Round Vulcan ftmfw. So simple, yet so few games have matched it since on simple virtue of it being fun to use.
Raiden III is good stuff compared to the old days of wearing all the skin off my thumbs in Raiden Trad. The ship is still a slow ass clunker but the hitbox has been reduced(although it might have been the resolution playing with my perception). Pretty much cake once you have the fully powered up weapon of your choice and max homing missiles, but get shot once and you’re in deep shit(like the old ones). 2 players is fun as always, since I just parked it behind Kiken and fed his ship with my blue laser since he knew where to be to avoid bulletsesis. And of course one of my favorite aspects of Raiden series…little to no suicide bullets. Soundtrack was also beastin.
I’m in the mood to pick up Shattered Soldier again now…I never did get the S ending. I could never beat the final boss without losing at least one life…goddam amoeba form always got me if I hadn’t choked before then.
just bumping it up so that more people can get shot.
and yes, I can’t get enough of Axelay. that game was ahead of its time in so many ways. Now I gotta fire up the SNES and shoot it down 16-bit style.
Wind laser was badass but just window dressing…beast the whole game using round vulcan and those big bunker busting missiles of doom. Now I got Shattered Soldier AND Alien Wars on my mind again…my poor thumbs.
I say it’s the hardest. After level one the game is like “FUCK YOU!” and I’m like “I’m sorry huddles into corner.”
If Irem isn’t dead, I hope they release an R-Type Collection one of these days with R-Type, R-Type II, R-Type Leo (arcade ports), beefed up versions of each of those games, a cleaned up R-Type Delta, and R-Type Final. And as a bonus, R-Type DX from the GBC.
And what do you think about Senko No Ronde? I’ve seen match videos for that game and I’m just amazed how it can combine the skill you need to succeed in a shmup, as well as some of the tactics in a fighter.
I haven’t seen senk no ronde before so I’ll wait until I have some info on it. I almost lost my mind when old combat popped up. I haven’t seen that game in forever!!! me and my friend could play that game from sun up to sunset without food or water. Some of the others Even I haven’t seen before, but change air blade sounds pretty interesting. keep it coming.
If you want a competitive shooter, you should try Twinkle Star Sprites.
By the way, Konami is releasing three new shooters for the PSP after the success of Gradius Collection. They will be:
Parodius Collection - Parodius Da, Gokujo Parodius, Jikkyu Oshaberi Parodius, Sexy Parodius, and one secret title
Salamander Collection - Salamander, Life Force, Salamander 2, Xexex, and one secret title
TwinBee Collection- TwinBee, Deta, Na!! TwinBee, TwinBee Yahho!, Pop’n TwinBee, and one secret title
I’m hoping that one of the secret titles is Axelay.
TriZeal is awesome. I’ve the PS2 version and the DC version with the Bandana and CD. The soundtrack rivals that of Axelay, especially the music for the first stage.
You should also check out its prequel, XII Stag. I got it on Ebay for $9.30 shipped.
http://www.gameflaws.com/cavestory/ A shooting game more like Metroid. With multiple endings and weapons that can be leveled up as you progress through the game.
I’m back. I finally got another copy of R-Type Final again, so I’ve been trying to go through it to finish getting the ships. Damn hard, and I STILL haven’t found a single way through that last stage without getting killed. you know, the one with the unending horde of ships that come after you. I’m still working on that, and I’ll get it sooner or later. now I need to get a TV tuner for Christmas. time to record me getting myself shot.
