The shooter games thread returns! The Empire Of Ammo says, EVERYBODY GETS SHOT!

Okay. Now I’m jealous. I saw some of those superplays, in particular, one for Einhander. that bastard beat the game with ONE man? On HARD??? Fuck. Now I gotta plug it back in and try to beat it.

-Starhammer-

Same here!

HOWEVER. I can see how he survivied. Choosing another ship will be more difficult since you have less options. That Hedgehog covered his top and bottom, the cannon covered the front, the wasp covered the back and foreground. I’m confused on how he beat the last boss so fast though as no matter WHAT I do I can’t beat him that fast. I thought the head was the weakpoint.

Badass site though.

sub post.

I saw that Gradius V 1CC up there and all I have to say is

E-Laser=the pwn. Now I have to beat it for sure.

BANG!! BANG!! BANG!! Get shot niggas!!!

I think I finally figured out the boss part.

looks like he let off with a few hedgehogs just before the boss starts attacking. from the looks of it, the explosions were there at the same time the boss was. that hedgehog can ruin someone fast enough from the outside, but I wonder how much worse it could be on the inside? that’s what I’m guessing anyway. I’ll have to try it sooner or later, but for now I have to work on getting back up to par on the game. That shouldn’t take long.

if any of you haven’t played Truxton ll for the arcade, I suggest going for it. yeah, I know it isn’t a PC shooter, but I don’t care. all shooters get love.

…P.S. go get MAME and find Truxton ll’s ROM. you won’t be sorry, but you will be throwing controllers.

-Starhammer-

Game pissed me the hell off. I never had to save state so much to see the end of a shooter. I won’t even dare play it normally. Oh fuck that.

SHMUP fan question: Which control method do YOU prefer?

Pad?
Keys?
Stick?

I ask because I had the opporutunity to play a shmup in an arcade a year ago and I thought it was AMAZING on a stick. However, recently I borrowed that T5 US Hori Stick and tried to use it on my computer with the godly Smart Joy Dual Plus and I hated it. I found using my PS2 Saturn Pad to be a lot more fun and easier to handle, yet in the arcade that stick felt like butter and I was tearing it up. Could it be the stick or could a pad actually be better? Hmm…

The games on this site fucking own. Much thanks.

for the emulation corwd heres a site that helps you know the progress of shmups emulation and other games

good find. I’ll be checking it out soon. keep it coming people. EVERYBODY GETS SHOT!!!

Shoot 'em ups are my favorite type of game.

However, besides the standard scrolling shooters and run ‘n’ gun game like Gradius, R-Type, Metal Slug, Trizeal, Ikaruga, I really like manic shooters or bullet hells.

I’m talking Donpachi, Dodonpachi, Batsugun, Espgaluda, Mushihime-sama, Progear, Chaos Field, Guwange, Gigawing, Mars Matrix.

The screen is almost entirely filled with bullets 95% of the time; however, the hit box on the ship is confined to a single pixel in the center, allowing players to let bullets graze the ship without being destroyed.

You usually get unlimited continues ala Metal Slug, and it’s cool to see how long you can go without being hit. In a lot of the boss fights, you aren’t actually supposed to kill the boss, but simply stay alive for a certain period of time, at which point the boss is considered defeated.

Unfortunately, these games are usually released only in Japan, so for some of them, you’ll need a modded PS2 if you want to play. Most of the others are on the Dreamcast.

well, after experimenting a few times against Truxton, it seems that speed is what you need to get through that game. and DON"T EVER MISS A POWER-UP!!! If you do, your name is space mud. I don’t save state it, I normally just tap out a few more coins and keep pushing. I haven’t faced the last levels of it yet, so things may change.

as for games at home, I like the pad. I’ve tried using arcade-style sticks at home and ran into the same problem you did. I just didn’t like it. however, go to the arcade and everything’s cool. I have no explanation of why that is either.

Man, when I get to the Japanese websites, I can’t even find the damn download links.

yeah. it takes a bit of hunting to get them. I’ll try to explain it somehow or search for some help. the games are there though, so don’t worry. If it comes down to it, I’ll hunt down the ones you want and send it to you on IM or E-mail.

-Starhammer-

just bumping it for dfoo.

-Starhammer-

*bumping it for probably the final time if I don’t find any new sites to add. Just doing my part to make sure everybody gets shot!!!

Dfoo: I’ll pull some of the downloaded games I have over to this computer and E-mailing you. if that doesn’t work, I’ll try to explain how to reach them on the websites.

-Starhammer-

You may also want to try out the Psyvariar games. They’re pretty good too, plus you can use it to improve your buzzing skills.

For Dfoo and anyone else having trouble getting games from the japanese sites:

Unfortunately, I don’t have an easy method. It’s more or less hunt-and-click, but you can also hover the mouse over a link and read what shows up on the status bar at the bottom of your screen. if you see an extension ending in .exe, .lzh, .zip, that’ll be a game. It gets harder after that when reading the file names, but not impossible. if it really comes down to it, I’ll try to help out by E-mailing games. Of course, I’m not going to have all of them, but I might be able to get the ones you want. Sorry. I’m not going anywhere NEAR any games made by Wild Tangent company. If I want viruses, I’ll go to a whorehouse.

**D-Force: ** There are more psyvariar type games? help a lazy man out by giving me some names? I loved that game when I was in Japan, but It still isn’t here…Yet.

-Starhammer-

There’s Psyvariar 2 for DC, which I already mentioned, plus there’s a few of them on PS2, namely Psyvariar Complete Edition, Medium Unit, and Psyvariar 2: Final Edition.

You’ll find them on Ebay, though they aren’t exactly cheap. Just do a search for Psyvariar and a few of them will pop up.
