The shooter games thread returns! The Empire Of Ammo says, EVERYBODY GETS SHOT!

wrong thread

So. Should I buy it?

Shooting games= Shmups…

Don’t worry I made the same mistake too…

Due to suggestions made in this thread, I got hooked on dat crack though…

  1. Stick a copy on a Astro cab.
  2. Put it in a Japanese arcade.
  3. Wait a couple of days.
  4. ???
  5. Profit?

Right now I’m not on it. Don’t know if I will be without seeing a demo. I might have to check this out though.

Finally got on to the final stage of Jamestown after stage 2 giving me so much trouble on Legendary.

Is it me, or does that difficulty curve spike up for that stage, compared to Stage 3 (or even 4).

Bloody hell, Otomedius Excellent was pushed back AGAIN. September 27th this time. Ugh. I thought the point of releasing early was to not compete with all the fall titles! o_o

Not just you. On Legendary and above, Stage 2 is harder than 3 or 4.

Who’s That Flying?! is Steam’s Daily Deal for today, and is just $2.99. I’d personally never heard of this game, but it’s by the same people who did Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess and some of those cool browser games for Adult Swim. Destructoid gave it a 9 and IGN gave it an 8.

I had no idea this game was on Steam. They really need a shmup category, because ā€œActionā€ is just too broad.

I hate the action category on Steam cuz everything seems to fall into it. It’s almost like clicking ā€œall gamesā€.

I know on the iphone it borders on unplayable because of the finger to screen movement ratio. It’s like it’s set to 1:10000 or something nuts.

And it’s braindead easy.

Well the PSP version got great reviews. I played the PC version for about an hour today, and while I can see what you mean about it being easy (it’s no Ikaruga), it was still a hell of a lot of fun.

To clarify, I was playing on my ipod touch, so it left a nasty taste in my mouth from the finger/screen ratio.

The ā€œstoryā€ had me chuckle a few times though.

So I decided to sit down with some R-Type III this weekend…Stage 4 has got to be the most rage-inducing segment of a shooter I’ve played in ages. As if it wasn’t bad enough that you have to perfectly memorize and navigate a hazardous maze, after the mid-boss, guess what? You get to do it all over again…BACKWARDS. AHHHHHHHH kill me now.

Ahhhh. R-Type III. Between you and Leo most will never know of how mean as shit you are.

I wonder why we get a million ports of R-Type 1 and 2 but no one has tackled porting 3 (minus the gba port), Delta, or Leo.

If anyone out there is thinking about trying Gattling Gears, I say grab the demo first. You might like it, you might not. I’m still on the fence about it right now. More to come later.

For the record, there was a port of delta on PSN for a little while. I dont’ know if you can still reach it, but I did manage to grab it back when I first saw it appear. Sometimes, you gotta jump on that ish like a starving animal on a free lunch buffet.

Protip: Delta got prettier, but not easier.

-Starhammer-

^Why only release it for a little while? I… nm.

Not to worry. I did some more checking annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd.,…

BOOMSHAKALAKA!!! You can still get it in the psone imports section on PSN!! :woot: Yes, R-Types is there too. Blast the bydo, one of the most respectable enemy swarms in the hallowed halls of shooter games.

-Starhammer-

I just picked up the original disc release of R-Types myself last week. I have Delta on PSN, but I’m definitely on the lookout for the actual PS1 release.

loves him some R-Type Final

So many damn unlockables in that game that it’s ridiculous.
