I really liked psyvariar, I just suck hardcore at it. I end up wiggling into bullets. otherwise its pretty solid
Same thing here man. I always tried to play it when I was in Japan and Iād creep up beside the bullets. once, some Japanese were standing behind me and trying not to laugh. I just look back and put a goofy grin on my face to let them know it was all cool and they started to chuckle.
-Starhammer-
you shouldve whipped out your big American penis.
whoās laughing now!?
BA-BAM!
so, I was wondering. what pad should I use for my pc for shmups, and by that I mean one that isnt shit. should I just use a converter? Ive heard there can be lag and I dont want to deal with that.
i HIGHLY suggest the Logitech Precision usb gamepad, itāll run you $10 and the d-pad is AMAZING
thanks man, I was eyeballing that one myself. the d-pad doesnt look like a gooey blob.
blob d-pad+gimmicks (rumble, wireless, fans to cool your fatty fat hands)=bad/expensive
Well I use some random brand, lik-sang bought(thuogh you can probably find good ones at NCSX), PS2 pad->PC converter and it works well for fighting games and shmups, I havenāt noticed any lag. But then not that many people seem to like the PS2 pad like I do.
I got a genesis emulator for my dreamcast, Ive been playing MUSHA and Eliminate Down a lot.
I suppose it runs ok, the graphics are for the most part excellent and at full speed, but the sound! ugh! it sounds like someone wiped their ass with the Genesis soundboard. seriously, lesser than gameboy quality.
still, MUSHA is amazing, as is the Thunderforce series.
edit
is it possible to switch the perspective on mame so I can tilt my monitor to the side and play full screen like nature intended?
to answer that, yes. yes it is. youāll also have to re-align your controller as well, but Iāve done it before with my smaller monitors. come to think of it, I might just do it again once I fix the other computer.
-Starhammer-
for mame,do I have to set the controls for each game individually?
I played dodonpachi for the first timeā¦wow, I got a fucking headache
if youāre using a windows mame frontend (like mame32), right click the game in the list and go to properties then display options and thereās a rotation drop down list, tell it which way you want it
if youāre using command line mame, hit tab while in game and go into video options, thereās a rotate option
Well I got the rest of the shooting historica so Iāll be making my choice on who receives a model very soon.
so I dont know if this has been discussed yet and Im far FAR too lazy to read the previous 25 pages but what are youze guysā favorite shmups?
personally Im partial to:
-Raiden (the game that got me addicted to shmupping (that sounds raunchy) back in the day
-Giga Wing (maybe my favorite)
-Soldier Blade (looking back, this was maybe one of the easiest shmups Ive played, but very well crafted none the less)
-Thunderforce IV
-MUSHA
-Radiant Silvergun
Man. I got shafted sort of. My set came with a yellow silver hawk instead of a blue one. So now I need to buy a set of both red and blue hawks from ebay to get my blue hawk. That means Iāll now haveā¦
A yellow hawk, a red hawk, and the Vic Viper Metaroin to give away.
And then Iāll have a spare red hawk that someone can BUY off of me.
^^^ That doesnāt look too bad. And by that I mean wow those enemy designs are major crappage.
Shade (Vic Viper), Scum Gale 88 (yellow Silver Hawk), and Kmasera (red Silver Hawk). You bitches be winners. PM your addresses please. And the offer to buy ($5) a red Silver Hawk is NOT on the table. Scum Gale 88 has claimed it. I think itās the best model out of them all. It doesnāt have a flat jet look like the Vic Vipers and Image Fight ship. Nor does it have a chunky fat boy appearance like the R9 Arrowhead. Instead, itās wide and tall and very sleek looking. And it has four visible guns on it and neat fin thingies on the back that hang down. And it was the most fun to put together.
Speaking of the models, to entice folks like me, Atlus is giving away a special black R9 Arrowhead from Yujin with preorders of R-Type Command. Dope. Guess Iāll be getting my strategy on next week.

I just bought R-Types off of the PSN. For $6 itās a great dealā¦ sort of. I mean I could have just played these for free with MAME and if I took the time to custom firmware my PSP then I could play it on the go. But fuck all that. I want to support Sony so I can get more PS One IMPORT classics.
Anyway. My only experience up until now with the first two R-Types was on the GBC. R-Type DX. Really hard and really really fun. I think that I cheated to win back then lol. But I was young and I really really tried. Playing these perfect Arcade ports is like reliving those days of old exceptā¦
Wow, do these games play fast. My ship moves like crap until I pick up the speed up power up. But everything just moves so fast and without any slowdown. Iām like, āHOLY SHIT WTFā, ya know. Got wankers flying in from everywhere. Like every fucking enemy is a potential kamikaze. And everything looks so clean and pretty (for itās age naturally) that I want to enjoy the sights but I canāt because I have a dozen different enemies and bullets that I need to focus on.
What I see thatās new for me are the stages that were removed from DX in R-Type. I havenāt even beaten stage one of R-Type yet. And whatās new to me in R-Type 2 are the Green and Grey weapons. In DX those were missing as well. The Green one is pretty useless anyway since the Blue and Yellow weapons are so spread out that everything gets bum fucked on screen by them. I havenāt seen the Grey one yet but Iām sure Iāll run into when the time comes. Hear itās some sort of shotgun blast.
And like Final and probably Command as well, R-Types is full of useless trivia that I cherish so deeply. Itās just crazy how much Irem put into the series. Like the whole R series evolution. You can look at crude 3D models of ships that donāt reappear until Final as playable crafts. Thatās really kinda cool. Makes me wish that Final was ported to the PSPā¦ on second thought no. Iād be happier with a new R-Type. One that alternates between you playing as that infected Bydo ship from one ending to kill all humans and the other ship that warps to the 26th Century in another ending to have a word with humanity.
But yeah, pick up R-Types if you like R-Type. Maybe Sony will see this as a sign to release R-Type Delta or other shooters.
Oh and does anyone remember this? http://www.irem.co.jp/e/game/r/index.html
FUCK YES. My Gamestop had better get that fucking thing in or I will go ballistic.
oh man, that first stage is so simple yet devilishly hard! you start off moving sooooooo slooooooow. I deleted it off of my wii in disgust. like, if I had the choice to either fight the final boss in a Cave shooter or the first level in R-type I would choose the Cave boss.
Played the game and loved it specially the music now enjoy.
i really liked R-Type Final. thats the only shooter ive owned since like, life force. dont think i owned any for snesā¦ hmm. i rented some tho. that U.N. Squadron and some other good ones, the ones where u can select alot of different weapons i liked, there was one that was a vertical scroller i think. maybe it was called EDF or something. Parodius series was very fun too.
Not really good enough at the bullet hell ones, but those are pretty.
edit dont think it was EDF im thinking of, that has 8 weapons, the one i thinking of had like 16 or something even more.
