The shooter games thread returns! The Empire Of Ammo says, EVERYBODY GETS SHOT!

true. NOTHING plays like a cave shooter though. just adding in the goods that you wanted. I’ve mainly been playing arcade stuff since I haven’t been able to buy anything of late. hopefully, that will change soon. after that I’ll be looking for more than I have been. if you find anything before me, go ahead and post up.

AW YEAH!!! new shit!!!

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps3/image/939277.html I just finished playing this one at a friend’s house. for a download, this thing is great. it’s basically the big brother of geometry wars, with a few more weapons, better powering up of said weapons, and better everything. the difficulty seems to be a little lower than geo wars, but that’s because now you can tell what’s good and what’s bad. the pictures? worthless compared to playing the game itself. if you own a PS3, DOWNLOAD THIS DAMN THING!!! If not, my soul will come to your soul’s house and grind its boots into your couch.

Read through this thread a lil bit. Thought you guys were talking about any and all shooters but all I’ve saw is old-school. In that case, you all should probably check out The Red Star on ps2 if you haven’t already. Shooting, combos, endless bullets and beams filling the entire screen, characters that play totally different, and good co-op fun.

it’s mostly just pure shooters such as r-type or raiden, but it’s open to all types. still, this red star will be examined as well. it sounds like the very thing we want here.

Grabbed Red Star outta the blue about a week after it came out. For 20 bucks, it’s an awesome game. Basically an arcade style beat’em up with shmups styled mini/boss fights, upgradeable weapons and abilities, and two player co-op.

Is Last Hope(DC) any good?

Edit: Anybody know where I can pick up the OST to Lords of Thunder? If it’s really that good I wanna give it a shot.

Grabbed Gradius collection for PSP for 10…good stuff!!!

After looking at Red Star a bit, it finally dawned on me that it’s an old game for the XBox. Nothing new here…

I also picked up The Red Star - definitely a tremendous value for $19.99! The melee combat is sooo satisfying, and the overhead shmup - esque bits get pretty hairy later on. I’m on mission 17 or 18 at the moment, game is getting pretty tough. I don’t like how upgrades are so strictly tied to your performance in each stage, though. Allows for the possibility of being way too underpowered later on in the game if you don’t do well enough (and you can’t replay stages, so you basically get 1 shot at everything).

Other than that complaint, though, I highly recommend this game to everyone.

about the best chances you have of that are either emulators for the TG16/PC Engine, or with luck, finding both the system and the game. other than that, God help you. I don’t have them myself and I’ve been searching.

Starhammer, check your PMs.

Heh.

This thing still on?

I haven’t gotten shot in awhile. Anyone know what’s coming out in the world of shooters. I know there are some PS3 PSN and Xbox Live stuff on the way or already out. Surprised we’re not talking about them.

Been playing more of Gradius V mostly cause of co-op play. Have a few questions. Is ripple effective cause im wondering if it cant really hit bosses. I mostly use direction and laser to help my friend who is kind of new to shooters but enjoys playing. Experimented using freeze, spread bomb and flamethrower and works very well on bosses with max speed added as well. What is the best combo to use or what do you prefer? And are there anymore shooters that are 2 player in the US?

unfortunately I can’t be of any help because I don’t have the game myself. sounds like it’s time for me to get online and get shot…AGAIN!!!

anyone play the GBA port of R-Type 3? How is it compared to the SNES original?

More or less the same game, but due to the screen’s resolution, alot of graphical detail is lost, and the actual space on screen is much smaller.

Also, BUMP.

Been getting that SHMUP-ITCH once again, and I’m going full gear into playing them all, all over again.

I’m also considering picking up my own Shmup Project (which I one day, hope to release as freeware on the net) again.

So on that on, I’m playing;

Thunder Force 4 (greatest game ever)
Batsugun
Change Air Blade
Hyper Duel

So, sup fellow Shmup-men?

the sound is also horrible and it dosent have the cool intro that the snes version has where it zooms out from your fighters engine and out to the outside of the ship. Just stay away from the gba version.

Also, if you haven’t yet, check out ***Zanac X Zanac ***(PSX). What a GREAT game.

All I can tell with Ripple Laser is that it seems effective in taking out multiple normal enemies. Not too sure how good against core bosses.

Speaking of which, I’ve been noticing that the default difficulty setting on the Konami Shoot’em Up collection games on the PSP have it on Easy 3. Is it set like this on the arcade version, cause I’m thinking the arcade might have it on Medium 4.

I gotta make a tier list for the Parodius games.

lol at random Zaku’s and Z’Gok’s in Side Arms.

Great site from some friends at the Shmup forums - http://www.world-of-arcades.net/

Todays recommended Shmup games. BatRider is especially awesome. What a great fucking soundtrack.

Also, I’m really looking forward to playing Cave’s newer releases, Death Smiles, Muchi Muchi Pork, and Mushihime-sama Futari. They all look amazing, especially Death Smiles, which is only Caves’ second horizontal shooter, (with Progear being their first).
