Well yes, the desire may be similar, but the difference is that homosexuals can have consensual relationships with other adults, while nothing constructive can come from the desire to have sex with (young) children. So I wouldn’t say pedophilia should be “accepted” in the same way homosexuality is, but rather, viewed as a problem that we should treat with compassion and learn how to control.

All that’s really changed is it’s now considered a sexual orientation, rather than a mental illness. Being called an orientation now makes people compare it to homosexuality, and with the progressive approach to homosexuality that we’ve seen in the last 20 or so years, they are forced to address it with the same tact and empathy. With the way society treats people with mental disorders, no one really cared about the feelings of pedophiles before, but now they are being forced to care, or else be a hypocrite. Mental disorders are also not a choice, but they are generally viewed as a character flaw, or a potential hazard. It’s crazy how much semantics can change a society.
