I still can’t beat Ikaruga

Raiden IV Beta testing in Akihabara…
Most likely will be ported to PS2… not that Raiden III was well-received…
He’s not the only one…
I really wish that the R-Type series would come back for the next generation so they could incorporate co-op and versus online play.
I’m going to join the ‘‘He’s not the only one’’ club on that one.
I played Giga Wing 2 on Dreamcast last week. Argh. I had to have had at least 50 continue screens while running through it. :wasted:
It just gets to point where all you can say is, do you really need this much firepower to take out my small ship?
Shooters aren’t really about beating them, it’s about score… in my prime I scored an S++ rank in Chapters 1 and 2, and an S in Chapter 3. I haven’t played Ikaruga in a while though, so it would take me several months of practice to do that again…
For anyone who’s a fan of rail shooters, check out Sin & Punishment for the N64. How this game wasn’t able to make it to America baffles me as it was made for it.
Looks like imma gohead and start collecting JAMMA boards again…that and i need to go cop a DREAMCAST…thanks fellas

I posted this in the video thread already, but figured I’d throw it in here for kicks.
Not shmupping by any stretch, but it shows Kiken does play something other than shooters :bgrin:
He’s controlling Haggar.
In Giga Wing 2, take advantage of just how small the vulnerable part of your ship really is (more or less directly in the center). There’re lots of moments where you think you just NEED to use a shield or bomb to cover yourself, but there’s just no real need to, unless you want to do a major counterattack.
Also, Standard Shielding (or whatever it was called) is better than Homing, as it comes out instantly.
Remember, if you’ve just used a shield, can’t seemingly dodge the following onslaught, then waste a bomb then. You’ll be surprised how far you can make it without losing a single ship.
True. It’s possible to make it all the way to the third stage without getting shot. I’m sure the better players can get further, but I always manage to screw up somewhere by then. A similar trick is possible in mars matrix with that buzzsaw.
Speaking of arcade shooters, try out dimahoo if you haven’t had the chance. that game is about as fast-paced as it gets for a standard shooter. still, a very nice shooter, good visuals, and a decent power up system. it gets hairy, but not too hairy. I still haven’t seen the end of it yet, but I will. Time to go get shot.

Wow, is it even POSSIBLE to beat rRootage or do I just suck massive donkey balls or something? I recently beat level 5A after trying many, many times. But now 6A completely owns me. I usually die at 6A-3.
I’ve gottne about as far as you, but I will get further. there are arcade games worse than that, (progear, Psikyo shooters, Several others ) so I have to do it. Have you tried level 10 before? My ass got handed to me on the first stage. It took it away again on the second and I haven’t seen it since. I haven’t even had a chance to try the other modes yet. I’m determined to make it through the whole thing, but it ain’t even CLOSE to easy.

I did try level 10 out of curiosity, I beat 10A-1 by basically using the bombs as a constant guard. I died shortly after in 10A-2 because I had no more. -.-
I tried all of the other modes, but I only beat level 2 on both Psy and GW mode; they’re just kinda boring. I like Ika mode though, I beat level 4 on that. (In level 5 the bullets move really fast…way faster than the bullets in normal mode level 5, never beat it so far…)
It’s quite right that the same trick is possible in Mars Matrix, but only works once. See, the bomb uses the shield gauge, so uh…you only get one shield technically, and the duration is much much lower.
Of course, Giga Wing in general is ludicrously easy compared to most insane shooters. I can get to the final boss without losing a ship, assuming I don’t mess up (more likely I’ll mess up on the fifth level or so).
well, that’s true if you hold it down until the black hole (I don’t know what else you’d call a move that erases bullets and whites out the screen like an act of God.) However, you can hold it for just a little bit so that you can get out of tight spots. it’s tricky as hell and requires you to be a near-psychic with the button, but it still works to a point. Me? I’d rather stick with good old bullet dodging.

I tried out rRootage. Christ that game is fucking hard. The first level seems to be like level 4 on most other shooters. Good as hell game though, even though it’s limited to a boss rush, so whatever.
Also, try out Mucade and mono. I can’t be arsed to link to them right now, but they shouldn’t be too hard to find. Unique shooters, they are.
I’ll have to try it later. my computer got a nice, fat, hard drive killing virus. back to the old reload for me.

Yall fools think Every Extend and it’s remake/sequel by Q?, Every Extend Extra, counts as shooter?
