Hottttness…
It’s not that Sony has anti-2D policies, it’s just that 2D shooters only apply to a niche market outside of Japan.
There are plenty of them that appear on the PS2.
Espgaluda
Mushihime-sama
Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou
Ibara
Homura
Sengoku Ace & Sengoku Blade
Strikers 1945 1 & 2
Psyvariar: Complete Edition
Psyvariar 2: Ultimate Final
XII Stag
Shooting Love: TriZeal
Chaos Field
Radilgy Precious
Giga Wing Generations
R-Type Final
Silpheed: The Lost Planet
Gradius V
Contra: Shattered Soldier
Metal Slug 4,5 & Collection
Of all those games, only the last five are available outside of Japan
For the PSP, there’s Gradius Collection, Sengoku Cannon, Twinbee Portable, Salamander Portable, and Parodius Portable, but only GP is available to N. America and Europe.
It’s not just Sony that does this. The decline of the arcade scene in the West is what’s driven 2D shooters into a niche market, but they’re still very popular in Japan where the arcade scene continues to thrive. Of all the shooters released on the Saturn and Dreamcast, only a few saw a release outside of Japan. The most recent would be Ikaruga and Chaos Field on the Gamecube, but they didn’t sell all that well over here because most of the people who would have bought them had already done so via imports.
There’s also Castle Shikigami 2, which was released as a budget title a couple years ago.
Nas continues to bring it to this thread.
by the way, have any of you beaten sexy parodius? that damn game is kicking my ass. it’s like gradius, but it’s somehow even harder. if you lose your power-ups, you just plain fail. without MAME, I don’t see you getting this one done. of course, I’ll have to go back and get myself shot again and again until I get it done.

True, and Gunbird was actually released in N. America under the name of Mobile Light Force, but it was horribly butchered.
The first level of this game is really easy(I don’t think I’ve ever died in it), but as for the rest, you’re just going to have to practice, practice, practice. Don’t let the lighthearted nature fool you:bgrin:
I think there was a Gunbird 1+2 on PS2 that we got as well. Well, it was either PS2 or PS1, can’t remember =/
I don’t think we received a Gunbird 1+2 collection, however Gunbird 2 was released on DC.
To make an addendum, the first Shikigami no Shiro was released in NA under the name of Mobile Light Force 2. Like Gunbird, it also got butchered.
“Your dog will suffer.”
So Mushihimesama Futari (sequel to the 2004 game) has a new version out, 1.5. This one tweaks a bunch of things, as well as adding in ULTRA MODE, which pretty much is what made the first game famous outside of hardcore shooter fans (the true last boss in particular was ridiculous).
The crazy thing with version 1.5 is that they made Ultra mode EVEN HARDER. There are torrents for 2 Ultra Mode videos here (the ones with “1.5” in the torrent name), of special note is the vid of the first stage where the player appears to freak out 10 seconds in, bombs, dies, then runs out of lives right as the stage boss appears. I’m looking forward to the superplays this game is going to produce, they’ll be legendary for years to come.
Heh, heh, heh…I’m still trying to pick up my jaw from the ground from those DDP: Dai Ou Jou superplay vids.
Gunbird 1&2 was released on PS2, but Japan only.
I’d have picked it up, but I already have Gunbird 1 for the Saturn and Gunbird 2 for the Dreamcast.
Tavia and Marion rock in those games.

It’s snowing like a mofo here and I just got done with finals. Didn’t feel like going to work today so now it is time for me to relax and have some fun.
Right now I am playing Radirgy for my DC. Pretty interesting game as it has that anime feel to it. Soundtrack is quite addicting as well.

Check this out guys, I’m possibly gonna be working with NG:DEV.TEAM on a future project (I’ll be providing the some sprite/pixel-work). NG:DEV.TEAM is the people behind the new AES/DC release, Last Hope. http://www.lasthope.ngdevteam.com/
Speaking of which, has anyone played it yet? I’m considering nabbing it soon.
