The Ultra Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread

I most excited to be back doing what I love doing.

It’s been too long.

I think it’s unfair for those that wasn’t even here to talked and criticize so negatively about vasili10, other than what they have been told with.

Just trying to be fair tons of individuals helped the previous guide along with the tons of olds school anime and popculture reference here that the many has talked usually here was also referenced over and over here by new people but those were already been tackled more than before.

Usually even some do reference from Fighting Street website. Which the owner is also part of the original thread.

For Vasili10 the guy helped a lot not just from the OG thread here but also in other sites like Capcom unity but yes the opinion was right that he had a hard time accepting retcons on SF4 because he might have judge it the same way as the previous way he judge previous SF games.

Like I said before, He may have come up with unlikely justification towards the sudden updates becàuse of being used to previous methods of judging credibility of canon and non-canon.

Im one of the old guys but more of a spectator and only participate either to ask question or contribute some reference that wasn’t pointed out by others.

But I kinda wonder… Worked together with Ryo_redcyclone? Because trying to find a lead on the Morgan surname?

So, with Poison returning very soon the ages-old argument about her is coming back too: ̶̶̶h̶o̶w̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶h̶e̶l̶l̶ ̶d̶o̶e̶s̶ ̶s̶h̶e̶ ̶m̶a̶n̶a̶g̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶k̶e̶e̶p̶ ̶s̶u̶c̶h̶ ̶s̶t̶u̶n̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶a̶b̶s̶?̶ I mean, the whole trans thing.

The way I know things is that when making Final Fight Poison and Roxy were either always supposed to be “newhalfs” or they were changed from females to trans because hitting on women might have appeared controversial (splendid example of Capcom’s logic and how it hasn’t really changed over the decades).
Once Poison returned in SFxT and SFIV the debate over her gender resumed, as far as I know Capcom kinda took a “it’s whatever you want her to be” stance, but I’m not too sure about it. I’ve even seen some people arguing that Capcom retconned her into a biological woman by SFIV.

Is there any lore master than can clarify things up for me?

It doesn’t really need a lore master for the current visual on SFV because it is probably confirming it that she is likely a trans. Compare from the previous game.

Her individual story mode and new quotes in SFV will be the final nail in the coffin for the theory and rumor to confirm or debunk it. But juding with visual it favors the that she is a trans.

Whatever she was meant and confused in the drawing board during the original FF isn’t something to consider now, because the current and present is the future or the confirmed.

I’m more interested in what Capcom says, not what people try to read by looking at 3D models.

Yes like I said I think that would be the individual story ro confirm it or not to us.

But if they start throwing teases then again and again with the quotes and dialogues were probably back where it started which is the answer is still unsaid and it’s up to us to judge.

Imo Roxy and Poison were the work of several people who had different views on the matter and it’s hard to tell who had the greater authority to give the ultimate answer.

Who do we go with?
Game director who generally says what’s to be done?
Game producer who is ultimately responsible of the content of the game?
Lead designer who directs the main design of the character?
Sprite artist who makes the actual art in the game?
Marketing guy who has the last word on what gets printed in the manual and ads?

I don’t even try to keep track of what each of the people involved has said because imo it’s futile especially in such an old product. Capcom has decided to play the ambiguous card now, and I’d say you should consider Poison whatever makes your nether regions happy.

TBF, the whole “Poison is transgender” debacle is the only reason why Poison really gets any big talk. Take that away and she’s a bland FF minion. Other than that, I agree with @mikros, whatever you headcanon her as is OK.

That’s disappointing. The chances to find an actual source (that’s not a fan creation, I mean) are very slim.

Exactly. Ryoredcyclone himself even cited a widespread legend in Japanese fandom that claims that, during the first phases of development, Ken was “actually” named 拳・アンドリュー・飛鳥 Ken Andrew Asuka, but no Japanese site who reported that ever cited a source.
Even discarding the “Ken Andrew Asuka” Japanese fan theory about his surnames, it’s obvious that Ken’s name comes from the animated version of Karate Baka Ichidai. It makes even more sense when you realise that Ken Asuka was the protagonist’s name in the anime version only, where in the manga the protagonist was… Well, Masutatsu Ōyama himself. It’s unclear why they changed the name (maybe it had to do with the falling out Kajiwara and Ōyama had between them), but the anime version is considerably different from the original manga and was more geared towards a younger audience, without all the real fighters the manga had and presenting all “Ken Asuka”'s rivals as stereotypical bad guys, rather than the “karate vs any other style” flavour without any personal enmity of the original manga. Anyway, as the animated alternate version of the manga’s protagonist, it makes sense that Capcom chose “Ken” as the alternate version of Ryu if you were the second player… It’s only with SF2 that Ken becomes his own character.
About Gen, it’s obvious that Ansatsuken was meant for him and as a reference to Fist of the North Star. Gen’s Shitenshū references all the instances in which Kenshirō left his enemies a few seconds to live after his blow hit them. Incidentally, the only time it was TEN seconds (as Shitenshū does) was in this hilarious scene (every other instance was 3, 5 or 7 seconds):

Hang on, I missed that. What’s this thing about Poison and Molotov bottles? :astonished:

The old plot guide, obviously. If you read that, they say they think she’s the sun goddess. And it’s the same ill-formed information that all Western wikis keep citing about her since.
She certainly travels through time, but we don’t know exactly who she is. The only sure things are that she’s older than she seems and is somehow related to Avel/Death (and I’m not the only one who thinks she’s actually his MOM; I’ve seen some comment on youtube that suggests the same thing), and she works for some obscure organisation that sent her to SFA3 timeline to retrieve the catalyst with the same symbol she had on her hairpins, that Bison somehow stole. She’s not a goddess, period.

Poison’s first v-trigger has her throwing Molotov bottles. Likely as a homage to the El Gedos enemies.

I wonder what sort of story Lucia will get, obviously something with Cody but several art hint at a connection to Chun-Li and Lucia even has somewhat similar moves. I wonder if SFV will touch on any of that?

I actually meant what @bakfromon’s post in January had to do with Capcom taking ideas from it, but I’ve found it anyway. Well, if only that were true, I’d spam my Ingrid fan-ideas over and over until they actually make her an Icelandic from the future and using glíma and time manipulating attacks.
Also, my idea about Zangief having a counterthrow to normal grabs that mimics what he did against Abel in SFV story mode: the opponent tries the throw, Zangief stops the action praising/deriding him/her (depending on opponent’s allineation towards him: Zangief would praise Mika, Ryu or Chun-Li, but laugh at Gouki, Bison or his own heel version, for example), then Zangief executes the counter. Additional praise/derision after the throw optional. I’ve even thought about all the various awesome possible counters… but let’s be back IT.

She even openly admits/trolls about it during her trailer: “Being gossiped about is proof of my popularity!”, hahaha.

I wasn’t really active here back then, but I was a regular at Capcom-Unity during the SF4-era and Vas was also over there at the time. So I was around for the whole “Gen is a zombie because his hair is different” nonsense.

It would be really funny if even in-universe Poison’s gender is a tricky topic and she uses this to her advantage.

Her story mode will definitely play on this. #Prediction

BTW, is Poison MtF or FtM?

MtF WTF.

I feel like at this point in the US, being embarrassed for having a trans character is now more controversial than having a trans character. So it should just stop being a thing they dance around.

Unfortunately, game made in Japan, so not confident they’d handle it correctly.
