The Ultra Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread

Bison’s Alpha costume is called “Psycho Miasma”, either he needs to shower more or his cape’s very presence is fearsome and insufferable :heavy_heart_exclamation:

Honda Story Mode

Mostly just for fun. E. Honda runs a bathhouse now, and he teaches his patrons (Laura, Rashid, and Ryu) proper manners of the bathhouse (by fighting them). Nothing too advancing to the plot, but then again, was E. HOnda’s character ever that important to the lore of SF?

I get the feeling “HOLD IT RIGHT THERE” will be a meme for SF fans.

Poison Story Mode

Poison returns to her city, catches up with Roxy and Abigail, spars with Abigai and then tries recruits the Abigail for her Wrestling team. (Turns out, Hugo splits with Poison in SFV)
Abigail is still stupid AF though, still trying to go straight.

Afterawards, she runs into Cody again, and they catch up (and spar), even offers Cody a spot in her wrestling organization. Lucia show up. We see Poison’s more vulnerable side as she talks about her Hugo splitting up Lucia.

At the end, Hugo returns to Poison as she’s glad to have him back.

(Pretty good story. Loved seeing Poison more on the softer side of things)

Happy ending

It’s very sad that what happened to evo and capcom especially with Ono. I felt sorry for the guy. Tbh I would see this hard work more of a favor to every fans because of requesting something at the near end of SFv’s.

They felt betrayed and because of the leaks and fake leakers. I hope everything would be still okay with Ono with Capcom and for the better for what’s in store with SF6 or any other future SF.

Lucia Story Mode

Lucia had her cup of ramen interrupted by Haggar to investigate Mad Gear for suspicious activity against Mayor Travors. She beats up Abigail, who tells Lucia that he’s going straight. Of course, Abigail has got the worst face for business, but Lucia lets him off the hook.

Lucia catches up with Cody talking with Zeku, Zeku disappears. Lucia has a friendly sparring match with Cody, for ol times sake.
(might just be me, but there is some text errors wth the subttles)

Lucia comes back to find her cup of ramen ruined.

Decent story showing Lucia’s personality, accent, and of course her story post FF3.

Nothing super deep, but I’m liking what I’m hearing for the story mode so far. Like I keep saying, I love when there’s depth added to the Mad Gear crew and this looks like what I’m looking for. Curious about Lucia now.

edit: Got ninja’d hah.

Interesting that they are giving much preview with Madgear but Lucia is more into Skull Cross Gang than Madgear but probably thats either before or after.

Interesting that her and Cody had something to be related with. Imagine her sparing with Cody that only saying that she had some great potential because that’s no ordinary street fighter that CODY.

Original Juri aka Shadow Lady is here.

Thing is, is it really the Mad Gear or is it someone else?

Also why/how the fuck has Metro City recovered from the events of ASF so fast. Shit should still be in chaos!

Poison to Menat: “I don’t need your crystal ball. I already know I’m gonna make it big!”

Menat to Poison: “My master told me, fortune-telling is a guide, but your feet walk the journey.”

Poison to Akuma: “Fight to entertain, not to the death.”

Akuma to Poison: “Hmph. You fight like a brat.”

Poison to Juri: "You like pain, right? Then you must love my whip.

Juri to Poison: “You don’t need a whip to cause exquisite pain.”

Poison to Alex: “Not bad. You lack experience. When you become a real man, come find me.”

Alex to Poison: “I hope for your sake, you’re a better promoter than you are a fighter.”

Poison to Ibuki: “What’s with all the bouncing around? You on a sugar high, little girl?

Ibuki to Poison: “That whip suits you. Not my scene though…”

Poison to Laura: “Now that’s a winning smile! How about working for me?”

Laura to Poison: “Nice whip work! Not sure my gramps would approve, though! Haha!”

Poison to Rashid: “What’s with the wind crap, airhead?”

Rashid to Poison: “Don’t underestimate me. I’m a man on a mission, baby!”

Poison to Mika: “Yeah, you got the idea! What’s a fight without a show?!”

Mika to Poison: “So you’re a wrestler, trainer, AND promoter?! Outta this world!”

Poison to Zangief: “You were born to be in the ring! I can see it now! “The Raging Russian!”

Zangief to Poison: “We have similar goal. Next time, we meet in ring!”

Poison to Karin: “Money talks, but when I meet people like you I realize talk is cheap.”

Karin to Poison: “You really thought I was just some spoiled, little rich girl? Ha! You must be kicking yourself.”

Poison to Chun-Li: “I heard you were a strong kicker, but the real kicker is: this was a waste of time.”

Chun-Li to Poison: “You fought well. There’s more to you than meets the eye.”

Poison to Ryu: “Ugh. Still trying to play it cool. You’ll never make a pro wrestler.”

Ryu to Poison: “Though you and I seek a different strength, you are strong In your own right.”

Poison to Nash: “Quit acting like you’re the only one who has it tough.”

Nash to Poison: “I didn’t come here to play.”

Poison to Bison: “I like your over-the-top dictator shtick. You’d make a great heel.”

Bison to Poison: “Pitiful insect! You aren’t worth the time it took to crush you!”

Poison to Ken: “Tough break, pretty boy. You kept your looks, but lost your game.”

Ken to Poison: “A whip? Seriously?”

Poison to Cammy: “For someone who wears a leotard, you’re waaay too uptight.”

Cammy to Poison: “Our fighting styles are worlds apart.”

Poison to Birdie: “Look at you! Just begging to be whipped into shape!”

Birdie to Poison: “Look, luv. I ain’t botherin’ with wrestlin’ if I’ve gotta practice.”

Poison to Dhalsim: What good’s enlightenment when it collapses at the crack of a whip?

Dhalsim to Poison: “The path ahead can never be conquered if you run in the wrong direction.”

Poison to Vega: “I know we both value beauty, but the way you do it is seriously ugly.”

Vega to Poison: “Trampled and yet you bloom. A rare flower indeed.”

Poison to Necalli: “Devour”, “devour”, “devour”…Jeez. Get a dictionary already.”

Necalli to Poison: “Light and shadow, I will devour-our-our…”

Poison to F.A.N.G.: “At some point, you’ve gotta drop the bad-boy act. Trust me.”

F.A.N.G. to Poison: “Boring. Not worth my time.”

Poison to Balrog: “You’re more show off than show biz.”

Balrog to Poison: “Take your lame-ass show to another town!”

Poison to Guile: “Do you ever stop talking about battlefields? Change the record already!”

Guile to Poison: “Anyone can fight, but only a few can take it beyond a play fight.”

Poison is so disrespectful lol.

Is this for real?

Yeah. She’s an Extra Battle opponent.

Funny thing is, that X-Kira mined Shadow Lady and Alpha Bison costumes months ago.

And according to Ser Arthur, the guy who knew days ahead of the leak that the next characters were Honda, Lucia, and Poison, X-Kira knew about them also but kept his silence.

Now X-Kira is claiming that the November announcement is the remaining S4 characters and that SF5 will receive a game upgrade on 16/12/2019. (I mean that seems obvious, but he mined it from today’s update).

Take everything with a grain of salt or two of course.

Ken’s name was also given to the character late during the development of Street Fighter 1. When Gamest first covered the game on their July 1987 issue, it was still in its prototype stages. While Ryu was still Ryu (隆), Ken was named Yuu (裕) instead. My guess is that they changed it because Ryu and Yuu sounded too similar.

Incidentally, the kanji characters for Ryu’s and Yuu’s names comes from the given names of the two lead developers, Takashi Nishiyama (西山 隆志) and Hiroshi Matsumoto (松本 裕司).

Speaking of which, I’ve actually noticed a slight mistake in the current version of the Street Fighter Plot Guide.

(リュウ) Ryu was the lead role of the first Street Fighter. His origin of conception was a simple idea for a Judo user referred to as “Planned Japanese Protagonist”, and from a glance is adorned in something corresponding with Japanese culture. In the initialization stages of the first game, he had gone under the name Ryu (隆).

I’m pretty sure 隆 ー is supposed to be Ryūichi, as in Ryu’s prototype name was Ryuichi before they shortened it. If you check this copy of the original Street Fighter design document, you can barely see the kana for りゅういち in handwriting the first time that 隆一 appears in the document.

The backstory of Gouki and the Satsui no Hadou does remind a bit of Hokuto no Ken too. During the second half of the manga, they introduce a branch style of Hokuto Shinken known as Hokuto Ryuken which has been corrupted into the ways of evil. Those who master the style are driven insane with a lust of power after entering Hell itself, eventually developing an evil aura known as Matōki (魔闘気). It drove the previous successor of the style (Jukei) to kill his own wife and child while in a state of madness. Jukei in particular resembles Gouki a bit during the flashback where they explain said incident.

It seems to be the only thing that westerners ever talk about when it comes to Final Fight, when it’s really not all that interesting to me. I always found Nishiyama Maekawa’s reasoning for turning Poison and Roxy into newhalves to be pretty amusing.

Basically they became transgendered women because people in the US were complaining that allowing the player to beat female enemies might influence actual abuse on women. Yet, nobody in the west knew that Poison and Roxy were supposed to be trans, since such information didn’t spread to the west until the internet, when people started seeking out and translating the Japanese materials. A book titled Game Over mentioned an incident with Roxy’s gender once, but that was it.

Poison to Kolin: “Let’s face it: I’m too hot for you.”

Kolin to Poison: “Oh, things aren’t going well for you? What a surprise…”

Poison to Urien: “You can run along. I don’t have time for guys with massive egos.”

Urien to Poison: “Fool! Your pleas for life will go unheeded!”

Poison to Abigail: You should trade spot checks on cars, for the spotlight and superstars.”

Abigail to Poison: “Not interested in workin’ on the road with you, but come visit my workshop anytime.”

Poison to Zeku: “One minute you’re old; next minute you’re young…What’s your secret?”

Zeku to Poison: “Friendship, like wine, flourishes with age.”

Poison to Cody: “Hmph. You only come to life when you fight. You’re wasting your time being a mayor.”

Cody to Poison: “I’m a busy man. If you wanna promote your shows, ask the guy I replaced.”

Poison to Blanka: “Awww, who’s a good boy…Yes, you are! C’mere, you adorable bundle of fluff!”

Blanka to Poison: “I look like a beast, because I am one! I’m wilder than you can imagine!”

Poison to Sagat: “Hmm…I don’t think you have the personality to be king of the wrestling ring.”

Sagat to Poison: “Your fighting is all show and no substance!”

Poison to Poison: “I am who I am. And I’m damn proud of it!”

Poison to Lucia: “Trust me, sister. My bad days are behind me.”

Lucia to Poison: “You can’t win ‘em all.”

Poison is finished! Time for Lucia.

This is some turbo nerd shit.

Why do you guys care about wim quotes?

It helps create a clear picture of a character’s personality. Since Capcom are very indirect so we have to piece things together ourselves. Most of the time the quotes repeat what we already know about a character, other more rare instances they show a different side we never knew existed. Over time and over several games, we begin to know who these characters really are and who they are not.

It’s also fun. Like a treasure hunt for loregasms.
