Tbh we already reached and passed that point, difference is Bison being a great design handled better being overused, Akuma being a stupid sprite edit even spammed less quickly tired with his tryhard bullshit, aside dat Baki-like jap crowd that maybe nod happy at both ultimate hero and ultimate villain being jap (wich is something that damage SF world credibility)
Not necessarily.
Bison hasn’t been the main villain since Alpha 3 that was almost 20 years before SF5. Capcom did the right thing in SF4 by doing a soft reboot of the series, bringing back a lot of old plots and reintroducing them to a generation who have long forgotten what semblance of lore we had in the 90s.
But now that Capcom has finally bridged the gap between SF2 and SF3, we should look to the future - Without repeating the mistake of SF3, which was cutting itself off from its roots completely.
Krauser had his great and bad moments
But got to give him credit for being the spiritual dad of one of best FG Bosses ever, Cervantes
Even if Cervy’s best design will ever be
This one to me share #1 Boss design with Alpha Bison and KoF14 Geese
Cervantes is the bastard child of both Krauzer and Bison. All that Psycho crushing came from somewhere.
He also levitate, have some telekinesis and he became a spectre-like being
The problem there was Seth sucking dicks as Boss
They could have done cool stuff with him (and Abel as destined nemesis of him), but they did’nt
For him they picked the WORST possible design they came up with, after dropping this wich was actual cool
He did’nt had much structure going for him aside that shitty lab stage. Juri, but Juri came late.
Bison had shadaloo+3 generals
Gill had Illuminati imagery/stage+godlike powers
End of story Seth was LITERALLY a Bison’s puppet who became crazy after being kicked in the head by Akuma.
That’s it.
That’s not how you do Bosses turnover, that’s just filler crap
Necalli is SFV version of it
Much greater design and potential interessing development absolutely wasted
G hopefully will be handled better
I thought Seth was an excellent villain actually, filler, but very well developed. He suffered from his gameplay appearance (really needed clothes on for at least the first round) and his moveset being recycled (even though that was part of his lore).
Seth and SF4 as a whole was also a set up for SF5 story-wise. If you take both games as having an actual continuity between them (the first time in the entire series btw), Seth makes a lot more sense.
Prior to SF4 and SF5, each numbered entry almost existed in its own universe with zero consistency. Seth was meant to lead into SF5 and Bison, and I firmly believe that the entire story of both games was more or less conceived as a whole 1-2 punch.
Bison might be powerful but Rugal has the charisma, appeal and character than Bison that is complicated.
What makes a successful Boss characters isn’t just strength and power.
Seth fixed everything of what Bison is nowadays away from the complicated theories of what he was in ST revival. It gave a different perspective by expand how the clone and technological capabilities of Shadaloo were in that period more than just genetic mutation that was were the whole idea of theories went through before SF4.
I don’t mind cestus continuously hating and bashing most of my wishlist character like Kage, Seth and Zeku because those were characters that meant to fix things and bridge gap they even had an appeal gameplay wise compare to his SFV ken’s new default upperbody that was just something of his bragging rights ego that he even put’s in his “forum sig” as something as an achievement but when people disliked it he then blames capcom, then tells fucked kens fans it’s cestus, then starts talking martials arts character should be SF but shills badly for the yoyo skinny teenage boy because he it was italian like him lol.
Reading how cestus multiple times(not just thrice but for the fifth time) just to desperately tries to shit on lucia from just seeing trailer, because I’m okay with the character, then he does another then another, but it started ridiculously like one flame move lol.
Spamming the thread again and again with hokuto no ken reference that pointed years ago by the OGs just to bury other comment and opinion doesn’t sense if you can’t defend your arguments, it just shows how your opinion are BS, reliable and weak.
I think Post-3S, G has some serious untapped main villain potential. The guy could end up being a monster.
I also think Urien’s darkest sides can make for an unhinged main villain if Gill’s story actually ended in 3S. He is the best thing to come out of the Illuminati after all.
I’d also like to see Capcom explore the female main villain trope at some point, beyond what they did to Juri. Probably could tie her into the Illuminati as a Matriarch figure or Hella-type sister to Gill and Urien’s Thor and Loki.
The fact that Seth was functional and subservient to Bison story/arc/figure is exactly why he did’nt provided the kind of Boss turnover SF need
As whole narrative he was just a Bison’s sub-boss with a paper crown
On other hand you got Gill who back then was’nt linked in any way to Bison and made people legit guess he can be just as powerful as Bison, if not more
To this day we still don’t know the answer
SF needs more second type in my opinion
I agree on him being best char, but he’s by design purposely not Boss, and i’m ok like that, his whole character concept live of that frustration.
Only thing i hope is they reveal in future story is him being purposely silly during the SF3 Chun Li challenge.
Maybe some type of bet like “a drop of blood and you won”, with her somehow managing to hurt him a bit and smiling Urien be like “congratulation you amused me, take the girl”
I hope not, but that’s just me lol
He wasn’t meant to be a boss turnover though. SF4 was a soft reboot, Seth was a well developed set up to Juri and Bison.
Gill while memorable, wasn’t remembered for all the right reasons. He was a massive departure for the series then. Most people did not like him, and he is still considered one of the least popular SF characters.
See this is a problem I have with villains in SF. I think for a villain to be taken seriously as a character in and of themselves (and not just be a plot device), they need to have their own development and reap the benefits of their path, but then also consequences.
For example -
In ASF, Bison could’ve actually decimated visibly more than one international city, and achieved final form which has been teased forever, then lose anyway.
Akuma should kill Gouken next time and believe that his philosophy won, then lose to Ryu but not before losing himself of course (Gouken: “I told you so”).
Necalli should’ve legit eaten some characters (Eating Akuma sorta counts but not really, although that fight was a nice self-aware commentary on Necalli as a whole).
Urien should overthrow his brother, and become the ruler he sought to be, then have it collapsed on his head anyway or worse, realize that his inferiority complex is still there even after he wins over Gill.
Gill actually successfully deceiving populations into believing he is the messiah, then have it backfire badly (crucified lol?).
The stakes with the villains need to get higher, and their points of view should be fleshed out. I saw a little bit of that in SF5’s Akuma, but not enough for the series. If we are going to keep seeing the villains have a recurring role like the heroes, as we should, then they need their stories to have development, consequences and rewards that impact their personality and fate.
Rose!!!
Also the fact that in KoF 14’s endings, destroying Verse causes pretty much every dead character in the series to come back to life.
Rugal wasn’t specifically shown, but tons of other characters were, and they all came back in random locations. So Rugal is PROBABLY also alive now.
When Regal does come back I want to see him feud with his son. There’s Tekken-esque family drama to mine there.
I think what will backfire Gill is Alex
Gill toyed with Alex doing the usual fake loss thing and he’s intrigued by something of him instead be SCARED of it, and did’nt took the chance of killing Alex when they fought to eliminate the treat he discovered*
He have dat god-complex that make him think ultimately he will ever prevail and any risk Is acceptable because it’s not a real risk
Alex at the moment Is not that great (see the fight with Ryu) but he’s often hinted to have good potential and great instinct… This combined with his “secret” will make him in future the man to destroy Gill, even a Gill actually trying to win lol
Like Bison and Akuma, Gill developed a curiosity for the fighter that one day will destroy him
*I think unlike from anybody else’s attacks Gill could not quick regenerate from damage caused by Alex.
Notice Gill in that period regular fake losses taking damage, but he’s ever like nothing happened.
Akuma even SGSed him, and still ok
Alex just gave him a beating (refusing to kill him) and after that Gill was weakened, needing to recover.
I think if Alex killed him “resurrection” secret technique will have not worked
Since he surfaced to speak to Vice/Mature in Verse’s win quote, he does appear to be one of the souls trapped inside of Verse. I guess we’ll see next yr.
I don’t think that’s canon. Also by the time of SF3, Akuma developed more lethal techniques than SGS.
I did Lucia’s SFV arcade mode. Carlos makes a cameo in the SFV ending. It got me wondering, it would be pretty cool if he was Lucia’s partner on the force. He doesn’t have a formal job like the other FF characters as far as I know. Why not?
Hey I’m down for anyone that isn’t blonde being added the roster at this point. I like Lucia but damn it would be nice if we got a redhead, another brunette, and/or someone with a different complexion. I fully expect Capcom to drop a Melanesian or Solomon Islander next season. A dark skin person with…blonde hair and blue eyes.
