The Ultra Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread

Honda’s gameplay is iconically bad, since SF2 he’s been the definition of boring turtle character that holds downback, does safe on block special and repeats. His other signature move being the also outdated piano input doesn’t help. He’s been a blank in all aspects (hype, charisma, moveset) and has failed to make an impression and not for a lack of appearances.

Hakan was the perfect replacement in terms of size and shape and got left in the dust. A reason why I don’t get excited about newcomers: even if I like them, Ono will be the first to throw them under the bus and say “Who?” by the next sequel.

This whole post hurts me with how misguided it is.

Honda is ALWAYS hype as all fuck when getting played. Ochio, good normals and hands pressure. Honda is a simple man trying to play some footsies, deal a combo’s worth of damage through chip and trying to sit on your face.

He’s doing all this while wearing a skirt.

I bet you couldnt use a toilet sitting down while wearing a skirt.

Your posting sparks no Ochio.

Ooh loved that “realistic” ssf2 art style.

Honda like Sim and Rog had been ususable for what they are. Even Honda had his moment in SF4. They may had bland personality along with narrative role of what they were in OG SF2 and SF4 but they have their on gameplay appeal even up to this day.

Unlike Ryu that had been obsoleted by Evil Ryu in SF4 and other projectile user like Guile in SFV.

I can agree so much with Hakkan I want to see that guy return.

I used to forgot that reference even I have read it a couple of times because Im more used more to Bison as referred to.

Yasunori Katō (加藤 保憲 Katō Yasunori )

In Megalopolis films because I used to watch it during my teens and I like it for the weirdness, mysticism and supernatural attached to it than Washizaki lol

This is why my Bison fanfic is more of a occult related person along that can lived through astral form and manipulate people to subconcious. Combined with Dr Doom because Doom is my favorite Marvel Villain.

This what makes mine different what Daemos prefer him as a Demon. While I prefer him as something like Doom but far more into mysticism and supernatural with a bit of science.

It goes deeper than that.

Washizaki and Bison were both inspired by Yasunori Kato, from the series Teito Monogatari. Kato is a demon given human form, who has been trying to destroy Japan through numerous supernatural schemes for centuries.

Glad youre pleased the Hondogs is back but we have had the complete World warriors in Alpha3, 4, and of course SF2. I’m over it.
Saying ‘Apprentice characters are wack’ is pretty close minded imo. It all depends on the implementation. Menat is a great example and on the opposite end both Zeku and Gouken were awesome masters. I cringe when people suggest adding Mel Masters so I’m not all about replacing everyone with a successor nor do I want to see Honda old and bald or killed off. Just would have liked to see a different take on a sumo without writing off Honda completely. The SF cast are peak human and in a fictitious setting so they should be viable and in peak form for many many years.

Apprentice characters are generally shadows of their masters and should be frowned upon. Rarely are they ever as good or stand out before their source.

And the SF2 characters though appearing in many entries, these were in most cases separated by vast amounts of time. If I have to wait 6-10 years between each entry you bet I want to see my favorite characters in every single time.

Also SF5 is the first time where the original cast really let loose and started to develop new and distinct characteristics. Their reinventions are proof that their foundations are strong and there are still plenty of life left in them.

The “Street Fighter 2 Turbo” portrait is from one of the console ports, not the arcade version. SF2HF’s portraits are identical to SF2CE and Dictator didn’t have the Skull and Wings on his cap in the arcade games until Super.

Incidentally, Dictator’s tentative name on the SF2WW planning document was Eagle Head, which might had been derived from Washizaki (whose name means Eagle Cape).

Why not just make a completely new and unique character then?

As it should be. The Original Eight should never not be in a SF game.

Honestly I don’t mind Ibuki not in SFV and replace temporarily by his friend or his boyfriend. Same case with Poison to Roxy.

Or they would inherit most of SFV ibuki moveset later for future SF if both of them would likely appear in one game title.

Same as Roxy having SF4 Poison specials and normals if both will appear in future titles too.

G was a really good example.

And Boxer was openly named “TYSON”. Claw was “ninja”. I think I already read these facts somewhere, but it’s nice to see the original proof.

Only the shitty ones are shadows. A good apprentice don’t get defined by who trained him. With Hwoarang for example I doubt most people know the guy is Beak successor.

Lol what? They are new and unique characters. You gonna tell me that Menat is not a new and unique character because she’s trained by Rose? C’mon now. Take a good a series full of good apprentice characters like Mortal Kombat. Tell me, is Frost identical to Sub-Zero? How much of a clone Takeda is of Scorpion? Is Jacqui just fem Jax?

I find your insertion ridiculous. It’s like saying Robin is a palette swap of Batman.

I did’nt said it
Apprentices can be good
On other hand i don’t like see people want to see Classic die to make space new generation, when often new generation can’t fill the shoes of theyr predecessors

Both Terry and Geese are infinitely better character designs though

New characters that are apprentices of old characters in the story? I see nothing wrong with that.

Apprentice characters who are supposed to replace old ones? Usually a bad idea, because fighting games are centered around their characters and you don’t want to do away with established designs or even just change them excessively.

The apprentices in SC5 were bad because they removed fan favourites to replace them with new faces that used the same movesets as their mentors, thus being the same stuff gameplay wise but without the designs that the fans loved. Menat is an apprentice done right because she’s first of all her own character and she doesn’t replace Rose which could exist in the game alongside her pretty well.
