The Ultra Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread

http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/release15.html

Actually it appears that Capcom were experiencing a tiny (emphasis on tiny) bit of financial growth during the development of SFV, if we are going by 2014-2016 as its development time.

It seems that the whole “financial troubles” argument was something brought up that got parroted enough that alot of people believed it.

@Super_Sonic Maybe instead of brooding about not tasting anything, Charlie should use seasoning next time. Could make all the difference.

Bison didn’t taste anything either when he ate his full power last resort blast :joy:

Where Charlie is going, he won’t need taste buds…

That’s not Charlie Nash. Thats Secret Society cloned army. I hope Nash original memories are kept and preserve as the ultimate anti shadaloo soldier.

Zombie Nash’s memories were downloaded and integrated into the next generation of Genome Soldiers to improve their capabilities in ever way over the Eleven model. Unbeknownst to the Illuminati however, they got more than they bargained for… And vengeance will be swift (Pun).

Charlie Nash is now legion. Tragically trapped in the cycle of the eternal soldier. And SF3’s Twelve was the first to awaken to this truth.

I don’t want Street Fighter to go full on Metal Gear.

Vs Mode Nash continuing to display far more personality than Shadow Falls Nash.

Two completely different characters. It’s night and day.

FYI, Poison’s St.MP, St.MK, and Love Me Tender (flip kick) are the totality of her Final Fight 1 move set.

We’re well beyond Metal Gear to tell you the truth.

Nash’s personality being downloaded into Twelve goes hand in hand with the universe’s dark themes of genetic engineering and transhumanism. The tragic nature of this twist also aligns with the character’s own sad arc and Twelve’s 3S ending.

Also who doesn’t want to see Nash/Army of Twelves rebel and attack Urien/Gill in a Frankenstein’s Monster kinda way. It also gives us a reason for Guile and co to remain involved in some capacity in the future story.

Just something random but I’d to put my thoughts on the new characters designs:

Poison: Just meh. It’s based on her classic outfit, which was compact and easily gave enough info on her character but at the same time I feel like there’s too much going on. Stuff like the one long sock and super short clothing is just a big no-no from me. Her hair also translates so badly into the SFV engine, it’s like another Alex incident. 5/10 prefer the story costume.

Lucia: It’s good to see other Final Fighter characters to appear in the game but…I wish it was Maki instead. Either way, Lucia seems like a fun character. She doesn’t look that unique, but she’s kind of hyper and energetic, which seems to be a far cry from her FF3 OG look where she looks more “hard” and “tough”. I definitely would have liked a more older, sterner Lucia. 6/10

Honda: Keeping him in touch with the OG SF2 was a good decision. He translates very well into the graphics engine. Love his story costume and it’s a nice tribute to an IRL person. 8/10.

So taking the very real possibility that 2020 will be the final release for SFV (with like 3 characters left), what do you realistically expect?

  • Sodom’s chances are much stronger now; if anything, he’s what ties this entire release together as I can see all 3 of these characters being his Story opponents. Rest of Mad Gear was either in SF4 or is irrelevant to SFV. Haggar and Maki’s chances are pretty low at this point.

  • The Illuminati and SF3 should get a little more setup now since we are only getting closer with SF6. Necro would check both boxes, but the NG characters and Makoto are all deserving of a slot.

  • As far as pre-SFV characters goes, main picks would be Fei Long, Rose, and Viper. I don’t see any of the others making it.

  • My main gripe with SFV gameplay was the utterly retarded focus on frame traps in a system that doesn’t make performing them or defending against them very interesting. Either some significant defensive mechanic (not saying focus attack, but something that could be used to eat a super predictable normal in a similar way) or a general dialing back of MP frame traps for most characters as well as making some of the more exploitable Crush Counters more reasonable would be huge. Either give everyone a 3f move or make things less punishing for the characters without one and the game would be actually fun. And for Bengus’ sake, let characters have some cool shit without VT. SFV is the only game where power creep would be a good thing at this point.

  • Novel idea here, add an “Extra Versus” where people can play around with silly shit like Dramatic Battle, NPC characters from ASF/Extra Battle, and tweaks like starting with full Super or air dashing. I think people would have a lot of fun with this, and it opens up the door for people who actually like the game to have a reason to boot it up once in a while after the community moves onto SF6.

I played through the new character stories. Judging from Lucia and Poison story modes Lucia has been retconned into the events of the original Final Fight. If she was working as a cop during that time it would make sense. Though it feels like the Skull Cross gang is being scrubbed

With Menat’s win quote and their interaction is Cody/Lucia going to be a thing going forward.

The rumor mill suggests:

November: 2 S4 Character Winter Bundle
December: 1 S5 Character + Game Upgrade

If the second part is true, that would leave the character select asymmetrical. Meaning S5 will either have 4 characters total, or it will have 6 characters total and there will be an S6 that has 2 or 6 characters total.

Or the Character Select Screen will change its design in 2020.

If S5 is the last character season, then my gut tells me there will be 4 characters only as production will start to unwind.

However SF5’s service model allows it to continue indefinitely so long as purchasing of DLC continues.

And regarding the SF3 set up that everyone seems to think needs to happen but I actually think already happened, there are a few elegant ways of doing it without overstepping (You can do more than 1):

1- Introduce Tom as a character and have his character story conclude with being approached/attacked by Gill/Illuminati.

2- Add Viper and have her story revolve around the aftermath of ASF and her new investigation into the Illuminati.

3- Introduce Gill’s Fire Herald™ and have his elaborate character story revolve around a more overt operation/campaign to kickstart the events of NG (with the help of Kolin). Perhaps going as far as kidnapping Chun’s kid in its conclusion.

4- Add Necro or Effie and have either of them behave like the equivalent of “Killer Bee” during this time period to contrast their “Delta Red Cammy” period in SF3. This showcases the extent that the Illuminati are going to to achieve their goals.

5- Introduce Gill as the final DLC character. But this would be anticlimactic IMO as we might as well save him for the future at this point.

F.A.N.G. to Lucia: “Be careful. Even cops can go missing. Nye heh heh.”

I thought about the many scientists and researchers that vanished prior to the Black Moons project going down. At first I assumed it was related to that, but everything after the S2 characters (even a few of them had their stories take place after Shadow Falls. Kolin and Menat were the only ones I recall from S2 that had a story taking place before Shadow Falls) appears to show that particularly arc being over.

I suspect there’s something else going down behind the scenes after looking at some of these quotes.

Falke to Lucia: “The police don’t need to get involved.”
Nash to Lucia: “I advise you to butt out. The police can’t handle what’s going down.”
Kolin to Lucia: “If you wish to live, I suggest you stick to being a regular police officer.”

Now Kolin’s could be chalked up to her usual cold self considering she hates cops in general, but the quote really comes off as a “Don’t stick your unwanted nose in things not concerning you or else”. Something is up. I feel like it’d be too convenient for it to be the Mad Gear, so there’s likely an unknown entity up to no good. Or it has something to do with the Secret Society. Possibly G. Neo Shadaloo is likely fighting against the threat.

So many directions they can go with this one.

Reasons to be in SFV:

Lucia has noticed an uptick in organized crime in Metro City. She brings her findings directly to the Mayor, fearing a reemergence of the Mad Gear or Skull Cross Gangs. Further study hinted at something else. Something with international implications. After meeting with a liaison from Interpol, Lucia would be working with Chun Li to infiltrate the upcoming World Martial Arts tournament to ferret out and neutralize this unknown criminal organization.
