST collection. MP3 @ 320kbps files have been added if you want smaller files but still great quality!
