man, i am getting smashed like no other by akuma and ryu. even after this time i’ve been having trouble starting my pressure on them. i feel bad because alot of my damage is from ex tatsu shenanigans…
I’m pretty much the same as you, Balrog, Bison and Rose are the worst for me, Chun gives me a lot of problems but not as much as these three.
Just checking my online stats,
My win percent against:
Balrog is 14%
Rose is 26%
Bison is 34%
Balrog just seems like, a lost cause from the start. The Bison match-up just feels like I
can’t punish anything, but not so much as with Balrog.
I’m about to read the Rose match-up just posted so hopefully it will give me some insight.
main page needs updates, just sayin
What are the properties for each of guys tatsus?
LK- invincible to throws?
MK - invincible to fireballs?
HK - Anti-Air?
lk has lower body hit invincibility and i believe throw invincibility
Against Bison and Balrog, use st hp, st hk and st/cr mk effectively. cr mk will burn every Dash punch, or scissor kick thrown at you if you anticipate them. St Hp is your go to poke and it can stop dash punches apparently if they arent EX of course. GRAB balrog, use I believe cr mp to stop Psycho Crusher or bushin flip or TK izuna, I also discover run slide will go completely under it with Guy unharmed if timed correctly.
Thread should be completely up to date now.
I’d actually feel more comfortable if we all compiled a list of who we think are the best Guy players on the forums. I don’t want to be the lone person deciding who is knowledgeable and who isn’t. So, please people, suggest some names!
Personally, my list of top Guy players on SRK are:
[] D’Nyc3
[] obey562
[] This_Is_K1
[] MADma3str0
I think it’s pretty obvious that D’Nyc3 is one of the best Guy players in the country. Of course, my opinion may be a little biased because he has posted so many videos of his play. obey562 has done the same. This_Is_K1 and MADma3str0 both have contributed a lot to this match up thread, but I haven’t seen any videos of them playing. As a result, I’m a little hesitant about putting them on a list of top Guy players. I hope I haven’t offended anyone.
About tier lists and match ups, I strongly believe that any character with good normals is going to give Guy a tough time. I think his worst match ups are against Balrog (3-7, maybe even worse), E. Honda (4-6), Guile (4.5-5.5), and Ryu (4.5-5.5) due to the fact that he must try so hard to beat these opponents. From my play experience, if he even makes one mistake, he may very likely lose the round. However, I do believe that even if certain match ups are considered to be unfavorable, they are very winnable (minus Balrog).
hahaha no offense taken man. completely understandable. i really need to get some vids of me playing on youtube. gonna try to in the coming weeks, but thanks for putting me in your list.
on a side note… i agree with you that any one with good normals gives guy problems because he lacks abusable pokes. you can’t whore out any of his normals like ryu cr. forward or rog jabs or his sweep. everything has to be used as an answer to something your opponent throws out.
no offense taken streak lol, i have a couple of videos in the video section. If you want to know what people think of me you can ask them. im sure they would give you an honest opinion. Ive played most of the XBL people. The only person i dont have a winning record against is Lauwda, and were tied at 2-2. its all good though, im just happy that you think i should make the list without even having seen me lol
my win ratio vs
Bison = 68%
Rose = 60%
Rog = 54%
Rog is my lowest =/
point is, i could send you some vids if you want ? or i could upload some if someone can record them for me lol
taking requests for character write ups
akuma is pretty tough. i also don’t see a write up on the first page about it, so if you have time! thank you.
“cr.MK beats all of Vega’s Wall Dive options and is not difficult to time.”
Um, how? Can someone show me a video of this? I was playing online and doing this in practice, and this doesn’t work against Vega’s horizontal wall dive or EX wall dive at all, it seems + the crouch MK doesn’t seem to connect with the normal wall dive 100% at all - more like 25%.
@ Justice
Wall Dive = where he bounces off the wall and can control where he lands. hes able to throw out the hit version where he spreads his arms or the Izuna version where he grabs you.
Sky High Attack = “horizontal wall dive”: where he goes across the screen in a straight line. cr.mk doesnt beat that…it would probbaly go under it though, not sure. either way its incredibly unsafe on block for Vega. good claws will almost never throws this move out unless its EX’ed, and usually they cross up with it.
cr.mk DOES beat wall dive and EX wall dive 100% of the time, IF they dont come down straight on top of you (which good vegas usually wont do vs Guy, they know he can cr.mk and be safe from the izuna, which makes it an unfavorable trade for claw due to him having less health). If the Vega is wall diving straight on top of you, just cr.hk and slide away or as soon as leaves the wall you can command run to where he wall bounced from and be safe. they wont have enough time to react and pull back close enough to hit you (depending on where you start in relation to the wall hes jumping from).
alternatively, you can simply jump back fierce and hit him out of his wall dive pretty easily. just learn the timing.
@ lilouke
I’ll get right on it. I’ll either have it done tonight or by tomorrow night latest. Just need to do a little testing.
I play vega, and i can add something here.
Sky High Attack: if the vega player see that you “jump back fierce” (or jump back something, with other characters) to beat a walldive… as a vega player i can use Ski High with lp to make you think it’s a wall dive and bait your jump back. Ski High will beat your jump back if vega baited it properly. It is risky, yes, but is something in our arsenal to use every now and then and it may give a knockdown that end the match.
If guy uses cr.mk against wall dive, vega will change the timming and position of the attack to beat it (vega will go straight from avobe you if he is confident that you will cr.mk).
The thing about wall dive-sky high is a rock-paper-scisor game where vega can adjust to beat what you do, but you can do different things to beat what vega does.
Pro-players don’t use too much walldive outside knockdown vortex, because a missed one can lead to an ultra-punish…
…but if your response to walldive is** always **cr.mk, or jumpback fierce, or cr.hk, vega don’t fear that big combo punisher, and he may try something different to beat what you always do, and that will be the match ender.
Mix this Guy’s options against wall dive with a “focus - absorb the 1st hit - dash away” and if the vega didn’t grab you from the focus (because he didn’t expect that) you recover from the dash with enough time to punish BIG TIME the walldive, and that is what vega fears.
If you don’t mix up and punish a couple walldives, vega will know that you panic with that and will use walldive. But if you scare the hell out of him, he will stop using walldives ouside knockdown or some combos.
In a nutshell, mix cr.mk with cr.hk, jump mk or jump hp, focus-dash-punish.
To add to what Elmoucho is saying about the Vega matchup(which is all true and good advice) you can do neutral jump roundhouse to beat certain wall dive variations which you can follow up with a roundhouse hurricane juggle.
not to sound like a dick (seriously), but i mained Vega too for quite a while and i still use him pretty often. Good Vegas WONT be wall diving unless its on your wakeup. its just too risky for them. and the thing about focusing vegas wall dive … i dont think a Guy player should ever do that… Guy stands straight up and it makes it very easy to be Izuna’ed. If youre using Rose/ Sakura/Honda, then sure you can FA it all day, but that only reason for that is because they crouch pretty low during their FA animation and it makes it hard for Vega to Izuna them. Regarding the bit on SHA beating our jump back fierce, yes it will beat it out, but you shouldnt be doing the jump back fierce untill vega leaves the wall for the wall dive. its pretty simple…you just confirm its a wall dive, then JB fierce and it doesnt trade…jump back fierce beats it clean…
honestly you shouldnt have to worry about wall dives unless its on your wake up, and even then you really shouldnt see them too often (unless youre playing a scrub Vega, in which case just ask me and ill give you good solid vega practice). Vega has legit mixup options on your wake. corpse hopping mixed with his quick overhead, safe jump in to jump back fierce (for vega it becomes an instant overhead like chuns jump back hk), Instant crossover EX Sky high attack, st.lk tick throws…Vega has a decent amount of options to keep you guessing on wakeup. he doesnt need wall dive very much. watch any top claw player (Makoto, Jozhear, Tatsu, etc) none of them really wall dive often.
btw, i dont mean to attack you at all ElMouchoLoco, i just wanted the info to be accurate as to a real game with a good claw player. not whats possible, but whats probable.
That would be awesome, the only other characters below 50% are Honda and Blanka, and thats just because I need to learn the match-up more.
I played 4 rogs in the space of an hour yesterday and only managed to beat one, I watched the Tsuki stream of when he played the Balrog player, and learned a fair bit.
But yeh if you could find a way to get the Rog videos on youtube that would be great.
And thanks for the tips Blooddrunk, I will definately try and practise and implement what you said.
no problem legacy. next time i play with miikey ill see if he’ll record some of the matches for me
It’s ok.
I don’t walldive at all if i’m facing a player who knows what is doing.
But sometimes i walldive to build metter, i don’t attack, i press back in mid air to stay in my side, quite safe, but if with that bait they do some weird things like if they don’t know the vega matchup, then i play with walldives for the win
By the way, i have a problem with guy vs M.Bison (Dictator)
From the first post:
Run>Slide work vs Psycho Crusher if they go away (but not too much) after the stomp, but i can’t punish Psycho Crushers and Devil’s Reverse with Ex Hozanto except if they are going to land just over me…
Dictator can manouver so well in the air that it feels like is safe (i’ve even been hit with a ex scissors done just as they touch the ground, countering my EX Hozanto). He has so many options and places to land that he can do it nearly all day fishing for a jump.
And this is the same as “learning how to punish Vega’s walldive”: i can’t learn how to punish Dictator’s Stomp and Devil Reverse watching pro-player’s vids, because pro players don’t use those moves because they know they will be punished, so i never get to see a youtube match Guy vs Dictator who abuses that, and i still don’t know how to punish those moves.
Please, can someone explain a little more about the Dictator’s matchup ?
Thanks in advance
