The Ultra Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread

That’s what I’m thinking and am surprised at. I thought some of the Mad Gear folks would be itching for some chaos, but looking at Abi in particular, he’s really hardlining on going legit. So yeah, it’d be cool if G was trying to work his tendrils into different parts of the globe:

-Metro city madness that Cody’s been vague about and Lucia has a hunch on

-Blanka being screwed over by mysterious business

-If Karin launches the toruny, then having someone screw with that could be a possibility

-Using the new AE showbiz aesthetic to further catapult fighters and or G to a global stage.

There’s a lot of places they can go.

Nice. Is this the difference between classic and alpha?

Exactly, and none of them involve Shadaloo or the Illuminati thankfully. Although if Neo-Shadaloo make an appearance, then you know what will likely follow after.

Speaking of which, they really need to rebrand that group. It doesn’t seem like they are interested in created an “organization” from Falke’s story and interactions. Maybe they just want to be a gang of genetic freaks, like the early X-Men.

One of the biggest takeaways I had with all the new info actually comes from Poison’s story. They just straight up called the City in Chaos stage Metro City. Not sure what it means for New York in the SF world.

Metro City and New York overlap. We’ve known since the Alpha 3 world map in Arcade Mode.

But the extent of the overlap is a topic for debate. Are they synonymous? Neighbors? Why has Metro City survived ASF intact?

Yeah, the more info that comes out, the more I think that a new name should have been used. Ed and Falke so far just wanna get away from dictators and conquest, so yeah, they may wanna be a merry band of mutants like the X-men. Initially I though since Shadaloo is about shadows, I was thinking the opposite, something dealing with light, but then whatever I thought of sounded too Illuminati-subsidiary-like so a neutral, new name should have been cohsen.

A while back, I believe people in this thread noted that Metro City is supposed to be like Staten Island or another part of New York.

I do apologize for the cancer comment, that was made from the lens of “did this mf really just up and not show over a leak”, on which I appear to have been misinformed.

The leaks are unfortunate, but even before then I can only credit him with so much after months of amazingly poor communication and a lot of the decisions made with SFV that he not only signed off on, but clearly seemed to support. I have no doubt that Capcom has some contempt for him just for doing fighting games in the first place (which corporate is clearly against), and he’s done a good enough job getting Capcom to at least make new fighting games, but I think SF4 was the only successful title he had a major part in and after what Arc and SNK have managed to do in the past 6 years it is evident that funding isn’t even the SF team’s main problem at this point. There is some serious executive mismanagement going on, and I have a hard time seeing how the producer would have little to do with that.

Financially,

SF4 was a success.
SF5 is a success.
SFxT was okay.

However those last 2 titles squandered a lot of public good will and we can blame Ono/Capcom for their bad business practices and poor PR decisions.

Ono has nothing to do with the MvC series though. Those were developed by a different division IIRC.

The net gain of Ono’s contribution to Capcom, SF, and the FGC is still tremendously positive. That’s why Capcom has kept him as the face of SF, even though business-wise the fighting division was under a period of transition for most of this year.

Also do consider the circumstances. SF5 launched in a period when Capcom was on the brink of collapse according to some rumors, some even suggesting that they will be bought out.

Capcom today is stronger than ever. I think the fighting division will begin to see the fruits of their labor and newfound success soon.

MVCi had such a terrible fate, with all the PR disasters like FuNcTiOnS and the many graphical goofs as well as its release being during the time where Marvel were really big and the copyright issues with whoever owned the X-Men at the time.

It’s a shame because apparently (I haven’t played MVCi) the gameplay is good too but it sucks in every other aspect. Bland music, ugly graphics, no charisma at all. Hopefully it made Capcom re-consider the route they take their fighting games and crossovers in general.

The Street Fighter series is near and dear to Ono’s heart. He hasn’t always did the right thing, but I feel as though he’s done more good than bad. What people gotta realize is that, ultimately, the higher ups in Japan will always have a greater degree in the decisions being made with these games.

Was I happy we waited nearly a yr for this? Hell naw. I was actually very annoyed, but eventually I put things into perspective. Ono is not in charge of this game anymore. He’s simply the spokesman for it. Everything happening behind the scenes has nothing to do with him, which is why he’s constantly citing the SFVAE team in his tweets. Thing is, he’ll always be the fallguy no matter what because that’s how things are.

All I can do is hope Capcom has a much greater showing next-gen. They’ve done great in other areas, so now we gotta see their fighting game division do great work.

That’s just the problem with the video game industry in Japan as a whole. Companies like Nintendo, SEGA and Capcom still operate and have a mindset that would’ve worked in the early 90’s rather than 2019. They’re so out of touch with the modern industry, it’s no wonder that it’s the western side of things that’s doing most of the innovation.

Yup. And this is the reason I don’t want Street Fighter V to end. Not only do they have a great roster… most all the returning characters already got all the outfits they ever wore in canon. Stuff like scarless Sagat, Alpha Ryu and Ken, Alpha Bison… who knows how long it will take Street Fighter 6 to get to this point. Now… I just need Super Street Fighter V with all the characters in the series + Haggar, Carlos and Dean and I would have the perfect game… There’s not even that many left…

I want SF5 to last as long as possible, but I need a fun and inspired gameplay shake-up, something much bigger than a balance patch because why not? That is what I am looking forward to the most. But I generally agree with your sentiment @Dracu.

I just need my kids Rose and Necro as well as a gameplay overhaul and a second story mode and I’ll be content.

Okay we had a new team

Haggar Lucia and Cody

Then Guy Maki and Ibuki

Tag team

Haggar and Lucia

Then we had a new Rivalry or Tag team

MAKI x LUCiA.

Lucia is getting so much love and positive reactions. Right now it’s really wrong to just judge by the trailer and because of the elemental on attacks.

Poison’s story summary:

Summary

The story begins with Poison’s return to Metro City. The first thing she does is stop by the Bay Side to visit Roxy and Abigail. After exchanging pleasantries with them, Poison decides to test Abigail. His strength was impressive enough for Poison to consider taking him on tour, and she was sure he wouldn’t run off in a cowardly fashion like Hugo. Roxy isn’t so sure about the offer because Abigail has been putting most of his focus into managing the shop.

Poison isn’t really convinced that Abby has the intelligence to manage anything, much to Abby’s dismay. Roxy doesn’t agree and instructs Abby to show Poison his customer friendly smile. Eventually Poison realized that she was being selfish about the whole thing. She gives Abby an apology before saying her goodbyes and leaving.

Still eager to find talent for her organization, Poison decided to visit City Council to test Mayor Cody. Once the scuffle ends, Poison is still in shock that someone with Cody’s background would ever consider being a Mayor. Cody admits that it’s something that merely happened, but the idea of being turned into a star was intriguing in itself.

He asked if Poison could make him another offer when his term as Mayor ends in a few yrs…before being interrupted by Lucia. The Metro City Police received a report of the Mayor being attacked by a thug, which is chalked up to be nothing more than a “conversation” reminiscent of the good old days. Cody then left Lucia to deal with Poison.

Lucia recognized Poison from her pro-wrestling tour with Hugo. She could tell that there was a dispute between the two before warning Poison to not cause any trouble. In that moment, Poison came to the realization that, no matter what walks of life people come from, there are things that are simply out of their control.

Some people are destined to live life a certain way. Hugo is all raw power and nothing more, so he’d only excel at fighting. A thought that had Lucia immediately think of Cody. Despite how Poison spoke of Hugo, she doesn’t have any negative feelings towards those who aren’t particularly skillful or intelligent. Realizing that she’s rambled on too much, Poison leaves the area.

Later that day, she’s approached by a gigantic fellow. Hugo. Poison isn’t too happy that the blockhead is crawling back to her after abandoning her. On the flipside, his return means he’s at least braver than those who choose to avoid a difficult issue permanently. Poison gives Hugo a second chance before proclaiming that she will not go easy on him.

Lucia’s story summary:

Summary

The story begins with Lucia receiving a phone call in the office. There’s a visitor there for her. Annoyed that she won’t be able to enjoy her noodles, the thought is immediately forgotten when she’s greeted by the EX-Mayor, Haggar. He’s there to talk about the Mad Gear. He believes they’re working with the opponents on city council to bring the Mayor down. Haggar isn’t entirely sure if this rumor is legit or not, but he’d rather be safe than sorry. Lucia goes to snoop around Abigail’s shop to find any suspicious activity. Nothing stood out, so she decided to confront him directly.

Abigail can’t understand why the people in the city are so crazy, or why everyone wants to harm him even though he’s doing no wrong. His place is legit and it isn’t very welcoming to cops. Roxy gives this idea pushback because Lucia’s presence alone could encourage more customers to come to the shop. Lucia plays along with Roxy’s suggestion, which confuses Abby even more since he doesn’t believe the shop is unsafe enough to repel people. Both Lucia and Roxy believe it could be Abby’s face that’s scaring the customers off. Abby’s reaction is enough to get a laugh out of the two women before Lucia takes off.

Abigail’s business doesn’t appear to be problematic, so he’s cleared. With no other tips, Lucia thought it would be good to warn Cody about the rumors. As she comes across him, Zeku quickly vanishes, and the two acknowledge one another. Lucia insists that she’s there to talk to him as a friend rather than the Mayor before the two have a little sparring match.

Cody compliments Lucia on not losing any of her moves. The little exchange was enough to remind him of their days taking on the Mad Gear. Lucia is just happy that becoming the Mayor hasn’t softened Cody up, as the slightest drop of his guard could make things go crazy pretty fast. Cody knows the inference is about his city council opposition, though Lucia isn’t too keen on his discrete meetings with strange people at night. He heeds her suggestion and thanks her as the two leave.

Returning to the office after a long day, Lucia freaks out seeing her spoiled instant noodles. The only time she’ll help someone going forward is if they bring her noodles beforehand.

Honda’s story summary:

Summary

The story begins with an excited Laura getting a good look at the Japanese Sento inside of Honda’s bathhouse. Diving in was a foregone conclusion before Honda quickly stopped her. Before getting in the tub, she had to put her hair up. It’s simply good manners to do so.

An excited Rashid was prepared to dry his body off with his infamous gale once he was finished bathing. Honda, however, was not open to this. Drying your body off well is important, but not to a point where one could summon a tornado in the changing room. That was off-limits.

Ryu decides to meditate inside of the shower, drawing Honda’s attention with the quickness. It’s meant for relaxing, not training. Ryu is next shown relaxing in the bathtub instead. Menat, Laura, Juri, Ibuki, and Mika are then shown having fun drying themselves off after taking a dip in the Sento.

Honda succeeded in Re-Opening his Sento. With the popularity of his Sento combined with his sumo abilities, Honda was confident it’d become a worldwide phenomenon.

Is that a Black Moon or a random asteroid? Honda giving Akuma a run for his money at destroying stuff.

They really need a second CA and some changes to the V-System. Too many characters have moves locked behind V-Trigger, making them feel incomplete while triggerless. What I would propose is having a way to regain V-meter WHILE in V-Trigger… but this isn’t the place to discuss that.

There was never any basis for those rumors. It felt like people who don’t follow Capcom’s output outside of the fighting games created them.

Nash to Honda: “Nothing I eat has any taste. Can you imagine what hell that must be?”

You’re a heartless bastard if you didn’t shed a tear after reading this.

Also, anyone else thought FANG vs. Poison and vice versa were a REAL wasted opportunity?
