LOL I’ve been playing seriously since T4 (that’s almost 10 years!) and I still bust my ass in every match, and you expect to do well after 1 week.

I’ve been trying to pick up another character but everyone other than my mains just feel awkward. I’ve tried Raven, Lee, Leo, Heihachi, Kazuya, Nina, and Bryan, but they just feel awkward and none of the other characters appeal to me. The only ones that ever “clicked” are Dragunov, Lei, King, A. King, and Yoshimitsu. Actually, why haven’t I even tried TTT2 Yoshimitsu yet? I’ve played with (and mained) him in SCIV, SCV, and Tekken 6, but not TTT2 yet, I’m going in the lab with him now.
Ha, just found out my team has a special tag grab. Jin and Hwoarang so cool.
The local best player here plays Dragunov. He put in the effort and became really good with him. This character does not limit the player.

But straight up, no matter how “bad” the character is, if you don’t know their setups or their style, you have a high chance of getting boned. Experience trumps a lot of things in this game. I don’t think there are any unplayable characters, though. Even if there are less capable characters, this is a team game and you can play the “cover their weaknesses” strategy with your teammate character.
While there aren’t unwinnable matchups, the tools available to you can change drastically or even disappear. Characters who employ a style that uses reversals, for example, will find themselves using their reversals more sparingly than normal against a characters who use lots of elbow or knee based attacks (attacks which generally cannot be reversed). Some characters have the ability to back turn their opponents regularly and some characters specialize in a back turned position, which makes using a tactic like that a little riskier. Things like that.
