well do you!!!
Tobal 2…was fighting game Nirvana
-I think the reason why it never caught on was that it was a slower paced fighter, even though it was the first fighting game to sport 60 fps (I think). + the Combo system was tighter than a virgin’s ass. Finding 3 frames out of 60 to link moves was ridiculous but the feeling of accomplishment seeing your character start to glitter was PHAT.
-Also this game defined the Grapple. Tekken 4 has tried to mimmic the system but it still doesnt really feel right. Tobal 2’s grapple felt more like a wrestling game where every move could be countered and the counter could be countered until you had this see saw match of who’s got who. Out of all my friends I was the first to get into it and introduce it everyone and anyone whoever put sometime into the game would tell you that they loved it.
Does anyone have any Combo vids of this game in action, and It would bring tears to my eyes to see a next gen Tobal 3.
El :pleased:
Tobal 2 had the best throw escape system ever and it introduced the JF system, but it’s never been done as well as it was in this game. Epon had like a 10 hit all JF combo or something crazy.
I think the real reason it didn’t catch on was because Tobal 1 sucked. Even if Tobal had seen a stateside release, most would have overlooked it since the first one wasn’t so great.
how come squareenix doesn’t make anything but rpg’s now…that shit is gay! not there rpg’s ain’t goo but shit…
I think it’s because Dream Factory actually made the fighters, Square just published them. I thought I remember reading that Square made Dream Factory rush The Bouncer, taking out all of the background interactivity and other things that would have made it good…so that…it wasn’t…yeah.
Anyway, Dream Factory wasn’t so happy and left the Squaresoft fold. Some of them went on to make the lovely Kakuto Chojin (haha)…
I agree, but I really loved Bushido Blade at first, but after a few rounds, it starts to feel repetetive, I wish they would make a remake with more moves and stuff like that, i would buy it…
Fixed it for you.
Bushido Blade not only doesn’t match up well with other fighting games but it matches up even worse against other samurai based fighting games! Bushido Blade was way to realistic. One hack in the face with that broad sword and that was ur ass! Tobal No.1 & Tobal No.2 were really good fighters even to be 3-D but when Dragonball GT came out almost right after Tobal NO.1 and people realized that not only was it exactly like tobal but it’s so ass and annoying the game kinda just fell off!Since it didn’t have any commercials here in a america people didn’t know wat the game play would be like and they didn’t take a a chance! Squaresoft used the characters from it’s best final fantasy…VII to try and motivate people to buy ehrgiez but not alot of people who are into rpg’s play fighting games so that wasn’t a good idea! Ehrgiez though was a good 3-d fighter and it intoduced things other 3-d fighters didn’t have at the time. like a good quest mode!
Good thread.
I’ll tell you like it’s been stated before about Tobal: It rocked. I’m hella pissed at myself that I
pawned the game days down the road. It was the most creative and innovative FIRST GEN
3D fighter I ever saw. The characters were designed by Akira Toriyama=cool. The Grapple System=
VERY COOL. U.S. not getting Tobal No. 2----NOT COOL.
Ergheiz was fun. Interesting character mix when you’ve got the FFVII universe and Tekken
universe involved. (Ken Mishima AKA: Godhand) And yes, you can find information to see that
he is directly related to Heihachi Mishima.
Bushido Blade’s popularity didn’t fair well at all (with the criticising public that is), because even
though it was also an innovative game, especially for it’s realistic fighting style, everything was
over way too quickly. Not much for VS matches if you ask me. Not when you can effectively
end a match in under 20 seconds each time.

 smart guy!
square should think about puttin cloud in another Fighting game!
this guy knows what he’s talking about, it seems as if square knows how to make a game look good which is why i used to say they should team up with capcom lol even in erghiez they had that infinite floor roll throw
there werent as much depth in tobal 1 but the physics i liked alot, and from what i can remember the graphics WERE good when it came out, especialy liked the fact that when you sweeped someones leg they actually trip up abit instead of totally falling lol
How come Square enix never risks stepping outside of rpg’s anymore. Einhander and all of Squares fighters were pretty good well except form Bushido blade! well bushido blade had potential to be a good game but the characters were terrible and so were the graphics!
…probably it is the focus of the company. Enix produces the same types of games SquareSoft did originally. According to what we have seen so far in the market, the FF makers are putting their attention to the RPG market more because of this. Since they have a bulk of the best known RPG series (Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy) that are still around, I would assume that the aim is to bring these to the forefront.
FF VII is getting so much attention for a game that was conceived nearly a decade ago as SE is doing more with that title than any of its’ past PSX titles. Square did some cool things with the system will again touch fighting…someday.
Highlarious. I almost coughed up my mouthful of lucky charms
