THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN - The Houston Thread - Texas Showdown May 5-7, 2017

Made a post on Facebook but might as well post locally for those that don’t have it. I have a PS3 TE without the JLF in it for trade for ANY stick that will work on the PC and has Sanwa/Semitsu parts. That means 360/PS3/PS2 with converter, as long as it works on the PC. Found out that the PS3 TE’s won’t function if there are Nvidia parts on the computer and I would have to go get some PCI card with an updated USB driver on it, but there aren’t any available slots on my laptop for that.

I feel that, but I gotta say, I live on the southside of town and gas is high as hell. I’m not gonna mind driving out to Monster’s or Planet Zero, but it would be greatly beneficial if there was something closer, and since I’m in Sunnyside, a place near Pearland or Hobby would be a godsend. I’d still be down to go to tournaments at Monster’s or any decently sized Monster’s events really. In fact, I’d be more inclined to go to those types of things if I didn’t have to drive 45 minutes every time I wanted to play offline casuals as well.

Thats what I’m saying though. If their events never interfered with one another, then cool. As long as people don’t have to choose which place they have their weeklies at. Thats why I’m saying he talk to Dre instead of us. Because another place to us is always a good thing.

So, how does Monsters work? Do you pay one fee at the door and just get to play everything. Do I have to bring my own arcade stick. Or does it work like a regular arcade?

Yeah, one fee then you get to play all day. You don’t HAVE to bring your own stick, you can though.

Ok, so I assume they have some sticks there. Is it preferable to bring a stick? Do they have AE, or is that only Planet Zero?

we still don’t know where we can play yet that will allow a group of people. none of us have a big enough place lol

It really doesn’t matter, I never bring my stick cause I only have a PS3 stick. There’s always sticks/extra sticks to use.
Monster’s uses consoles so we won’t have AE until it comes out on DLC in about a week.

Oh ok, thanks for answering my questions I appreciate it, friend. You’ll probably see me around, I’ll be easy to spot though because of the quadruple digit win streaks I’ll have.

What? Isn’t your upstairs room big enough, it looks enough for more than 3 people. Just tell someone to bring an asus and a system or something like that.

lol can’t play at my place, also that’s hella far for raph

Sean the scene here is not that good but will get better, it is an opinion thats it. Madoc can troll me all he wants, I am not a hater. Their r other ppl that see it that way too. Also, even Jan was asked this kind of question & he said–I am paraphrasing but from what i remember “the scene here is expanding which is a good thing but the lack of hunger or the wanting to get better isn’t, basically lazy”—this is coming from a guy that is alot more involved in the scene right now then I’m am, even hosting events, he has even said I’m hard on my scene-- that is part of what I mean when I say this is not Cali type of mindset, dont troll me about Geographical differences-- About MK9 lol i said that b/c no one answered the whole day-- just noticed, yes im guilty i was trolling some – oh my gosh man about me telling that guy about this scene, I am telling him like it is b/c I dont know if he has read the negative PZ threads and if he is looking for good casuals in AE I have been there on a friday or Sat only two players I know were there to play, it sucked not PZ but the attendance sucked so that is why I have not been going there so I am giving him the heads up to go on Thursday–also that person is only going to be available Thur-Monday

Believe me after this, me saying anything about the scene your not going to hear that from I’m me moving forward from this topic—moving along cant wait for AE and also Kensou is working on something and Im interested in seeing what he is developing & how it will work out

nice.

Just bought a new copy of SF4 to mark this occasion, cuz mine got scratched up real bad at midnight… $15 dollars new isn’t bad though.

Also, Jason, driving has never that big an issue with me, but I appreciate you looking out.

OK so now that we’re all cool, calmed and reserved lets talk about improving our area’s competition shall we?

I’m going to make some round about estimates of the number of players we have for each game so we can get these players connected so everyone can level up in each desired game.

SSF4: 25+ give or take including players from PZ and Monsters?

BBCS2: 12 roughly

Marvel3: Roughly the same as SF4 if not more

MK9: 10-12 give or take

T6: 10ish + ?

Mind you this round about estimate is including players that play multiple games.

I’m willing to help out per gathering (so long as I can make it) with BBCS2, MK9, SSF4 as my specialty games and the rest I can help with critique and philosophies on what I believe. I’ll be blunt here and say that, sometimes I may miscommunicate what I want to say and perhaps sound negative but take it with a grain and understand that I mean well because you and everyone else is my comrade. Just a disclaimer…

I suggest everyone maybe should find a rival(s)/partner(s) to level up with outside the normal gatherings to help break down scenarios in the respective games you play to further your game. Not just play and NOT learn from your losses! If you do this, when you hit the bigger gatherings you’ll be able to force the scenario and use your newly discovered findings to the test which in turn will make for good discussion at the end of the day when you guys go get food and what not. This invokes discussion to develop new strategies and get a few of those “Oh I didn’t think you could do that” comments to inspire. For instance just the other night at Monster’s I showed Brad a few neat tricks with Dante in Marvel and in turn a light bulb hit and I’m sure he’s messed with some stuff of his own from just those few things I’ve shown him. Does it make me godly? Nah, it means I spent the time to figure it out for myself to help pass my knowledge to my fellow player who may or may not have known. The spread of information is key to success in and out our area, if we’re not holding healthy discussions then we can’t succeed as a whole.

There was a time way back when, when Jan and myself would constantly do the above stated. This in turn made us as good as we were in Guilty Gear because all we had was him, myself, and Robot at one point in that game. And we were good at what we did in that game not to hop on the soap box and all lol.

DO NOT THINK THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU BEAT X TOP HOUSTON PLAYER OR LOSE TO X TOP HOUSTON PLAYER THAT MAKES YOU BAD OR THE SHIZNIT!
If you constantly lose to someone perhaps they’re playing a better character than you? That means you have to outplay them more than they have to outplay you. And further more if you level your game up, you start doing better against them then it means should anyone from out of town come by and use that character then that means you can hold your own and quite possibly beat them. Alternatively even if you lose consistently, you still have the knowledge of that particular match up and in turn you should do well in the match theoretically. Don’t look down upon yourself if you continuously lose, its all a learning process of course. Alternatively once again, no need to jump up and down either, the player is your comrade not someone from outta state so jump off the soap box.

@Sam: I think you’re a good player homie and as do alot of players in Houston. You gotta get your mental game a bit more rock solid because if you’re going to EVO or any out of state event you’re GOING to get shit talked no matter the game. Its not specific to Marvel take it from me dude I’ve been around alot longer than you and believe me I’m not mistaken. Keep your head on straight and keep running your game, much like everyone else you can improve too. So keep going dude.

I think we’re doing pretty well right now with what we have so far, just gotta keep pushing each other to level up more.

AirbrushKing: I mainly play MvC3 and SSF4 because those were the games of choice at the gatherings I held in Waco. I do play Blaz and TvC as well but I never really found people to play. I’m also looking to jump into SC5 and 3rd Strike when they drop. I’m definitely looking forward to joining a more active scene.

Where did you guys want to play? I’ll see if I can get sam to go.

:frowning:

My phoenix on point team is working surprisingly well…
