Never played a smash game and I have no plan on starting either but how complex are the characters ? As in special moves, nr of attacks etc ?
You just smash buttons and there’s fireballs coming out your ass.
Honestly, smash characters are pretty complicated and a lot of them are radically different. They vary in moves, walk and run speed, jumps, recovery moves, all that stuff as much as any fighting game roster does.
No way that game is balanced at 70 fucking characters. Even if by some miracle it is, there is no way anybody has deep knowledge of every matchup. There would be way too many situations where someone is losing to unfamiliarity instead of skill.
Well apparently lots of SFV player rather play a game they don’t like, then play something they do like.
But I strongly assume that the CPT Money is to much of a tasty fruit to keep up with all the BS this game and this company throws at you.
Smash is really simple to start with. There are only two attack buttons, a normal and special attack.
There are no motions (unless you are using Ryu, Ken, or Terry). You get different attacks by tilting the control stick and pressing the button. The hard part comes in with all the advanced movement the game has by starting out is easy enough.
I kinda get the impression Nintendo doesn’t care all that much. They don’t sponsor any “pro tour” or herald it as a competitive game, right?
I know they have balance patches, but probably to keep people from sending them death threats on twitter lol
There is always one.Just like it was in WoW.
You’re not talking to me but honestly I play it because that’s what people here play and I just like running sets with friends. It might sound like a lie but I’ve actually started enjoying the game because of that.
I still get annoyed when I play and I’ll never stop yelling “that’s bullshit” at the screen but that’s about it.
I also didn’t like SFIV and 90% of my playtime on Steam is just playing with friends.
Thats the power of playing with people you like, even the worst, most shitty and absolutly unbearable game can be fun.
Heck I have a hateboner for World of Tanks and I enjoy playing it with friends from time to time!
(luckly said friends also play Warships and I tend to get them to play that over WoT)
plus you get different attacks depending on if the stick is all the way in one direction or partially.
The more I think about it, smash has a lot of moves tied to just two buttons. If a normal street fighter character has 18 normals, 9 special attacks (3 specials of varying power) and like 3 command normals.
30 moves with 6 buttons
Smash characters have 12 normals, 4 specials.
16 with 2 buttons
SFV can be fun at times, problem is that I can’t really find it enjoyable in the long run.
It’s a game that makes you feel like shit when you lose but at the same time you are like “ok I won…cool, whatevs” when you win.
SF4 I used to have 4+ hour sessions with few mates, good times.
this game is fantastic
I was super curious bout that game. Think I’ll try it.
It’s not. Smash’s balance has been abysmal since the N64 days.
On the other hand, and mind you that I’m not a competitive smash player so this is mostly conjecture, the emphasis on movement and spacing makes things more manageable.
It’s like VS games in the sense that if you sit down and block, you already lost.
Speaking of those, I wonder what they have to say about this. I can only imagine the likes of MvC3 being similar in terms of learning matchups, but I don’t really know how they dealt with that.
good, cause otherwise…
Nah
They really don’t.
Paid off big time when the Smash Pedogate blew up.
As complex as a legit FG.
2 main attack buttons, one for normals, 1 for specials.
Usually 5 specials per character, 1 neutral jab/combo, 4 directional “tilts” which is roughly their mediums and 4 smash attacks, which is roughly their heavy attack equivalent.
Then you have 5 air normals and may or may not have different air specials.
Then you have 4 throws off the same grab animation (Shield + Attack/Grab button)
Shit’s kind of a mess if you think about it, but if you play it, it feels fluid and really intuitive.
@Dayaan should know better since he’s our resident smasher.
Also, what? I always hear from Smashers that Ultimate is pretty damn balanced for a near 100 man roster. Certainly better than Brawl, Melee, and 4.
To be frank that’s a shit take. Most people aren’t going to sniff CPT money and after 4 and half years I have no trouble getting games. So people, that have no chance at money are playing the game.
