Itâs a pretty sweet game. Great music and gameplay, a lot like Gradius really.
EDIT: Saw some discussion on Soldner-X 2 on the last page. Picked up the game when it came out, it is really well done. Games like it usually arenât my cup of tea (namely due to the health bar system), but this one is extremely well made. It is relatively easy to complete, but if you want to find everything in the game and if you want to have a halfway decent score, itâs gonna take some time to really dig into it. Well worth the $12.

As we shooter fans know, Dreamcast was one of the last systems to show love to the shooter fans. With the beauty of Online DLC we can now get some shots in on the past. Now it looks as if the past will get shot yet again. Some like myself missed out games like Bangai-o and were not able to get to them, but it may yet become a reality. Keep your fingers crossed my brothers. The Empire Of Ammo may be blessed with more to shoot.

Ikaruga is challenging on any difficulty I think. I didnât play the 360 version but I believe it has multiple continues.
Itâs great that a Contra sequel is out, and Hard Corps is kind of a spinoff series now⌠but it looks ass ugly. Thanks Arc, and your stupid anime fixation.

I got all nostalgic and played Axelay for the SNES. OMG. Was this game ALWAYS this tough? I remember back in the day it used to be my bitch. I barely beat it now. How the times have changedâŚ

I hate to say it but the SNES had the best graphics for shmups. Some of my favorite scenes from shmups on the 16 bit consoles came from SNES. Phalanx and Axelay come to mind. Now Iâm having flashbacks to skipping school on a rainy day to play roms.

same here, i was trying it out at gamestop today with an employee who picked it up and its very solid looking after 15 minutes of play.
Soldner X2 is a really good game but Its not super challenging, its definitley fun as hell for people who dont like shooters and ive gotten quite a few of my friends to start loving shmups by making them try out soldner.
Oh and everyone needs to grab gunmageddon on psn its 17 bucks for the collection and its worth every penny.

IMO
Just going on visuals alone, I say DeathSmiles is vastly superior. I enjoy the hand-drawn sprites and level design of the first game as opposed to the 3D models and rendering used in IIX. In terms of difficulty Iâd say 1 again takes the cake. Not saying IIX is a walk in the park either, but itâll be a while before I can 1CC even half of the first game on Level 3, cause the second half is BRUTAL lol
