EX Series, what does that have to do with Street Fighter. We counting the Street Fighter The Movie game now too
Nash story was terrible for a character that everyone is invested in even with the new moves his dead again.
The characters that were better in SFV story was Dhalsim, Zangief and Balrog.
The problem with everyone is they want thing to move forward and the things to drastically change every game and thats were the problem begins and probably would make things complicated for the characters.
We had discussed this over and over, people still didn’t get it.
Sagat and Nash stories were Alpha 3 rinse and repeat. They added NOTHING new. Sagat already understood Ryu by the end of Alpha 3, so why make him suffer from the same “disease” that Ryu did 6 games after (counting Alpha) Sagat lost to Ryu because of it? To make things worse, Ryu already cured that disease in the same game that Sagat is starting (again) to understand his condition. What has Sagat accomplished by learning about the SnH in this game when Ryu is already over it??? What the hell is the purpose? To introduce the lamest character ever that is Kage of course.
As for Nash, he had next to no interaction with Guile. His coming back to the SF universe was a big surprise for me and as a huge fan of the Alpha series, I was really looking forward to how his story was going to play out. They had all that build-up with Nash’s trailer and then the general story trailer, but nothing worthwhile happened. I hated that he had to die again, but dying without accomplishing anything at all? WTF Capcom? There is no indication that Ryu couldn’t have beat Bison without Nash’s sacrifice and that’s bullshit. Nash came back to die without doing ANYTHING AT ALL. It was a complete rip off of Alpha 3 Guile ending and Alpha 3 did it better. Nash actually took down Bison there.
SFV is easily the worst SF storyline-wise (and in many other aspects) for me.
As I’ve said since the beginning of time, I’m more annoyed that Capcom decided to go away from the Nash depicted in the Character Story/Vs Mode and make him into a robotic ass character in Shadow Falls. Crazy how a short story and win quotes were better at portraying the new Nash than the cinematic story.
Keep in mind that I’m one of those who actually enjoyed the story. I just don’t like Nash’s portrayal in it.
Karin being some sort of goofy general bothered me a lot more.
Actually, that and Nash just blowing the fuck up. Dude just went boom, GGs, .
I wasn’t bothered by Karin’s role in the story. Only someone of her social status and resources can put together a GI Joe like team. Characters like Chun, Guile and Cammy were never shown to be leaders.
True but that doesn’t really she could be able to lead everyone together, having her just unite the characters while Chun/Guile lead the assault would be much better instead of Guile being Mr. Helicopter Guy.
Going on an tangent here but ASF has all the makings of an alright story. They just did the bare minimum with the ideas it had and we got a half-baked story. Also something about the cutscenes really made me cringe, that 6 hour long zoom in on Cammy’s face when she considers running away with Juri or the Mel scene were the worst offenders.
She’s the head of a zaibatsu. She’s already a leader. Judging from her character story and Ken’s she is also a leader within the fighter community. I wouldn’t trust Chun/Guile to lead an assault considering how piss poor their track records are.
I agree about Karin. Honestly, prior to his current condition, Nash was a leader. Guile has always been a follower. Nash would have actually caught Bison on his own if he weren’t double crossed.
I don’t agree with this, it’s one thing if Charlie was back for good and there was room for “our reunion will have to come after he mission, old friend”, but they killed him off at the end and didn’t even have an epilogue. I mean look at how Guile is in his SF4 intros and ending, he’s not a grunt and it’s the end of a conversation type. He’s actively talking to Charlie’s grave, he’s simple but still kind of eloquent.
He’s reflecting on his state of limbo, his actions causing his family grief. He may not say all this, but the guy thinks, they guy feels. Having something more to reflect Guile’s thoughtful side should have been done.
He’s still hurting and he’s waiting for some closure. I love Travis Willingham’s delivery of “It’s not time for a toast just yet old friend. The day will come…when our mission is complete.”
Look at their reunion in the city, absolutely NOTHING from Chuck (no recognition no confliction over having to beat up friends to get to his objective) and Guile treating this as “stand back ladies, another dangerous Shadaloo villain is here, but I’ve got him”
There wasn’t the horror and confusion of his years long battle to prove Charlie was alive, being corrupted. With all the things they’ve all seen, Guile didn’t think Bison pulled the dirtiest trick and make a clone or utilized his dead friend against him, he just was written to massively undersell everything. It kills me because they got capable talent in the voice department, I would have loved the effort that some of those quiet moments, like the family discussion Chun and Cammy got or the genuine friendship that developed between Chuck and Rashid to be employed.
No one is asking for a campy, teary reunion, but they never got at least one scene together, just them, reuniting as brothers and just coming to terms with the reality of it all. If I had my way, I’d take Charlie’s comment to Honda about being unable to properly taste and make it sting. While the heroes are discussing stuff at the Kanzuki place, Guile could have brought out Charlie’s canonical fav, whiskey. Showcasing that he can’t even enjoy it anymore would be a sobering touch to show just how miserable he is in this state. Things could get a bit of levity with Charlie joking that Guile’s a stubborn bastard for all these years of searching. Any of that would go towards humanizing storymode Charlie in spades. I’m not asking for a stirring Metal Gear Solid tragic scene, but c’mon, action movies have bits of sorrowful brotherhood that account for more than a nod. The arcade ending of Charlie did a better job of ending his story, sadly since it’s not canon, I have to deal with that being the end to one of my all time favourite characters.
I gotta agree with @Super_Sonic it’s disappointing that Charlie came back just to die again.
Like Doctrine_Dark, I liked the story mode contributions, but I was bothered by how robotic he was. Seeing him angry, unstable, driven, but being able to recognize Ryu’s similarity and power in his storymode, his quotes all were something. I could understand if he was a bit off at the start when first revived and then became vs quotes & storymode Charlie, but he was too stiff.
I could have accepted this all better if we had some kind of ambiguous fate for Charlie and then it shows in an epilogue that he’s still alive and going towards something else, setting up a darker, anti-hero direction in the future. I mean Kolin’s winquote oddly states " Oh, you’re … Were you hiding out this whole time, coward?*" implying that his presence in vs quotes is after ASF.
I liked his interactions with Rashid, but if we got a more animated Charlie, his cynicism about friendship and saving a friend could have led to some interesting places.
my tl;dr of this is I’m disappointed that this is the chapter close as far as we know for Charlie. If he wasn’t killed then the future could have worked around this. I enjoyed ASF overall but am disappointed about things like this. We all know Bison’s coming back years later, those of us disappointed in Chun Li’s portrayal will no doubt have a future chance for her to shine, Abel may have a chance to interact with Guile and actually do something in the future. There’s options moving forward, but with Charlie it’s murky, there are ways he could return or not even be really dead if they wanted, but they did nothing to set it up and with how they set up the actual ASF events, this looks like his last canon adventure as Charlie Nash.
The variant “stronzolo” is also pretty much restricted to Tuscany. The Tuscanian monthly satirical magazine Il Vernacoliere uses it.
Approximately “Turdy”, should we want an English translation…
Anyway, here are my CvS2 Bison’s quotes translations for @Doctrine_Dark, @Daemos and everyone else:
To Akuma: 貴様のからくりは 、とうに知れている 。「 殺意の波動」… 我が格好の餌だ!
All your tricks are already obvious to me. Satsui no hadō… is a suitable fodder!
Have you finished singing your funeral songs? Then die, and quickly!
Don’t think too hard, just continue to work as my underling!
My fists don’t flinch from lightnings. Bet you didn’t expect that!
I’m not impressed by your performance. You shall make up for your impoliteness by dying!
If we’re talking about the top of evolution, don’t forget to mention ME!
You aren’t but a mere puppet. Just break already!
To Chang: バカめ!
Fools! You are worth less than your own iron ball!

I don’t have spare time. And you meaninglessly wasted mine!

A lowly monkey boss of a filthy city seriously thought to win against the ruler of the world?
To God Rugal: this is puzzling. The lines you obtained (2) were reported differently in the Japanese site I saw (1), but the meaning was more or less the same. Interesting that your version reported Vega written as ヴェガ vega instead of the usual ベガ bega. I translated the first one only, but anyone knowing Japanese could confirm that the meaning is exactly the same.
Don’t misunderstand. No one can rule the world except Bison!

In the end, swords are tools to kill people. They’re evil, no matter how you use them!

Strength, technique, spirit… All silly talk. The strong one wins, that’s all!

Did you think you had a chance only because you didn’t surrender? Too bad!

Why must I be swarmed by all those insects? How unpleasant!

You crossed my sight. It’s enough reason to kill you!
You can dream dark dreams all you want. Eternally, of course!

Your path leads to a miserable death. I’ll crush all your hopes!
You can gather your men all you want, but scum won’t move the world. Go rot in the sewers!

Your life is worthless. I have this sudden whim to be merciful and bury you!
Show me this beauty you always blabber about. Don’t tell me it’s your unpresentable dying face?
You tried all your pathetic tricks, but you’ve seen the result. Stupid!
You didn’t bore me. Had you a soldier attitude, I would’ve considered employing you.
Soon you and your city will fall into my hands as well. I’ll decide then whether to crush it or not!
I think you’ve learned from this moment. The true meaning of fear, I mean!
My power consumes even entrails! You can’t train against that!
¹ That’s the meaning of “kyokugen” in Kyokugenryū. Leaving it as is wouldn’t allow the wordplay.
Neither was Karin but they still did it anyway. Sorry, it was a joke that military/international cops were following Karin. Way too much fanwank for her from the creators just made the awful stand out even more
Thank you so much @Midgardsorm
I like how Bison calls Sagat a loser in pretty much every game except SFV.
God’s work. Bless you darling!
Karin always carried herself with authority. She always takes the imitative in everything she does. This was true in her manga debut, Alpha 3 and now SFV. That is a trait of leadership. If it was an issue for the military man and international cop then they should have gotten their people on it. It’s far less of a joke than Juri being able to get from Brazil to London on a motorcycle or Cammy becoming an fugitive because she’s incapable of telling a cop she’s there on an investigation of her own.
Guile up in rank. Has to go through officer school for that.
Not a leader.
AYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I’ve edited my previous post to include Bison’s quote to Yuri, previously neglected.
Working on Sakura’s journey…
Pointing out other shitty stuff in the SFV story mode doesn’t make existing shit less shitty imo. I mean I respect your opinion though, but I stand by what I said. Having Karin lead these people was a fucking joke. SFV had good bones for a good story, but Capcom fucked up on so much shit that I am still in a bit of disbelief over how they mangled it so badly. Some of this stuff should have been blatant as hell over how some things should go down, but it’s like they just decided to go nonsensical at almost EVERY turn.
Putting together resources and funds for a military op and leading on the front lines are two different things. It’s why we don’t see politicians planning for skirmishes like Generals. I was fine with Karin’s home being a makeshift base of operations and her being the supplier of things, but her running a Zaibatsu and being a pristine rich martial arts girl type don’t make her better to lead than Guile or Chun Li.
Like Pertho said, Guile’s been going up in rank and has experience. Karin runs a company and has crazy martial arts prowess, that’s great and she’s an asset to the anti-Shadaloo squad, but she’s dealing with a global terrorist cell with a superhuman leader and insanely advanced technology. Guile and Chun Li aren’t rogue, they’ve got connections to upper brass and law enforcement and get their feet wet in situations that approach this as part of their professional career. They deal with crime, war, combat, soldiers, spies, etc.
Just because the characters are military don’t make them competent in a leadership role. Guile is a guy that’s defined by his quest to avenge his fallen friend. He goes solo and abandoned his family in order to do so. Guile doesn’t seem mentality fit to be on the case much less lead a squad.
