I meant semi-beginner at playing Magneto, I’ve always had an interest in learning him after watching players like Fanatiq, Rayray, and Yipes especially cause he plays Dante too. But I never had the execution. I feel like giving it a shot since he fits my play style and I’ve been able to do his combos in training mode. I don’t really know how to go about playing him on anchor. I always see him on point, and I agree it’s the most effective. I’ll probably try that to get a grasp on his play style before setting him as anchor. I really like this team’s synergy.
anyone wanna play online?

It’s a shame my internet is ass.
It’s very good, but I still don’t see it being better than Magneto Sentinel Doom.
It is fun though.
For anyone who plays Magneto/Zero, Chris Schmidt just posted these up

Tho those who run or ran mag doom sent (kunta and blooda off the top of my head), just curious of you prefer doom with missiles or plasma? I’m allll about missiles-mag, but with drones present I wonder if its not a bit redundant?
Is the idea to just mix up the space and time control between drones and missiles? Or mixing drones pressure with a clear-out beam with plasma? Feels like both would work.
I havn’t really ran that team, but I wouldn’t consider drones/missiles redundant. Missiles covers many places where drones can’t reach, and makes many bad matchups less scary. I could see beam being superior in some matchups, but if anything were redundant, it would be using two assists that cover the horizontal approach. Not to mention that sentinel would probably benefit more from missiles than plasma (god forbid you’re put into that situation). Just my two cents
No point in running that team at all if you’re not using Missiles.
To those of you talkin about mag dante sent, 2 questions:
-
U prefer drones over missiles? I ran dante mag sent in vanilla, but do mag xxx doom now (with dante as a frequent x)
-
How do you prefer to cover drones with dante? I have a few ways (reverb, teleport, yadda), but curious what u guys do. Might translate to missiles as well; might not.
Noted. I kinda came to that conclusion shortly after asking. If for no other reason than getting a nice combo extension regardless of how they’re opened up. Tho I must say, I don’t think plasma and drones are redundant (not entirely at least). They’re both horizontals, but serve wholy diff functions. Ure not gonna snipe a doom call with drones, and ure not gonna get 3 trijumps off a blocked beam lol. I think both ways are good teams, but agree missiles should get the nod.
But then again… rocks!!
Din0, curious your thoughts on the above dante drones question. Obv mag is on the team so as to remain on topic
using missiles or plasma beam really depends on match up for me. if they’re using vergil/wolv with a high durability beam like IM or doom you really NEED the beam to fight it or you’ll be hella free in the assist department. that’s the only time i ever go with beam. in fact i think that’s why fchamp switched to beam in the first place. however, he’ll still use mag/beam/phoenix against teams where it seems like he wouldnt need it, not sure why.
the reason i go with missiles/drones most of the time is for a few reasons:
first of all it lets me adapt to the way the opponent is playing regardless of match up. if they’re not hitting my drones then ill keep calling them but if they have a good projectile and they’re using it right or strider is hitting him on the head i can usually better use my missile setups because doom is a smaller target. not to mention it’s just harder to deal with if you’re focusing on trying to deal with 1 of the assists and i switch it up as soon as you think you have my setups figured out. so, if you’re staying on the ground i can use drones and magnetic blasts to move in, if you’re jumping around i can use missiles and track you down in the air. i have so many more options and being able to transition between both is really useful.
when mag finally goes down i feel like the doom with missiles/sent drones duo is really strong. as long as i have meter i can put whoever i need in and they always have a nice optimal assist to attempt to maintain control of the match. sent with a plasma beam isnt really going to stop you from jumping on my head or laming me out.
finally if sent or doom gets sniped it doesn’t leave my mags to fend for himself, i’ll have cover no matter what and playing magneto is my main focus.
Very well put! I’m inclined to ask you to elaborate on “my missile setups.” Not like I don’t already have many, but its always good, for all of us missiles-mag players, to add some new ones to the toolbox.
Not just kelter either, but anyone with some specific mag missiles setups, feel free to share ill do the same when I don’t have a friend spamming me that he’s ready and sent an invite and where am I, etc. Lol. Toodles!
I don’t see the point of magneto/doom/sentinel. Team improves 10 fold if you add ammy instead of the robot. Yeah, missiles covers areas drones can’t get, but your hindering your usage of both assists by putting both slow, vulnerable assists on the same team. Ammy is a better anchor. Ammy/doom is scarier(this one is debatable, but >doom sentinel imo), magneto ammy is also no joke either. You get one of the best lockdown assists a long with one of the most versatile assists.
Yeah Doom/Sentinel on the same team is way too fair, sadly.
Dino’s formula is pretty solid:
Magneto point/ Bullshit 2nd like Vergil or Dorm or Morrigan or Spencer or Dante/ Missiles or Drones. Or Magneto/Missiles or Drones/ Phoenix or Vergil.
Those are the most successful setups for a point Magneto team I feel( I think my team is up there too but requires some work on my behalf).
The other optimal shell for Magneto teams is using Trenchcoat or Zero/Trenchcoat 2nd/ Disruptor anchor which are even less fair and are more stupid.
xray uses that team and i used ammy anchor for a long long time including with magneto, the problem you run into a lot is finding a safe way to call ammy and actually get people locked into it without them jumping out of it. in practice it’s not as good as drones or missles, IMO. also, i’ve made way more comebacks with solo sentinel than i ever did with ammy. in fact the ability to HSF xx xfactor to nuke an assist is alone much better than what ammy can do.
i agree but, right now im focusing on being as solid as possible before i go full retard
Fair enough, I actually played it as my Day 1 Ultimate team for 2 months before I realized it wasn’t getting the job done vs heavy zoning teams and switched to Magneto/Dorm/Doom. It gives you a really good foundation for stronger teams.
Ammy is a lot better at anchor. They should be just as scared to press buttons vs okami shuffle since u can xfc that into death as well. No one should be calling assists vs xfactored anchors anyway. It’s really not that hard. You call missiles then run in. Maintain pressure with magnetic blast+coldstar, similar to what doom does with butter gun. It’s all about proper spacing. You shouldn’t be pulling the clockwork and calling from full screen. Not to mention, if doom dies for whatever reason, magneto+ammyhas a great THC and is a great duo overall. Coldstar+whatever the fuck that gravity push forward move is called is similar to jam session in the hard knockdown regard. It’s good stuff.
Any tips on fighting vergil with mag (for context, I’m mag rapid slash missiles). I’m just finding that fighting vergil, more than anyone else, just really throws the dos and donts list for a loop, pun 23.6% intended.
-The biggest example of this is missiles. Vergil seems practically immune to them, and more and more I wonder if I should stop calling them in neutral at all. Even my normal ‘protects doom calls’ sequences seem to provide free birthday cake for any vergils with the skill enough to press some buttons.
-we know, in theory, that raw teleporting is scrubby and punishable. But the simple, and usually pretty quick, act of shooting a disruptor just gives that ass hole a free hit (read: kill) just by being scrubby enough to tap me on the shoulder as I do it.
-attempts to stay in the air primarily can easily fall to teleports and dash unders that you don’t have to be yipes to pull off. Even sj helm breaker is probably a non terrible way to to tell magnus the skies may not be safe.
My primary opponents both run vergils and it ‘earns’ them wins that just wouldn’t happen if they didn’t. I’m runnin the sonuvabitch myself now which I hope will act as an equalizer (tho damn me I just can’t bring myself to mashy mash with em). Is there any way to mitigate some of this bullshit? If we can assume for the moment I am the stronger player, any tips on consistently proving it?
Also, if I do sniff out a raw teleport and I’m able to punish, what’s the ideal way? There is recovery, and his jabs are relatively slow, but damned if I don’t get stuck w/ teleport into cL far more than id care to admit.
Help!!! For someone who’s pretty decent at this game, I’m really sucking at this matchup!!
Amaterasu is actually a better anchor than Sentinel, she’s just hard to play and requires alot of practice.
